Pull out any dead plants, and remove any dead leaves.
Be sure to keep a few leaves from the base of the plants! New rosettes will grow there.
After you've pruned your succulent back, you can fill in any gaps with cuttings you took, or others you have on hand. Be sure to let the cuttings dry out and callous over for a few days before placing them in the arrangement.

Add a top dressing to the top of the soil.

Succulents need to be acclimated to a new environment gradually. Move your succulents into an area that is getting more light if it was stretched out, but be sure it doesn't burn.
You can now water your refreshed arrangement like you would any other arrangement!

She's been growing those plants with insufficient sunlight for the past 2 years to make this video. THAT is commitment!
or just live in Seattle, it's not that hard to do that here.

Yaknow.. I thought of the same thing but then I thought about maybe she asked someone for this arrangement to fix it for a video?
I was thinking the same thing. Appreciate the tips. Need to tend to my plants very soon, and will be trying some top dressing finally as well. Thank you!
im new to growing plants in general and when she went straight in w the scissors i gasped
That happens a lot :) Most people don't realize how well succulents do with pruning. It's a little scary the first time, but so much fun after that!
@@Succulentsandsunshine I have been trying to figure out how to fix my succulents for months and I am also terrified of cutting them but I'm so excited to try it and to put my plants in a more well-lit window!
Yeah, me too! She's so ROUGH with them - I've been treating my plants like fussy, colicky babies - shhhhhhh, QUIET!!! lol
@@lucindabooth809 Same here! Just new to succulents, been super extra gentle with the little leaves lol
@@Succulentsandsunshine is there a chance of the cutting not taking root? I have one and super scared to cut it!
DUDE this channel is about to save, and give birth to so many plants
Seriously!!! I'm so confident now
âSucculents need to be outdoors in full sunlightâ

Unless you live in central Arizona
sweetreat30 or Vegas đ„đ„đ„đ„đ„
They can be grown indoors đ You'll just find that almost always you'll need a grow light to prevent stretching. You can see my indoor setup here:

