- FYI: Members of the Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society are also eligible to show plants in the CACSS show. Welcome Tucson cactus friends!
The 2024 CACSS & DBG Annual Show and (mini) Sale is just around the corner! In this video, one of the master growers from the CACSS, Cliff, shows us some easy tips and tricks to prepare your plant for a cactus and succulent show - some tricks that even surprised me when I first learned about them. If you are thinking about showing your plant for the first time, do not hesitate and do not feel intimidated. Remember the most important tip is to have a ton of fun.
This year's CACSS & DBG Annual Show is open for public viewing on May 17-19 at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ. Even more fun than attending the show is to participate in the show! All CACSS members are eligible to show your favorite plants (please see the link to the show rules & guidelines below). If you're not a CACSS member today, it is not too late to join and show your favorite plants!
To register as an exhibitor to the show:
1. Register at the club meeting on April 28
2. Register when you drop off your plants on May 15th at the DBG
3. If #1 or #2 above do not work for you, please contact the CACSS here: centralarizonacactus.org/cont...

Cliff is the Bob Ross of Cactus 🌵 ❤ (especially his voice, so calming)
I could watch videos of him for hours a day, and with you are a bonus- all day.
Great tips & video , thanks Jenny!!!
Ha! Your Bob Ross comparison is so on point! I found my mind semi-melting watching him pick off the spent leaves on those lithops. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, Barbie!
I’m only three minutes in but If Cliff isn’t an award winning science teacher he could be
😂😂😂 isn't he great?? He has won so many first place plants in these shows, it's incredible
This was fun. Cactus showers are ruthless!
We need a "Best In Show" movie for cactus shows LOLOL

Cliff is the best! His enthusiasm lifts all spirits. I'm so glad you liked this video, it's all thanks to Dan and Cliff for making it happen. See you at the show Nancy!
@@cookiescacti Is this video being advertised on CACSS Facebook page or somewhere? I saw it because I follow you but it should be widely viewed by members.
Excellent episode, Jenny!
Thank you, Terri! This was a fun one to make!
Great video and interaction with Cliff!
Thank you, Terry! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! It was a fun one to make ☺️
Gheez- such amazing plants, and what great advise! I will be mentally following those guidelines as I prepare my plants for the show and sale here in Houston in the fall. Thank you 😊
Right?? Universal tips and tricks for all cactus and succulent shows! Someday I'd love to attend the Houston show and all the various shows around the country. Someday...
Omg when Cliff use the tweezer to the lithops,
I was like
“NOOOOOOO~~ please be careful, you gonna stab the body 😭😭😭🤣”
Ha! It's so funny reading your comment now after having posted the latest part 2 video with Cliff where he mentions that he has accidentally torn off the actual plants before.... LOL!
Thanks for sharing, great lesson. I just started collection cacti and in in love.
Welcome the cactus obsession! It is a bottomless rabbit hole! I'm glad you found Cliff's tips & tricks helpful!
Lots of interesting tips. Thank you.
It was such a fun one to make. I'm glad you enjoyed it ☺️

Awwwww I'm so glad you liked this one. I had a blast making it 💚🙏
Love this video, so informative! X
I'm so glad you find Cliff's tips and tricks helpful! 💚🙏
Cliff is amazing!! This video was super informative. I wish so badly that there was an active Cactus and Succulent Society chapter near me. Central Arizona, do y’all accept virtual members??!! Haha
Ha! I wonder if they accept virtual members?? Someday if the meetings could be on video and broadcasted over Zoom perhaps virtual members can be a thing....
If that was ever an option, I would be in! It would be such a treat to soak up all the knowledge and expertise that gets passed around at the meetings.
Anyway, love this video 😍😬. I also dream to join cactus contest in my area.😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. Cliff is so fun to be around, especially when he's talking about plants. I hope you join your local cactus club and have a ton of fun participating in the activities!
Hello Jenny, im ready to become a member, do u have a links you can share or any further info I should know???
Woohooooo!! I included all the links in the video description. Btw, there's a meeting tomorrow (Sunday, 4/28, 2-4pm). Al from Botanic Wonders is speaking.
You rock! Thank you!
I DID IT!!!🎉
@@DesertsTreasureAZ YAYYYYYYY!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Welcome to the CACSS!!!
But are yall fertilizing them...
I don't know if Cliff uses fertilizer. I have another video of an open garden event at Cliff's home and I capture a still picture of a piece of paper where Cliff shares his care instructions. I don't remember if he mentions fertilizer. Here's a link to that video: czcams.com/video/QcK399wnAMU/video.htmlsi=LcgBHCU5m_RorQzE
Excellent video, but you completely lost me when the discussion moved to writing on the plant.
😂😂😂 definitely optional. I personally prefer the look of imperfections on plants, so it's probably not something I would do myself but.... Still good to know!
