This is one town Chuck Norris would never set foot into.
Kauwhaka chuck norris got paid by bruce lee to get his ass kicked in a movie written and directed by lee,i would like to have seen lee and norris in a real street fight back then.
Hahaha Norris is a Joke compared to these guys!
sunthunder thor there are several Interviews of Chuck stating that Bruce was easily better.
For real
sunthunder thor lol they sparred in real life and Bruce Lee still beat him, Norris said it himself
A Western pissing contest. One of the best scenes in cinematic history.
I agree. Loved this scene!
Gimme back my mf hat.
A close 2nd to these two & Eli Wallach's final cemetery scene in Good, Bad & Ugly.
You gotta have massive balls to walk into a gunslinger’s room, pack his clothes and then leave. The Chinese guy is the real badass.
Did Clint put him up to that? I always wondered what was going on there.
@@GearheadExplorer85 yeah Clint made him do it, hence why he tells him to take the bag to the train station. Indirectly telling Lee to get the hell outta town.
Oh, God, all this time I seriously thought Mortimer was actually planning to leave! And I did not understand his surprised facial expression, looking at the guy! Now it makes sense!
And the poor guy doesn't even seem to be credited in the movie.
Lol
Lee Van Cleef was the only guy that Eastwood could not intimidate.
Afterburner isn’t lee played by the same guy from the g&b&u angel eyes?
@@AG-lt9ff He's playing the same character archetype, but not the same actual character, just like how El Indio and Ramón Rojo were both played by the same guy in FaFDM and AFoD but arent the same character.
Not the same character. Angel eyes was evil and would have shot Clint in the face instead!
Ahmed Gashlan yes Lee Van Cleef pollster the villain angel eyes in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly year later after he played Colonel Mortimer in For. A Few Dollars More.
@@gezzly72 do y'all think harmonica or c o r t from the quick and the dead is faster than Clint
Van Cleef clearly owned Eastwood here.
If someone shoots your hat off your head and you hear comedic whistles and 'boings', I'd leave town too out of sheer humiliation.
hahaha I agree
:D
I guess Clint lost that one, Van Cleef took him to school right there!
But Clint fired 1st as he said.
Clint would’ve won
Van cleef said in the movie that he was 50, and you don't see much bounty hunters at 50, which means he was extremely efficient.
He was smart and had great accuracy, in this scene he is gathering info, he now knows exactly how far can Clint shoot with accuracy. He now has the upper hand, thanks to his experience.
oberon79 Van Cleef’ s character Colonel Mortimer is retired from the army and became a bounty hunter. He even made the comment about his age when talking with Eastwood he didn’t expect to last too long at his age
Spaghetti-Westerns have implausible marksmanship.
The movie also implies that the reason Clint is inaccurate at long ranges is because of his gun
@awz2142 almost seems like it right? when he looks at it puzzlingly and then reloads
@@awz2142that and Lee vans pistol had that shoulder holster
The moral is that while Eastwood was faster with the gun, Van Cleef was more accurate.
+Gofer
And has a longer gun.
+903IDFOLEY I must have missed the sex scenes in this clip. Good tho
+pete wright ur a moron
Thought i was methodist, my parents must have been misinformed x
pete wright lmao
I like Eastwood's look after van Cleef shots the hat 6 times. He's like, "Ok, you won".
He is like, ok you kicked my ass, Whatever.
Yeah, he's like: "Okay, you proved your point."
I firmly believe this is one of the greatest scenes in movie history.
I'm watching the movie at night while posting this comment, and I firmly agree now :)
I couldn't agree more. Watching Van Cleef pass the baton on to Eastwood in this movie and how they come face to face in this scene is indeed the best scene in movie history.
Yup amazing movie and scene but masterpiece trilogy one of the only few to get better as they went on
Iconic scene, this is!
the "BOING" made it legendary
The luggage guy is like "screw this, I'm out of here".
Doorman/Luggage Guy? Wait, that wasn't a rabbi? Ha.
A rabbi isn't a guy?
I would have done the same tbh
Wow your comment is so funny. You should be a comedian.
A japanese how could have been there? In that time?
Clint Eastwood + Lee Van Cleef = pure dynamite
Today the movies are made with CGI effects and the actors are handsome and put effort into their work but they lack of personality and style.
+Sergio Ramón Rodríguez Cajiga it's nothing worng about CGI.
But why would you use CGI in a western anyway, what for? Gigantic spiders?
+Șefu' cu Caterincă I don't know...maybe Aliens? *cough* Cowboys and Aliens *cough*
+Sergio Ramón Rodríguez Cajiga They had also seen military action. In Le Van Cleef's case: "He had been awarded the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. By virtue of his deployments Van Cleef also qualified for the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal" [Wiki]. Eastwood swam for 5km when a bomber he was flying in ran out of fuel and ditched in the sea.
