I'm from the Philippines. Kakanin can be considered a dessert (panghimagas), but this kind of food is more of a snack than anything. Kakanin is heavier on the stomach (mabigat sa tiyan), not necessarily something you'd eat after a meal. Popular desserts in the Philippines would include leche flan, maja blanca, braso de mercedes, ube halaya, buko pandan, cassava cake, yema, turon, and the famous, but most beloved halo-halo. It'd be nice for you to have Desserts Part 2, Jessica, so that your guests can experience the sweets that Pinoys are truly famous for making and sharing with others. Good luck!

It is made of glutinous rice also wrapped in banana leaves. Locals sometimes put cheese or peanuts in it or just the plain flavor. It is in color white and brown combination. Since Asian culture has a lot of similarities, it's not surprising to find what's common between each culture's dishes but since it's not the exact same, it's really nice to see the elders point out what's different while still being able to appreciate and even enjoy the food. I like how the elders remain respectful while giving their honest opinion of each dish, even if they don't prefer them.
