- Edited reaction to The Golden Girls (1985) - S2:E5 - Isn't It Romantic | Canadian Reaction | TV Commentary.
We are back with another THE GOLDEN GIRLS REACTION. Today, we are watching Isn't It Romantic. In this episode, Dorothy's friend Jean comes for a visit after the loss of her partner. We find out early on that Jean is gay. Unsure of how her roommates will handle this information, Dorothy and Jean decide to keep this information a secret. During her visit, however, Jean develops feelings for our Rose, which leads to some funny conversations.
This was a great episode! I hope you enjoy my reaction to it!
The Golden Girls is an amazing AMERICAN SITCOM that follows four older ladies living in a house together and their shenanigans.
This is not a substitute for the original material. In Canada, you can enjoy the tv show on Disney+.

It's still amazing how GG managed to tackle some of these themes at that time and not just pass the censorship but be received positively by the audience. This show was unique on so many levels, completely hilarious but at the same time groundbreaking with the themes they brought to the screen with amazing dignity and sensibility.
I loved this episode so much. Eversince I came out as gay when I was a kid, I always wished my mother would have had the same response as Sophia, and was always sad that she didn't. Even before she died, she still couldn't accept me, but I learned that it was a battle I'd never win.
Also funny thing to note, Blache's whole scene about finding out Gene is a Lesbian is actually Rue McClanahan's (Blache's actress) favorite scene out of the entire GG series.
I've had the same experience....hugs
I love Sophia's reaction. Very much a 'so what? nothing needs to change' reaction. I miss the days of agree to disagree and move on. Sorry you had that experience. I'm more of the mind of 'Sure it conflicts with my beliefs but you're still a person, we don't agree of everything and that's fine. I still like you just as much I did before I found out.'
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Sending you tons of love and hugs ❤️💛🏳️🌈
Sending you love as well ❤️🫂🏳️🌈
I love The Golden Girls! They were never afraid of taking on big issues with fun class and dignity. ❤
Here again, the Golden Girls tackled an important subject with class and dignity. For many homosexuals there is the difficulty that comes with falling in love with a straight person. It can be very painful for them. To be treated with respect and decency, as Rose did here, was a beautiful thing to see and really should be the example for emulation in actual life. Sadly, too often in life some people react very badly and that causes a lot more pain and shame. This story was brilliantly done.
I don't know why this comment made me emotional. This was indeed a great way to tackle this subject. Thank you for your comment 💛
Lebanese / Lesbian is again one of those GG moments that is a fan favorite!
Hilarious joke!
You are totally right, a parents love for their child should be unconditional.
Not Lebanese, Blanche! Epic!! 😂😂😂
The GG embraced the LGBTQ+ community in many episodes. My personal favorite is a couple of episodes that involved a specific male character (no spoileralert, no worries)...Enjoy!
I can't wait to get to it! Thanks for watching and commenting! 💛
GG is my favorite comedy of all time and so glad you’re reacting to the series! It was ahead of its time in so many ways. I just came across the channel and literally binged the reactions for S1-2 over the weekend! Can’t wait to watch more! ❤️😊
Yay! That makes me so happy! Welcome to the family 💛
love this reaction to a classic great episode of a classic great show! liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much for subscribing! Welcome to the family ❤️💛
This one episode goes on my top 10 favorites of the series for sure. I had a lot of it memorized. I like that they tackled the topic of a gay person having a crush on a straight person ,and the straight person being understanding about it. This happens a lot in real life. Unfortunately the ending doesn't always ring true though. 😢
I just became a a subscriber to your channel and I must say; I really enjoyed your reaction. Also your commentary at the end explaining the episode was very insightful and you did in a very graceful way. I truly enjoyed it. Happy Sunday
Thank you so much and welcome the family! 💛
One of my absolutely favorite episodes! The Lebanese/lesbian took me out the first time I watched it 😂😂😂
That line was hilarious!! 😂
This is my favorite episode of the season and the first episode to tackle LGBT issues so well for it's time. This episode won the Emmy for the season if memory serves, specifically I think for Betty White who played Rose. She was a treasure through and through. This is one of the episodes I like to use as an introduction episode for the entire series and I think you can see why. It's just that good.
What is your favorite joke from the episode? Mine is one I have saved as a GIF which is Blanche saying "Lesbian... Lesbian... LESBIAN..." that's some pure comedy gold right there.
I don't think I knew about the Emmy - thank you so much for telling me! My favourite joke had to be "Lesbian... Lesbian... LESBIAN..."! That scene was EVERYTHING! The whole bedroom scene was FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! 💛
Also … top 3 episodes of all time !!!!!
I've seen this episode several times. It's a classic especially for a homo like me. Super controversial for back then.