lol i live in Washington State (AKA seattle) and we only get Sun in Summer and its currently fall :(
can you please post what happens to this arrangement after a while? just wondering how the cut succulent grow, thanks
The one thing you didn't touch on that I'd highly recommend is a soil change before replanting everything back into the pot. Especially since you said this arrangement was a few years old, more than likely the plants have used up most of the available nutrients at the surface, and anything down under has a high likelihood of mildew and bacteria growth. That lower level soil does not get much oxygen through root development or sunlight, and since most folks tend to overwater succulents, its definitely going to be true in most of these decorative ceramics that don't have drainage either. Just something to consider for newer gardeners :)
Great suggestion!
Just cruising thru and found your video, I learned a lot, no blah, blah, blah, nice background music. Clear and to the point. I appreciate your video, knowledge and editing skills. New sub now. Thank you, Angel, from The Bay
Thanks, Angel! I'm glad you enjoyed the information!
Oh, that's why my succulents stretch, soooo helpful and I really enjoyed watching the video. Thank you!!!
I love her videos!!!! Simple, straight to the point and we'll explained!!! đđđđđ
So glad they have been helpful for you :)
My love of succulents started just a few months ago when I went crazy buying and now have a plant stand with grow lights to handle all the arrangements! lol One of the first ones I bought was a watch chain. When I got it home and was replanting it, I noticed it was tied up with a rubber band. I removed the band and the whole thing fell apart! Well, that was a surprise. I planted it with a variety of other plants in a pot that looks like a head and the watch chain just gives it that crazy hair day feel...I love it.
I'm a green thumb but new to succulents. I about had a heart attack when you whacked those plants off. I thought they looked amazing to begin with, but the arrangement really did look more beautiful at the end! Thanks for the useful info! New Sub!
Great video. Just a reminder for those of us in the southern hemisphere, you want a north or NE facing window, not south.
My succulents love my north facing window!
I live in the Northern hem and have a North or West window to choose from...though call. maybe that's why my plants are sometimes unhappy.
upside-down world
I was gonna say out in Alberta Canada they won't survive outside but a nice big north facing window our glass back door they thrive
Thank you!
What a coincidence to find your channel this evening!! Iâm visiting my daughter and saw that her aloe vera plant was huge and leggy and in a VERY tiny pot. I went out and bought a bigger pot and proper potting soil for succulents but had no idea what to do about the leggyness. Now I know and I can even take a clipping for myself!! I canât wait for tomorrow!! Thanks for such easy to follow instructions! Iâm subscribing for sure!
Your voice is so calming.
when i lives in my apartment last year some of my succulents stretched so much! this video really helped me learn why they did this!
Loved how you spruced up the older arrangement too!
I absolutely love your blog/website and now your CZcams channel!!! Thank you for sharing so much of your knowledgeâ€ïž
Stretched out succulents because of not enough sunlight - I probably would have guessed the opposite! Thanks.
Very helpful! Looking forward to more of your videos.
Beautiful repair of this cute planter
Very helpful and easy to continue paying attention to!
This is getting saved in my bookmarks, thank you!
I'm repotting my succulents this year, this is a huge help
Thanks for your lovely video and expertise đ€
I thought my apartment got SO much sunlight, and was shocked when my new succulents started stretching less than a week after bringing them home. Moving them to a sunnier window, now I just need to get the gritty mix "soil" and some tools so I can implement your tips and techniques. It looks fun, but you're right: it is intimidating for a newbie!
You've got this. The hard part is just getting started đ
Best succulent channel by farâšđżđthanks for easy listening information đ
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing your experience
This makeover looks beautiful! I'm excited to redo some of my stretched out succulent arrangements.
Thanks for this video. You're giving me courage to manage my overgrown succulent pots.
I'm a newbie,,, love your explanation, detail & clear ,,, thanks heaps!!!
Excellent demo. Thank you!
This was very helpful. I just bought my first succulents the other day. Now I know what to expect.
Such a great, informative video, thank you!!
Thank you SO much for this!! I'm new at caring for succulents and have had this issue with several of my small ones, but you gave me the confidence to attempt these techniques and make the arrangements beautiful.
It turned out lovely. Thank you for all the info.
I have not seen this succulent. Another great informative video. Thanks!
That was fun. You really do that well. I am mesmerized.
You just solved the problem I was having with some of my arrangements, many thanks to this great video! They are incredible plants, and so beautiful in an arrangement.
Thanks for that ^^! Really helpful as I have an arrangement with lots of stretched out ones I wanted to fix, just always scared of cutting them back so much! This gives me hope though, so will try.
Very helpful tips. Well done!
I deal with stretching plants all the time, thanks for the tips.
Thank you for the tips! I have an echeveria that has stretched, so I'm going to do exactly what you suggested.
