Are there any similar euphemisms in your own language?
Feel free to share them down below! 💛
You're my favorite Mandarin Teacher, Grace! 😍😘🤧💜
@@edreeyannaprestinorcino4439 My pleasure! :D
You sent me your WhatsApp number please I want to come to your country you help me please I am from Pakistan
Thanks a lot for your sharing. I have learned so much from your channel. Keep it up please❤❤
Hello from Mexico😊👋
Such a professional attitude while talking about subjects most Chinese youtube channels don't teach us about. Important for all learners to know these things!
This is the kind of stuff you can't get from a textbook.
books are for old people. her channel is a living book. it even replied us !
The aunt example is really interesting cause in English, there's a similar euphemism. It's more of a joke, but if a girl were on her period you could say her great aunt Flo came to visit (since Flo sounds like flow, i.e. menstrual flow)
It's do sweet that our Guo laoshi goes as far as to write subtitles in both traditional and simplified Chinese
I'm glad your channel appeared in my recommendations. it's a true hidden gem. Keep going! 加油~
Ah yes..Add oil. (This is a joke I already know it means to keep going)
Really interesting content.. gives the sense of the language,
This is great stuff! You don't find this in a regular dictionary. Thank you!! 😁👍
Great to see Taiwanese creators doing Mandarin content!
That was really helpful to have seen this video a few weeks back because I'm watching The King of Romance right now and all this 炒飯 talk was crazy.
Coccinelle 😂😂
Thank you for your video! I only started learning Chinese a few months ago and your videos make it much easier for me 🙏😊♥️ 谢谢你
Svitlana Sheludiakova I’m glad the videos are helpful for you! You’re welcome!
About die/death/epic fail, a joking way to say is 凉了(liang2 le) literally means "(body) cold already".
Grace
Grace
No idea why but I am completely fluent in Chinese - in fact, I am Chinese.. but I still watched all her videos~ they’re so interesting for some reason even though I already know everything 😂
Literally the best educational chinese channel! Among all the intricate details you always incorporate in your videos, I love being able to see how the characters look like in their traditional form even though I'mlearning the simplified version. Thank you for the quality content you make ❤❤❤ 加油!
I love all these types of lessons - really useful, thank you Grace 😊
You make it so easy and helpful. Thanks!
You are amazing!
Best channel to learn Chinese! I have just started to learn this amazing language and your channel is soooooo helpful

Thank you! This was very useful!
Wow! !! really interesting. I really didn`t know yellow colour uses in that way of saying. Thank u Grace.
Lol, i have so much fun learning from your channel. And to this video, your content and cinematography is so well- developed!
I have only started to watch your videos recently to improve my Chinese. They are really useful and helpful. Thank you, Grace, for the wonderful videos and keep up the good work!
another interesting euphemism I learned in Taipei is that 吃豆腐 (chi dou fu : eat tofu) can mean sexually harassing a woman. Don't want to mess that one up 😳
I love the inclusion of linguistic realities.
Grace goes beyond recycling basics.
And this presentation was tastefully done, not pandering clickbait.
We use the same expression in Korea.
When I can't speak bluntly
So happy to see the 注音!! Thanks for another great video. It would be awesome if you did a video all in Chinese sometimes too ^^
Hi Christina! Thanks!
I've made a video all in Chinese, here: czcams.com/video/LOCJn0ZRrRM/video.html
Feel free to check it out! ;)
Very good
God las month you had 10.000 subs and now you over 30 😱 girl you are hitting it! Congrat you deserved it and more...

Already wrote you on IG but I need to say again that this video is so informative and interesting!!! I hope I can learn more of these once I'm in Taiwan. ☺️
Thank you Jan! You can definitely learn more when you come to Taiwan ;)
Wow this is some solid content! 👍👍👍
Really helpful good content
I have learnt a lot
I really like this
Oh i got one! When we go hiking in Taiwan, it's common to hear someone announce there's gold (黃金) on the trail when they see dog poop!
I'm taking the TOCFL in January, so your channel has been really helpful and a more relaxing way to study 😄
Good luck with your exam!
I think these skits are the best parts of these lessons XD
Or something like that, it was pretty funny seeing 那個 in action and realizing what was happening at the start of your video 哈哈哈
Yay! glad that you can understand it now :D
Alex! ;)
Because of light novels, quite familiar with cooking rice
Thank you Grace you are very teacher 💚❤💜💛
Thank you Aynaz! You always come to watch my videos as soon as I upload them!

