    Fascinating info. I’m a retired electron microscopist, familiar with basic servicing of electronics, so I was sympathetic with your contortionist skills in replacing the two SSDs. Wouldn’t it be great if manufacturers would put the electronics on a pull out, sliding drawer? Unfortunately, like new cars, components are miniaturized and very hard to access.
    Gone is the excitement of climbing up dangerous ladders, crossing perilous catwalks high above the console to tune the pipeworks. So, maybe we should rejoice in the safety of the smaller and “easier” to service organs.
    Always a pleasure to hear your presentations. Much appreciated! 🎼🎼🎼🎹🎹🎹😀😀😀

      Hi JB. Great that you found my video interesting. Yes, I would really hope that the components would be more accessible. But I managed!

    Fortunately, my husband is a techie, so he takes care of any hardware or software problems I have. Glad you are up and running again.

    Terrific. I can certainly empathize with your DYI installation. Very impressive that you selflessly documented this so well. Now have at it.--Thanks for sharing this very informative video.

    I hope it wasn’t too expensive to replace the drives and get it running again. (Or was it still covered under warranty). It was good to post this as it outlines possible computer issues to be aware of if purchasing an out-of-the-box virtual pipe organ against a more traditional digital organ. Also it seems quite a tangle of components. I think the maker should make components such as hard drives easily accessible if replacement or repair is needed.

      @philipaggesen  Před 11 dny

      Hi Stuart. I had to pay around 400€ Euros as the warranty had run out. Annoying but I had no other chance if I wanted the organ to work again. However, now it does!

      @@philipaggesen Hi Philip. I am at an organ Festival in NZ where I played as a developing organist. Quite a strain to come into another city and play 2 different pipe organs with only minimal time to prepare but that is the organ . They are all different but it was good for me. But today they had a talk on digital technology in organs including Haupwerk. The presenter described the computer issues verses digital organs which we switch on and play. I thought about you and he said still the same issues self built Hauptwerk and commercial units like yours Then when he went to play, the Windows software started updating and we all had to wait while he got it going. Marvellous once up and running but imagine if giving a concert or church service and have to wait around. 400/€ seems a lot if money for what is a new organ and sorry you had to pay that. I have never paid anything like that to service my digital organ and that is about 12 years old. Thank you for sharing as potential buyers if not computer savvy should consider this when deciding to buy a Hauptwerk or digital organ.

    Great you are back up and playing again - reminds me of trying to set up flat pack furniture - I don't buy Flat Packs now. Best wishes.

  • @laszloattilamegyaszai6545

    Congratulate! Good job! ;) My HW organ is a home made type, built about my sketch. The computer's parts are separate, in a normal PC case, therefore it's easy to modify or repair any parts of it. My PC is put in the console, when I close the console's back part doors it is invisible! If You would like to make a bigger upgrade, I advice to buy or build a new PC in a separate own case, or buy a PC case and migrate all the computer's parts! ;) Best wishes, Laszlo

      Hi Laszlo. Thank you for your advice. I think I should try to make a disk image of the harddrive so I don't find myself in this situation again!

    Hvilket Hauptwerk orgel vil du anbefale til Hauptwerk 8 Lite, der er begrænset til stereo output, med tre manualer og pedal?

    • @philipaggesen
      @philipaggesen  Před 11 dny +1

      Hej Julius. Det vigtigste umiddelbart når du har Lite udgaven er, at du har en max grænse på 1024 sammenklingende lydfiler på én gang. Det sætter en naturlig grænse for hvor stort et orgel du kan have indlæst. For at svare på dit spørgsmål handler det jo selvfølgelig om hvad du søger efter. Er det blot et kedelig øveorgel du ønsker kan jeg anbefaler Melcher (fra Piotr Grawbowski). Det er super uinspirerende men fantastisk til at øve teknik på. Og så er det gratis. Ellers er Giubiasco et godt gratis barokorgel. Du kan også vælge at downloade demoversioner af store sample sets. De har kun en begrænset mængde af stemmer du kan afprøve, men deri ligger samtidig også en begrænsning på antal stemmer, der kan klinge samtidigt; perfekt til Lite versionen af Hauptwerk!
