  • A look at the "Addison Local" as it switches rolling stock in the midst of Addison Illinois nether region. Video has two part; the first shows some switching west of Lombard Road, the remainder is east of Lombard Road, almost to Fairbanks. The sight lines are better in the second half and also, you can view the crazy grade coming down the ridge. The locomotive is an ex-Illinois Central (IC# 3110) that has been rebranded in CN colors. This little GP-40 handles the hill with ease!

    It was almost dark when I got back to my bunker residence. I think I got up there around 2:30, and left near 4:00 PM. The first segment was recorded as soon as I got there. While I was recording, I chatted with a crew member, and he mentioned that they were going to switch the end of the spur. A little while later I changed positions and waited close to an hour four the train to leave an uphill industry. The last segment was recorded after 3:30.

    @ipfeldspar  Před 11 lety

    The crew member also said that they had to wait on three trains coming down the main line. I'll guess that meant they were in no real hurry to move the cars around. There might have also been some consideration as to the industries schedule. The train might have had to wait until the industry was ready.

    I like this one better video of a locomotive hooking and unhooking cars on the road rails.

    She!!! I'm not sure why she did that. It was very chilly but I don't think it was that cold. The other possibilities are that.... She is shy. She was somehow violating contract/safety rules and did not want to be seen. My favorite.... She has my sense of humor and wanted to mess with my head!

      Jaw Tooth The building on the oppsite side of that far stub had a stranded box car for years I think it was scrapped around 2010. Was Combined Rscs a division of Vulcan material? I knew a woman who worked over there when they first built the building circa 1970?

    I wonder why Canadian trains don't have the ditch lights alternating like the US trains? I Think it makes them easier to see coming down the tracks!!

    You might be asking when is a good time to go and record? I cannot give you any definite answers, but I think the local rolls through Elmhurst around 12:30 Additionally, I do not think it runs every day of the week. Before you go, check out Google Earth for where the tracks run, and keep in mind that these tracks are hemmed in by private property. Allow time for parking. AND, while your there, check out the old NIKE missile base.....

    The one in orange is waiting out the minimum time before filing for disability, you don't put in many years doing this when your arms stick out at a 45 degree angle while standing still.

    • @BossSpringsteen69
      @BossSpringsteen69 Před 5 lety

      Because it is a baby SD40-2. A GP40-2. Same engine smaller wheelbase with four axles instead of six.

    how do these overweight people get jobs on the railroad? the one in orange could hardly walk or climb onto the engine.

    • @eat_a_dick_trudeau
      @eat_a_dick_trudeau Před 5 lety

      With all the walking that I see them doing, (and how physical the railroads say the job is), you'd think they would be in better shape.

    • @BossSpringsteen69
      @BossSpringsteen69 Před 5 lety

      Obviously you have never worked this job before. I work with about 400 other Engineers and conductors of all shapes and sizes.I work with people much larger then these two people visible in the video. The Foreman and switchman performed their jobs with economy of physical movements. They are walking on uneven surfaces and using care and caution while walking and mounting and dismounting the equipment. Switching cars is not always a race to complete the work quickly.

    • @BossSpringsteen69
      @BossSpringsteen69 Před 5 lety

      @@eat_a_dick_trudeau They are actually in better shape than you might realize. When you work around this equipment for a length of time your body becomes very efficient with the way it works with the equipment. Every move they made would be the same way i'd move out there.