I agree with you. Today actors do not have charisma like Eastwood or Cleef has. I miss old time actors.
@supersizemewithlove Eastwood is a good director
I like Clint and everything, but Lee Van Cleef was the EPITOME of a badass!
The hat sequence is cinematic gold...
I swear
That look on Van Cleef's face when Eastwood shoots and misses the hat, he is like "....you're mine..."
Really epic scene, waiting for the moment to see his opponents weakness and when he saw his accuracy falter slightly he knew it was his turn.
omg its frickin scent king himself!!!
astroboirap LOL! what are the chances? xD!
Fancy seeing you here!
Lex Ellis
lol crazy coincidence. But Lex mate see the tavern scene or intro scene for Once Upon Time In West, THAT'S badass man. Charles fucking Bronson! Wonder what cologne he would wear though :s defo some power house shizzle
Aramis for sure!
Yeah, it's almost like "so this is the range at which you're weak". Especially after having seen him in the first scene taking out Guy in one shot from that long range.
the boot stomping, simple insult but very effective lol
Colonel boots was shiny. While Manco was wearing suede. 👞😊
I don’t understand why Lee Van Cleef didn’t get more recognition. Sure, no one matches up with Clint, but I feel like Lee’s unique facial expressions and devilish smile would’ve made him more iconic
I love how this movie manage the relationship between this two characters, after this shooting contest Van Cleef shows an upper hand to Eastwood due to experience, he even owned him two times more, but, at the end of the Film Eastwood saves Van Cleef in a way that his experience could not allowed making them equals, one get his vengance, the other one get the money and the bounty.
Manco el fujitovo
The unmentioned hero of all these spaghetti westerns was Enio Morricone, he absolutely makes them.
This was the batman v superman of the day
Hi good to see you Steven Seagal

Except it was good back then.
hey Steven seagal are you the real Steven seagal
This really was the most amazing scene in movie history. Knowing that Van Cleef was going to pass the baton on to Eastwood and this was their first meet in that outcome. Simply awe-some.
Notice how their hats are still always intact, even after having been shot 10 times
didn't you know, they had kevlar in the old west!
that explains it
D.E.B. B far as I know, kevlar would shatter if it took a direct hit - only good against shell fragments.
Nope, in the old West they dipped their leather in a special solution, that we've forgotten the formula to since, that would make leather more resistant to bullets than steel :P
They sure don't make 'em like they used to.
Thats a Quality Hat
I like how both men had honor despite being killers. They both had the oppurtunity to kill the other, but instead stuck to the rules of the "game" they've been playing. No wonder they teamed up and helped each other accomplish their goals.
Van Cleefs soundtrack is just a badass twang.
Eres muy mueno claro
How do Two Men, no words spoken, command a Screen with just pure Awesomeness!
Lee Van Cleef--the best of the bad, a legend. No one in westerns can touch him.The eyes, nose, mouth, height, hat. The man was incredible looking and didn't have to say a word, just move his face. Intelligent and elegantly intense. May I add sexy as hell!
+Marlene Buchhalter And think that, first than this movie, his career had pratically ended. He was involved in a car accident in 1959 in which he lost his left kneecap, had been ill for a while (infact in this movie he seems much older than his 39 years), and Hollywood forgot him. In 1964 he made a living as a painter, and, as he remembered later, was not able to pay the phone bill.
For the role of Col. Mortimer Leone thought first of Henry Fonda, then Lee Marvin, but the two were already working for other productions, so he remembered Van Cleef, that he saw in several western of the '50s and went in search of him. "When I saw him, I was struck by his silhouette, his extraordinary attractiveness. He was perfect for my character".
+Neutron Alchemist He was also beginning to have problems with alcohol abuse at the time that Leone hired him, which he supposedly put behind him after he realized he could have a second chance as an actor. He was a stone-cold badass.
You may!
Thank you. Most women don't see LVC as sexy; the moniker of ugly seems to have stuck over the years from the film in which he was the "bad".
No one was bad like Lee--that body, that face made him a masculine powerhouse. The pansy parade today can't touch him.
Marlene Buchhalter
IKR, I actually feel bad that the tagline for The Big Gundown (great film, great performance) is "Mr. Ugly comes to town!" Come on guys, lol. I guess it can be argued that his "ugliness" is what makes him so attractive. He's different in his sexiness.
great scene, both of these guys are bad ass!
Van Cleef was more experience than Eastwood with a gun clearly!
My daughter loves these both men, she always and always never forget about this movie. My husband show her this movie when she was 5 years old, she loved it so much that she even dresses like a cowgirl 😂
Van Cleef doesn't need any orchestral theme.. a simple 'toing' is enough to express his badassery
after the colonel shoots joes hat I like that little whistle when the hat falls
+Maximus907 W. Joe was Clint's character in A Fistful Of Dollars, the character Clint plays in this is Manco.
