Caramel is cooked sugar. Molasses is a sugar by product. Molasses is used for rum. Popcorn is corn that been heated in oil to bursting, but still corn. Corn is used for whiskey. Love-Child is a whiskey/rum combo. Does this make Cracker Jack's alcohol the Step-Child?

If I were Jessies wife, id ask him nicely to try the same recipe with different yeast strains, the same yeast with different recipes and so on. There's a lifetime of rums, whiskeys and grappas to explore instead of macerating vodka and sugared popcorn. Jessie, please come back! Explore the craft, not the memes.

Jessie needs to make homemade carmel and do a full mash and distillation. I wonder what the difference would be between that and a normal sugar wash? A smokey vodka? Something closer to rum?

    • @rhyannb4316

I've done that and depending on how you make your carmel depends if there is a difference or not I add heavy cream to my carmel so there's a difference there

what it sounds like what you are looking for is buttered rum. it isn't hard to make and omfg its amazing. there are some how to vids out there but simply. you brown a lb of butter and let it cool to around 130 degrees and pour in a quart of spiced rum hit it with a hand mixer for a few minutes and cover it and chuck it in the freezer for 2 hours. the fat from the browned butter will solidify on top. just lift that off and chuck it. the flavor of the browned butter will have been extracted and infused with the run. it will taste just like liquid Werthers candies. if you like it on the sweet side you can add brown sugar.

At first I thought you were going to mash the popcorn, but that got me thinking. I don't know if things have changed, but back in the day movie houses used to throw away giant bags of popcorn, whatever was left at the end of the night. Since Doritoes will mash and ferment I'm sure popcorn will as well.
Now all I can think about is making popcorn whiskey, maybe with a little discarded stale rye bread for spice. Trash to treasure.

I’m totally going to do this - I’m picturing this going down well in a chilly fall night by the fire. It’s a little too hot right now for liquid peanuts and salt - IMO.
Also!!!!! All of these meme spirit videos inspired me: I made Cracklin Oat Bran vodka. I’ve always loved the smell of Cracklin Oat Bran. Even with milk it was always a bit “over crunchy” for me, but the smell is AMAZING. I used a lot of your theory here Jesse and WOW! It did not disappoint. Triple distilled Cracklin Oat Bran vodka is a thing - a real amazing thing. Mic drop. Let me know if I need to ship you some boxes of the cereal to experiment with.

What happened is the same reason Kinder Surprise eggs with proper toys in them can't be sold in the USA: choking hazard, so banned by the food and drug act. There was some debate until the late 1990s whether Cracker Jack toys counted as being "imbedded" but the company decided to err on the side of caution eventually and just shifted over to stickers, temporary tattoos and "pencil toppper" bits of paper, then eventually settled on the QR code thing once smart phones took off.

6:07 Flipping off the machine, are we?! That little bit made my inner easily entertained self laugh. It makes sense to me that original finished product wouldn't have a lot of caramel in it because dilution is what liquids do best. Heating the diluted sugar water, cracker jack liquid, wouldn't concentrate the original caramel flavor to the new spirit. Maybe if the ratio of cracker jack to liquid higher...
