  • We visited the popular getaway from Kuala Lumpur: Genting Highlands!
    We left the city for an overnight to visit a theme park in the clouds, a chinese temple and a peek into what the mountains of Malaysia look like.
    We have heard mixed reviews of Genting Highlands. Some describe it as a tourist trap, others highly recommend it to visit with kids!

    Genting Highlands is the go-to place for the locals if they want to cool down or to enjoy the entertainment centre in the clouds. It's also a place to go food hunting if you know your way around. By the way, it looks like everyone had a great time there, which is well.... priceless! 😊

    I imagine the fingerprint entry/exit is also intended to prevent child abductions and runaways. very thoughtful.

      They didn't fingerprint us on the way out, just in! The extra security certainly does not hurt!

    Hi. Genting highlands is 1.8km high from sea level (over a mile high). More often than not you are in or surrounded by the clouds.
    When it rained though, there would be fog which will make visibility super low.. like 1 to 2 metres only. Clouds come from the sky, fog from around the trees. Hope you did have fun.
    Remember, you were in the clouds.

    • @NewFoundLands
      @NewFoundLands  Před 4 měsíci +1

      We remarked on being in the clouds a few times during the day. It was different from fog! I really enjoyed the weather! I wish we had brought rain coats though. It was a very cool experience!

    Malaysia has many hill stations. The oldest is penang hill from 18th century. 1789.
    Others are fraser's Hill, Cameron highlands, maxwell hill.
    Genting is the newer one. Mostly it is not fog you saw, rather clouds

  • @coolriffs.
    @coolriffs. Před 4 měsíci +9

    Yeah it's quite expensive to buy food and other stuff there because of the transport cost to bring them up the highlands is high, so it's understandable..😅😅
    So yeah, bring your own whenever possible 😂😂
    The cable car ride is beautiful if it is a clear day, you can see the wonderful natural scenery there..

      @NewFoundLands  Před 4 měsíci +1

    The outdoor theme park is just too expensive for most locals. It is unfortunate you did not book online which can save you plenty of ringgit. The money can be spent on culinary experience for your family(food)
    Genting was built by a man's vision. He was named Mr lim goh tong. He passed away several years ago. It was built in the 1960s. There were more trees back then in 1970s 1980s. Virgin jungle.
    Mr lim and his friends tracked up the jungle and spent a night at nearby chin swee and decided to build a temple there.
    He successfully obtained a gambling license for a casino. Malaysia's one and only casino.

    You were wondering why the bottled drink is Kickapoo Joy Juice. If you are American, you may know of an American comic strip called Ll’l Abner who was a hillbilly (1934-1977). In the comic strip, Kickapoo was moonshine. You got the Malaysian version