James Ling-Vance he's the same guy
Correct. It's called "The Dollars Trilogy": A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good the Bad and The Ugly, in that order. In all 3 movies Clint's character either doesn't give a name, or gives a false one. Hence why he is quite commonly known as "The Man with No Name". Which I think makes it more badass lol
How Colonel Mortimer's eyes were shining at about 1:19... It was clearly a "Don't even dare to mess with me" look. I still can't believe Lee Van Cleef was so much underrated. This man had something elegant, classy and also impressive in his demeanour. And his smirk at the end was utter perfection... To my mind, he definitely stole the show.
Then he was the bad in the next movie
@@todd3382 probably because of Clint. All the ladies loved Clint Givewood the dudes seen more vaginas then a gynecologist.
I love how Mortimer looks back at his arsenal at 0:37 thinking "that little Chinese guy must have balls of steel to know his messing with the wrong guy but still pulls off the *throw out of hotel troll* .... not bad"
LKVideos Good eye. I love spotting these super subtle nuances in these types of films - and there are plenty. Leone was an absolute perfectionist. I doubt he will ever be matched. The opening scene from Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the most meticulously crafted scenes I have ever seen in any film to date.
***** Indeed !
I love the way the bullet ricochets of Clint's hat
Lee Van Cleef, the most handsome and classy looking badass ever. Such a sexy man 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Oh yeah, he makes me weak in the knees. ❤️
This whole move is about "who is more bad ass" between Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. 🤣
Lee still owes Clint a PUNCH IN THE FACE!
No, dude. It was the fact that he took the punch like it was snowflakes that made him so scary. Remember this is the same badass in Fist Full of Dollars - the man with no name - and they build his character up so well to this point... It is an attribute to LVP character's strength that he could brush it off - and then that finish...!
Lee's dead so rip
The slap made Eastwood look like an ass hole in the movie, the scene could have been written without it because both actors deserve respect. It's still just a movie though, rest in peace Lee
The whistling of Clint's hat falling down is enough.
If it makes you feel any better, Lee shoots Eastwood in the neck without warning later on (though it's to help him, strangely enough).
This is one of he best scenes of western movies!
It really is
Yeah, it's like a standoff between two legends!
The expression of the man carrying the bag is the best. FED. UP.
He must've been thinking in his head: "Should I really be doing this? I bet he's staring daggers at me while I'm packing his stuff..."
3:04 The sheer shock on Clint's face lmfao
Two Military Veterans. God Bless the both of them
easily one of the greatest scenes in the history of movie cinema.
That look of "did you really just scuff my boots old man" priceless and that correction slap icing on the cake, I love this movie.
Ultimate badasses.
Van cleef is just so good to watch he’s one of my favourite actors he just brings amazement to every film rip mr van cleef
The Best Western Of All Time
Lee van cleef ultimate
bad ass
their tension and face expression are better than any CGI today
I love Lee Van Cleef's meerschaum pipe in the beginning. I now smoke one similar.
Manliest shooting contest I’ve ever seen
Van cleef is the gunslinger we always want to be
Oh we wish 😁
Clint eastwood and Lee van cleef acting is outstanding and legends
I have been watching a lot Clint Eastwood Western movies and I absolutely love this scene!!
I just finished watching this movie tonight and when this scene played, I immediately recognised it, although I've never watched the movie. Then I remembered, it's the same scene my dad showed me when I was very young, I remember it very clearly and how much my dad must've loved this scene considering how much he replayed. I never thought I'd get into westerns like my parents, but I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. If I had tried to find this scene my dad loved to show me, I wouldn't know where to start looking, back then I had no idea who Clint Eastwood or Lee Van Cleef were but the fact I have now watched the dollars trilogy and remember seeing this scene from when I was so young and watching it with my dad, it made this movie my absolute favourite and this scene my absolute favourite as well.
I don't know, it's mind boggling to me how I watched this scene long ago and still recognised it instantly, the sense of nostalgia I got was insane
Brilliant! Displaying both of their strengths. Showing us that they'd work well together...
One of my all-time favorite scenes with my two all-time favorite actors, Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef.
I am very proud to see both of my favourite artists together
Lee Van Cleef dressed exactly like one of his childhood heroes in two movies “Spaghetti Westerns’ Wyatt Earp. Lee’s costume is a perfect copy of the famous outfit worn by Wyatt Earp in 1881 in Tombstone Arizona. Lee provided his own clothes as did Clint Eastwood. Lee even used a 12 inch barrel Colt like the one used by Marshall Earp. The Hat, Coat, Shirt, Vest, Tie with Tie pin, Boots, Guns every detail is a Tribute to the most famous Lawman-Marshall in American history.
