- Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were kids when they met in Cambridge, Massachusetts; they were Hollywood rookies when they won an Oscar for their screenplay for "Good Will Hunting." And now, in their joint production company's first feature, they're back together on screen in "Air," the based-on-true-events story of how Nike created a basketball shoe around a talented but untried NBA rookie, Michael Jordan. Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with Affleck and Damon about their decades-long friendship, and about collaborating on a story of how heaven and earth were moved to sell a sneaker.

I LOOOOVE the idea of actors equity. It's time the team that make movies happen see royalties and what they deserve to.
"Actors equity." What about human equity? These people are pushing a Nike propaganda film and streaming it on Amazon. Literally 2 of the worst companies in history. That movie was paid off the backs of underpaid, overworked foreigners. Starring 2 men whose career was made thanks to a known sex#al predator. This is seriously one of the most blatant examples of tone deaf American culture.
Would you have it both ways so if it tanks they have to pay? Also lower set fee's as well I assume?
Not all movies make money, and most movies are paid for by people who expect a return on investment. This equity sounds like a great idea, and I am not against it, but it's not feasible. The people who spend the millions of dollars for a movie deserve whatever money they get in return, and heck maybe 10% of the net earnings should go to the lead actors of the movie, but giving a percentage to the full and crew is just not possible. You can always have an employee owned entertainment company, but they would have to be the ones who pay the millions to make the movie happen, and good luck on making a profit.
That's how and why United Artist was formed when Chaplin, Pickford and Griffith came together to give more power to the artist than the studio.

Don’t usually see Ben so animated. The movie looks good. Definitely plan to go see it. These guys have not only survived Hollywood, but flourished. Kudos

He’s happy. When he was younger his interviews were always animated. He went through this leading man phase after and got kinda sad. But I’m glad he’s in a good place , with his children, his ex wife, his new wife, his understanding of the industry and alcohol.

Ben is most likely a person that has deep spiritual battles (which is mostly a Blessing), and also, an introvert for the most part. So, when introverts express themselves when accompanied by a good solid friend or loved one, he is more safe and comfortable and can do so with more confidence than usual, and that can look "offish" or awkward...just my 2 cents..lol

Two good men, two nice men, two mentally gifted men, two very good actors, and two good friends for life. I like both and have enjoyed the majority of their movies. We need more Afflecks and Damon's.

And Ben is not doing a lot to make this a better world, considering the bucket loads of money he and his narcissist diva wife have. He is busy flying around in private jets on holiday next to the diva in her real fur coats, he is reportedly buying a 64 million dollar house with the diva.
And it is thanks to Garner, not to Ben, that his children are doing fine despite the divorce from their mother and his alcoholism and him exposing them to the diva.
Affleck is a very good director and when his heart is in it a good actor... Damon is almost always great in his roles... Viola Davis is fantastic....looking forward to this movie.

No one can deny that what these guys did is remarkable. One was 25, the other 27 when they wrote one of the best scripts Hollywood had ever seen. A tour de force, a stroke of genius from two creative minds. Even if they've reached their peak at that moment, you gotta give respect where respect is due.

It's so important to see friendships like this. I think back to people like Jack Benny and George Burns, and later, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, and Bob Newhart and Don Rickles, and Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. These friendships really do stand the test of time and get deeper as the years go on. They give me hope for the future with my own friends.
A marvelous absence of talent, these two. Neither has the slightest sense of what it means to perform in front of an audience.

Relationships arent permanent, no matter how good they are, that's why we have to cherish the moments ❤️
I actually have more friends now after having kids. I become friends with my kids friends parents.
I know right, I think when our kids see us doing passionate things in life, it allows them to seek that for themselves and gives them the space to do so. It is a balancing act of this.

Love these guys. 7 Oscar nominations in 25 years between them, a dozen huge franchises, and wins for Best Screenplay and Best Picture - not even acting - overall. Real, true, committed filmmakers. In it for the long-haul. Look at how both spoke about the movie business a decade ago. Two decades ago. Three decades ago. They saw it coming and stuck with it through all the changes, still focusing on making great stuff together. I wish we had more of that.

There was Cuffey, whose value was estimated at $500 in handwritten estate records still on file with the Chatham County probate court. There were Henry and James, valued at $1,000 apiece. And Robert and Becky, worth $600 as a couple. They were among 24 slaves willed to Benjamin L Cole with instructions to turn them over to his three sons once they reached adulthood.
Evidence that Cole owned slaves drove Affleck to ask PBS and Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates to remove his relative from a TV programme exploring Affleck’s family tree. After Affleck’s actions became public in April, the Argo actor and director identified the relative as Benjamin Cole on Twitter.
A publicist for Affleck offered no further comment. The AP used historical public records to independently confirm that Cole was Affleck’s ancestor.
And the fact that they both worked together with Robin Williams. Their screenplay earned Williams an Oscar for Supporting Actor, they both are really one of Hollywood's best duo
They are AMAZING examples of decent humans: friends for life, good dads, wildly talented and creative...how lucky are we to enjoy the results of such a partnership... can't wait to see this film!!!

Ben and Matt are so real and down to earth, unlike so many Hollywood actors. They’re great family men, great actors and they have such a rare friendship, and such respect for each other. I just saw the movie and it made me feel really good when I left the theater and have been thinking about it all day. Now I've just watched several interviews with them and it just feels so uplifting.
Great to see them both telling stories that matter and reflect and celebrate the human spirit.
Will never forget them in Dogma they played their characters together so well and they were young!! Definatley one of my favorite movies.
Gracie & Burns; Affleck & Damon. Such collaborations are rare as comets, wonderful to watch, Hopefully, never burn out, and make everyone envy those who can endure the personal, familial and professional arguments that fracture or up-end less stable friendships.

Love the ending with 'the love of what you do' coming to the front. These guys are great and the actors' equity production company is brilliant, showing a piece of their hearts. As Ben talks about his work and life and loving what you do, being surrounded by the people you want to be around and actually appreciating it, tells me a lot about his character. It also echoes what I have heard Phil Collins say repeatedly about his career. Luck is big part of it. (yet you must have the goods!) But then loving what you do, shows up.......again, and again, and again. The definition of success.

I love Matt as an actor and person. He is one of the best actors around, and most importantly, his personal life is private. Ben is a great director. He is seen happy and relaxed. I lost my best friend of 35 years to covid last year (he didn't believe it was real) and I really miss my friend.

So happy to see Ben happy, he deserves it, worked hard for it he's had great success but also a hard time with his own struggles. Damon seems so level headed and very smart, great chemistry they've always had. Wishing them continued success, they've made some great films (Gigli and the last Bourne movie aside though 😅)
