      Hair is thinner than fishing line plus you can see the line in light pretty easy. I was thinking instead of fishing line, what about dental floss? Floss is super useful for many things. It's a great substitute for thread. Depending on what type you get, I would imagine it would blend in pretty well. I'm not sure if it would reflect light or not though. Might be worth experimenting with if you're gonna put the clouds close to the ceiling. If they'll be hanging away from it though you may see the floss above the clouds where it attaches to the ceiling/light. You'd probably just have to try different things and see whatworks best as far as holding the clouds in place and if it's visible.

I don't know if its just me but it made it seem off, like its close so light and sound would reach you at the same time, but then if you make thunder and lightning at the same time your brain goes "that's not how this works." Bottom line is everyone I showed it too with the thunder effect said it seemed off so I just got rid of it. :)

    Once you get the cloud figured out and attached to the wire frame take it outside hang it very lightly spray it with some spray glue.
    When it dries you can also color spray very very lightly maybe add light blue sunset shades of course silver. You can even creat a sunrise /set apperance.
    Easier to use a fine wire frame using a mini torch solder that together. Glue gun is your friend

    did you consider fishing line instead of the synthetic hair? just wondering if you have already explored the pros and cons of hair vs fishing line.

      I did and I actually bought fishing line, but decided to go with synthetic hair because it was near invisible.

    So the lightning isn't from a light it's from a projector? Dang it! That's the whole reason I watched this vid was to find out how you made the lightning effect. I saw another video on Facebook that was like a fail video or someone trying to imitiate a lightning cloud ceiling.

    • @unmatchedvalue
      @unmatchedvalue  Před 4 lety +3

      I had it hanging up for about a year before i had to take it down for a move. It didn't seem to be dusty when i took it down. I think as long as no one smokes around it, it should be fine.

    have you tried using hairspray to make the fibre fill stiff?

    • @unmatchedvalue
      @unmatchedvalue  Před 5 lety +3

      Wow that's actually a very good idea, I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it. Seems so much easier then using the bottle like i did. I think using hairspray would work great.

    • @sirx3107
      @sirx3107 Před 4 lety +1

      Or even scotch guard...

    • @unmatchedvalue
      @unmatchedvalue  Před 4 lety +2

      I never worked with scotch guard. Might be an option, but like with the hair spray you would want to make sure the clouds are a good distance from the light bulb. Because both hair spray and Scotch guard are pretty flammable.

    • @sirx3107
      @sirx3107 Před 4 lety

      I hope that wasn't a learning process...😏 I would imagine using before operating the lamp would be best.

      @unmatchedvalue  Před 4 lety +1

      @@sirx3107 haha no I've done some dumb things in my life but not this dumb lol. I just don't know if scotch guard if flammable after application like hair spray. I mean should be fine but something that would need to be looked up before application.

  • @joeywright5035

    Use your editor and projector at the same time. Black out(crop around the cloud) then when you play back square won't show

    • @unmatchedvalue
      @unmatchedvalue  Před 4 lety +1

      I actually did that but it still bleeds through. Some people suggested just using a cardboard cut out to fully block the light.

    • @joeywright5035
      @joeywright5035 Před 4 lety +1

      So I looked into it. If you can find a cheap free 3d modeling software (Blender 2.8) you can recreate the cloud and project in real time over your cloud prop. Add lighting elements,then make the background opacity at 0% transparency. Have nothing but the cloud in your color. The rest should be transparent.