Just did this to all my daughters pots of succulents, amazing how much better they look
Very presentable video with soft music. Very confident gardner.
Wow, I would never have thought the final result would look that good! You've given me useful tips for how to clean up my succulent arrangement. Now where are my scissors?...
Very helpful video as I need to take care of some stretched plants
Great information! You make it easy to learn.
Fab. Perfect. Thank you - youâve just helped me over a lot of my fears.. now to get chopping!!
Great video! Most of my succulents got stretched out this summer (they sat indoors a little too far from the window). Now I've got them under grow lights and will tackle cleanup in the spring.
Lovely video. Could also add clips where how they look once they grow better. Thanks
Great video and thanks for all the good advice!
I am so happy to find you! This video was so helpful!
Now I know what to do - plus I need to get a grow light! thanks!
And the sad thing is most places you buy these plants will tell you to keep it in a shaded area⊠because they do not require that much or like full sunâŠđ
That rocked! I'm so much less intimidated now and think I can fix my crazy looking stretch out succulents AND I'm going to go find your propagation vidoes next! Thanks.
I just did this to one of my plants before Christmas. I now have 4 new plants from my original plant.
Isn't it so fun?!
Thank you this was a wonderful help!
This was a very enjoyable and informative video. Thanks so much. It is so well made. The presenter is very good
Very helpful vid! I feel braver about snipping off florets or the main 'head' of the plant if needed. Good to hear they will sprout again.
no clue about plats in general but that cut to the watchaine was gansta
Great video. Good tools. Also helped me with my watch crassula issues. Thanks.
These are the best videos on succulents that I've come across. I'm trying to keep one topsy-turvy alive. I've learned a lot here. Thank you. đđšđŠ
I agree. You're completely engaging, and I didn't feel the need to increase playback speed as I normally would! Many thanks.
Good demonstration. Thanks.
I didnât even know this was a thing! Iâm so glad I do now! It answered so many of my questions
That was very complete & useful information! Thx!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very good advice.
Thanks! Liked the video, and definitely learned a lot. Good teachers make a big difference!
Thank you! :)
Watched this a while back and it help me dive and and not be afraid to chop down/rework arrangements.
Thank you for this video, has given me the confidence to cut and replant my stretched out succulentâ€
You're very welcome đ
This video was super helpful for the random reason that I learned the names of my (stretched out) succulents! It's been hard to find the names because my succulents look, well, not healthy, so finding their names is hard because all the pictures in images have been of healthy plants. Thanks! Also I would love to see what it looks like a bit later.
Thanks Cassidy! This video helped me realize that my succulents weren't getting enough sunlight. Now, they are in a sunnier spot in my kitchen, and they are thriving! Your emails and this channel have helped me so much on my succulent journey.
Absolutely one of THE best channels on Y/T! Congratulations. Iâve learned so much from these and I live in AZ!! For everyone that thinks âSucculentsâ are easy to grow, Iâve learned watching this channel, it WAS me screwing up their basic requirements. đ€ŠđŒââïž Challenge accepted! And now with this channel and your excellently edited speaking, videography and communication skills, I might actually have a chance here...!
I learned so much from this video I have beheaded some of my plants because they stretched. This video was very helpful!
I'm new to succulents. This was very informative. Now I understand why parts of mine are dying
I am so glad to have found you! I love succulents but haven't known how to keep my arrangements looking nice. I am going to work on mine right now!!!
So glad the video was helpful!
I hope my succulents survive. Didnât know they needed so much sun! A good tip for the future
Thanks for this! You just prevented me from giving up on a number of my succulents!

Great video!
So helpful!! Thank you :)
Awesome video, thank you!
Very interesting. Had no idea what to do with the scraggly succs
This is great! thank you. I am new to these plants. I do wish at the end you would show the planter 6 months down the road so we could see the progress. Also, you didn't say when you would start watering it or how often.
My first lost succulent was due to beheading but I did save part of it by propagating the leaves and planting the bottom.
Wow...I learned so much from these videos. Thanks.
You are very welcome! Glad they helped
Awesome video! Keep em coming!! As someone who lives up in Saskatchewan Canada, Stretched succulents are just an unavoidable fact of succulent keeping after a long winter in the only south facing window you have. At least there's loads of material for making cuttings in the spring to give to friends for Christmas!
Ask Santa for a grow light.
I wonder if they did ever get a grow light for their succulents at winter. 4 years ago... amazing to think that was 4 cycles of renewal for the plants.
Great informative video! đđ
very nice work
I really liked this lady.......AND she does make a lot of sense, without a schreechy voice.
Thank you :)
Thank you for this video! My succulents did a lot of stretching this winter. I'm going to repot them all and find the perfect window for them. I normally put them outside for the spring and summer, but I'm afraid the deer will eat them.
Thank you, for all good tips đđđđđđđđđ