John Wayne often said he used Wyatt Earp as his main character influences. Every time he walked onto the stage set he pretended to be Marshall Earp. Clint Eastwood made his character Harry Callahan “Dirty Harry” after Marshall Wyatt Earp. The biggest influence on many western movies and actors has been the most famous lawman Wyatt Earp
Amazing history
Lee Van Cleef was a GOD among men. Always preferred him over Eastwood.
+Beefcake McGee Ehh, good he was, Eastwood was a bit better
That's your opinion. And you're certainly entitled to it. :)
Fully agree. As they say LVC was a cinematic powerhouse. A much more interesting actor than Eastwood. His voice alone was amazing. The most underrated actor of his time.
+Marlene Buchhalter I wouldn't call him underrated. As I understand it, he was one of the big movie stars of his time.
Being tough s part of his charm, especially to women. He sure beats the pansy parade coming out of Hollywood today. Give me Angel Eyes any day. Dust and all; all man all the time.
As a 26 y/o i saw this movie for the first time
Good stuff
that scene still puts a chill down my arms! Amazing acting and it proves that some scenes can be powerful with very little dialogue muddling it up! Kudos to Mr. Van Cleef here as without him bringing the negative element truly needed for such scenes, these movies would not have struck the chord required for Clint to become as well known as he has! We all like watching Clint, but I wanna be like Lee Van Cleef! Ya know, I wanna be like Lee! ~Primus-Lee Van Cleef
lee van cleef is the best of the two....
Kisses carolyn.
@@paulcooper5748 without question.
Yep. And in more ways than one.
“Hold it! Take it back!”
Love that line!
That haunting music though! Epic! Etched on mind for ages! Tingg tingg tinnnnaaning! Toiinnggg!
I just watched this movie for the first time today, from like midnight to almost 2am, and I gotta say, the sounds of gunshots in this movie are fucking dope 👌.
Original Bad Boys
This scene is simply masterfully done!!
I think we can agree on that they're both incredibly badass
This is the most powerful scene ever.......period!!!
Fact: John Wayne looks like an amateur in comparison to these two men! Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef were born to play the western role; no one else on earth could have played their characters better.
Van Cleef's revolver sounds so badass
No matter how advanced guns become none will have that epic echoing sound like the six shooters
Pure style from two great actors.
One of the greatest scenes of all time.
One badass western. I love this movie. Eastwood is a legend. Same with Van Cleef.
What a great scene...I could act both parts because I've watched this film so much...:)
One of the best scenes from the movie!
I love that expression on Clint's face at 3:02 he looks so unbelievably pissed.
Got to pity the Chinese, here. Really.
Kelly14UK chinese?
these crazy westerners are driving him nuts
I thought he is from Vietnam.
he didn't knock on the door, poor Cantonese.
Chineses were very badly treated at the time
I can't believe how many cool tricks they taught those kids hiding under the steps in under 6 minutes!
I swear these movies are legendary only because of the excellent music and sound design
sizing each other up without one word
One of my favorite scenes ever :)
this is how two alpha males should interact in a modern world
Lee beats Clint, all day long, all day long.
Scorpio Coltman not the same characters genius. I'd say Mortimer and Manco are pretty much equal. Mortimer may even be slightly better.
Scorpio Coltman doesn't matter. It's all about the characters. In good, bad ugly, "Blondie" wins against "Angel Eyes", not Clint against Cleef.
I always got the idea that Clint's character was bit faster, and Van Cleef's character was a bit more accurate.
That was a straight-up classic
Would've been perfect if Eastwoods hat had landed back on his head 🤣
to whoever the "Duck of Judea" was that sent that text. Both Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Clef were veterans. Eastwood served in Korea and Van Clef World War II
These scene will live in my head, rent free
Gotta love the sound design here. Manco’s shots sound powerful, deadly, whereas the Colonel’s sound more quick and precise.
Love the sounds! Amazing movie
I wanna be like Lee Van Cleef. Ya know I wanna be like Lee. Whatever happened to Lee Van Cleef. Whatever happened to Lee?
yurtpoh he is no longer with us. Passed away December 16, 1989, Oxnard, CA some 25 years ago.
yurtpoh Just seen Primus play it live last Sunday... Now I'm wondering whatever happened to Lee Van Cleef?
Epic scene of the entire movie!!
This is the most badass thing ever. What happens when two utter badasses meet?
Lee van Cleef is one cool bad-ass dude, amigo!
Love just how cold and calm they both are, but I would say Cleef won. this one in the way he moves and don't react to being shot at.
Cinema gold
The one man Clint couldn't intimidate
badass and coolness on another level
That is the loudest frikkin’ cricket I have ever heard!
Picks up his hat after its been shot four times and its good as new... no holes. :-O
+alan30189 That's because he's Lee Van Cleef!
teller of truth Edgy