Great topic, all the examples are highly useful and frequently heard. Very smooth explanation;-)
Just an idea for a future topic could be explaining a popular song.
2 songs I used to listen to over and over are below
In Spanish we have lots of sayings involving Chinese people or China.
For instance:
1. Esto es un cuento chino (lit. This is a Chinese fairytale). Used when something is hard to believe.
2. Me suena a chino (lit. This sounds like Chinese to me). When we can't understand what other people are saying because the topic is very complicated.
3. Esto es trabajo de chinos (lit. This is a Chinese people work). It is used when something (usually artistic or handicrafted) is very elaborate or has lots of details.
In Spain , people say Chiste Verde @_@ right?
@@moonnight0531 Yes, exactly! And we say 'viejo verde' to refer to an old man that has sexual interest in young girls (not a pedophile).
@@moonnight0531 True! And when you are late we say: a buenas horas mangas verdes!
woooah what ice cream is that in the beginning, looks so good 😋
🤣🤣🤣🤣why dude!
Hahaha that's milk ice cream lol
Fantastic very beautiful
Yellow as a euphemism is similar to blue in English but blue is a little old fashioned
Your English pronunciation improves through your videos, you do good content and your super cute. I'll sub for my learning
Thanks for another lesson! In a future lesson, could you discuss that 雪花飄飄 北風蕭蕭 song?😀
Thank you, the content is awesome! Could you speak more Chinese? Maybe explain in Chinese with English subtitles
Could you do a lesson on 有没有 VS 是不是?
I wonder what my sister thought of me when i was watching this video lol
Im only a begginer, but 谢谢老师!
You're breathtaking!! 😎
Awesomes lessons!!
{... What would I do without this content! 💖
Thanks for this video! This will help in situations where I would have directly translated the saying without realizing it.. now time to watch it a few times so I can remember all of it.
happy to see 注音符號. I dont know pin yin
Interesting enough number four on your list is euphemism for death
In the japanese culture number four is considered as a bad omen for death as number four and death have the same pronunciation
In some hospitals and hotels they even skip room (4)
Peter Stebbins 😂😂
I think this video is 惊艳
the shirt describes her so well ^^
As a native speaker I just don''t realize how many of 那个 or metaphors I use just because it's a sensitive topic, one thing came at the top of my head was when Chinese want to refer to some serious sickness like cancer 癌症 people tend to just say 那个 and you really have to udnerstand the content to be able to understand what 那个was referring to.
We are doing videos with Chinese and English subtitle and would love to get some support =) Thank you and good luck to all you Chinese learners.
I teach English on the mainland of China and I asked my students about chaofan as I saw this a few months ago on another video( I teach adults) and they had no idea what I was talking about so I guess chaofan only means to have sex in Taiwan. Now it’s a common joke in my class. Everytime I want to say have sex I say Chaofan. Always gets a laugh. I guess you could have also mentions eating someone’s Toufu and little brother and little sister.
Many phrases are specific only to Taiwan only or mainland China only, especially for informal slangs.
Just like for "video", she said "yingpian", while in China it's "shipin".
We also says 「做那種事 zhuo na zhong shi」(lit. do that kind of things) to refer to having intercourse 😂😂
Do you have a pdf of these statements?
3:10 IJBOLLLLLL your examples are so funny im happy to learn from you sjdjskkdkdkf
Oh snap! Like in the movie Sixth Sense when the protagonist's wife says "Why did you leave us?" and the protagonist is like "Leave? What? Am I dead?"
does anyone know the title of that movie? 05:00
I too am curious since it looked very familiar to me
Very useful :)
I laughed so hard at 炒饭 😂. 3:14 : 好可爱 :p
Why fried rice btw?^^
Haha Thanks Tronix!
Actually I don't know its origin, I'll have to look it up :P
@@GraceMandarinChinese Oh ok ^^
In Russian, yellow is used to refer to the gutter press.
Oh! So it’s a bit similar to Chinese 😳
Me: But you said you weren't angry!
Now I will understand everything my Chinese friends say . I will not tell them🤣
Great video as always! Very useful!
May I ask, at 2:16 , why do you use "結果" to say "but" ?
If I remember correctly, "結果" means "result" right?
Thanks!
结果 also means the outcome of something!so the outcome of the period is that she cant attend the game!
@@nickylam-hong6845 ooh i see now! Thanks a lot for explaining ☺️
Could it be like ‘turns out’?
I really confuse the sounds j,q,x and c,z,s. I saw the video you talk on this but still not understand. Could you make another video talking specifically. Thank a great deal. From Vietnam.
Ya. I tried a lot of times that way. it is just different from the vowels but the consonants are the same. They are quite similar. Whether Vietnamese and Chinese have many common points in pronunciation.
What about the word 給? There’s this drama character who said 給我啊 in an 18+ context, so the meaning is obvious. But is it a commonly used expression or does it sound odd?
in Italy "yellow" is related to investigation novels ahahahahah
ahhh italiano che aprende Cinese??????
diventiamo amiciiii
In the USA it is a racist anti-East Asian term.
Almost all ways are same except number 5,, by the way I am from south east asian.
It is located in a islands country. Thanks in advance.
Teacher grace is my crush 🥰🥰🥰
Anothrr euphemism in english for someone dying is saying they "passed away"
what is this alien language above in chinese characteres? hahahaha but the video is very good thanks for share it with us
Really interesting content, can I add your we chat😍😍?
