  • Late Adrian Sweeney points deny Dublin and bring Donegal back from the brink.
Dublin and Donegal were level nine times in their All Ireland Football Quarter Final clash. The game was played on a hot August day and left the teams and 77,298 supporters breathless and with it all to do again.
Dublin manager Tommy Lyons was unable to attend the game having been hospitalised. In a contest that would swing from end to end, it was Donegal who got the better start. Two goals, one in each half from Dublin forward Ray Cosgrove would not be enough to see off a dogged Donegal.
With only two minutes left Dublin led be two points but Adrian Sweeney popped up twice with points to level the game and force a replay.
The final score was Dublin 2-08 Donegal 0-14.
Highlights shown here are taken from The Monday Game broadcast 5 August 2002.

Has to be one of the best championships ever imo and Sweeney’s point to level it in the end pure bliss 😄
