- Hi All
Today, 1st September 2020, my beautiful BMW R1250GS TE (Bertha), has been swapped at North Oxford Garages for a BMW R1250GS Adventure Exclusive TE. He is the collection day and a very quick look at the new bike. Of course, there will be more videos incoming as we use her over the coming weeks, months and years.
Was great to meet up with a couple of channel subscribers while picking the bike up too.
As mentioned I am collaborating with Steve from 'A Bike Thing' on the Denali bits and a link to his site is below.
All comments as always welcome and hit that 'thumbs up' button if you like the video and consider subscribing too. You'll be very welcome.
Enjoy (I will)

She’s beautiful Nick, congratulations. Wishing you many happy safe miles together.
Thanks. Here’s hoping. Everywhere I try to go seems to get shut down 😂
Lovely looking machine, I like the colours you've chosen.
There's nothing better than picking up your new bike.
I’m going to miss my old GS though. Just hope this one gives what she did and a bit more 👍🏻
Yay, awesome Nick! You won't regret it - the GSA's the best to live with!
Hope so Richard. Fun incoming 👍🏻
Congratulations, looks beautiful. I pick up my 1250GS Exclusive TE tomorrow, can't wait. First GS as well, why did I wait so long ! Will be trawling your videos on your old bike installations etc.
You’ll love it Mark. I’ve so far not met anyone who isn’t blown over. There’s faster, more comfortable, cheaper, prettier, but few all around ‘better’. Ride safe 👍🏻
Congratulations on your new bike!! I like it with the gold wheels!! 👍 many safe travels 🍀 regards Dennis
Thanks Dennis 👍🏻
Congrats on your purchase. You won't regret it - have fun with "the beast."
Thanks Carsten 👍🏻
Awesome, I am so excited for you and the miles ahead.
Thanks Blake. Me too 👍🏻
Well done Nick, loving it..many happy miles to come..
Here’s hoping. Maybe UK restricted for a while which is a shame but hey ho 👍🏻
Nice bike,amazing colour!
That footage around the bike at home was stunning quality!
Cheers Alex. Good sunlight, an iPhone 11 Pro on a Zhiyun Smooth 4 Gimbal
Nice - was never 100% sure about that colour but having now seen it a bit more it's grown on me! Happy travels.
When people ask me the colour I say the ‘camouflage looking one’ 😂
Congratulations Nick. The 1250 GSA is a thing of beauty and I love mine! 👍👏
Thanks a lot. Ride safe 👍🏻
She looks mint great choice those bling wheels will take some time to keep shiny look forward to seeing the new videos 👍👍
I do fear that Dale 😂
Well played Nick, nice one, the gold wheels look smart, don't think you will regret your new purchase!
Here’s hoping not 👍🏻
Gorgeous motorcycle Nick. The best. The Denali farkles will nicely enhance this beast. Congratulations. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.
Cheers. That’s the next job 👍🏻
Congratulations Nick! Beautiful machine!
I’m looking forward to a few miles before weather sets in 👍🏻
Congratulations !!
Thank you 👍🏻
Well pleased for you Nick 👍
Thanks Kenneth
Always been a fan of the Rally/HP colours though I’m warming to that green and especially with the gold rims👍 Nice bike👌
Cheers Gareth. The HP I think plays to our ‘guy primary colour’ brains. Maybe I should ask the missus for the colour of this one? 😂
Enjoy your new bike, hope you have many safe and happy miles on her. I came the other way just over a year ago GSA to 1250 GS.
I’ve had a few comments like that. Sure you’ve enjoyed both?
Congrats on the new bike. It’s a beauty 👌
Thanks. I think so too 😂👍🏻
Congratulations Nick! She’s a beauty, enjoy!
Thanks. Just wish summer was coming instead of leaving 😂
Plenty of farkle-time until spring....
Great!! that new bike looks awesome!! ride safe!!
Thanks Kim. I’ll try 👍🏻
Good luck with the new bike. Cracking colour scheme. I have the 1200 Triple Black and love it. Just subscribed. Will be following your progress.
Cheers Mark. The 1200 is a great bike. Had one for a short while then upgraded. Glad you’re along 👍🏻
Congrats Nick, beautiful bike. I will be treating myself to one of these great bikes soon. Like the colour, but my personal preferrence is the HP style. Enjoy brother.
Thanks Andrew. The primary colours of the HP are definitely a draw for us males 👍🏻😂
Wow I’m really pleased for you enjoy and ride safe nick I hope we see your tour of Ireland on channel best wishes tony👍
Thanks Tony. Not sure of Ireland as technically they’re applying 14 day quarantine on entry but appears it doesn’t apply if entry from NI so maybe Belfast ferry 😂 whatever we’re going somewhere 👍🏻
Congratulations on the new bike. Even here across the pond when you talked about "farkles" and "refackle" most of us knew what you meant. Enjoy......
Ha ha. Only with motorcycles can you farkle (or do we thing it’s a cycle thing too?) 😂
Absolutely stunning machine and the Bumot luggage compliments the colour scheme and looks awesome...
Cheers Adrian. The Bumot only came on recommendations in these comments. They look and feel great. See how they work soon 👍🏻
Congratulations, Nick.
Thanks Richard 👍🏻
No messing getting a video out. Congratulations on the new bike. I picked up my 1st gs yesterday and I’m looking for some Denali goodies so will check out a bike thing.
Great James. He has the range and advice aplenty. Also for example where the B6 kit is out of stock everywhere he was making them up from the component parts. Mention me. It helps (me). Enjoy the GS. They’re a treat. Ride safe 👍🏻
Beautiful bike you will love it, well done 👍
Thanks Johnny. I hope so 👍🏻
Congratulations on your new GSA. The gold rims on the exclusive are awesome
Just tried to make it slightly more ‘exclusive’ Robert 😂👍🏻
Enjoy and many safe miles she looks beautiful
Thanks Paul. Here’s hoping 🤞🏻👍🏻
Very nice happy for you enjoy your new bike 😀
Thanks Steven 👍🏻
That's beautiful. Love the colour .
Thanks Steve. I like it too 👍🏻
Well the day has finally come, how awesome. The extra bulk is soon appreciated when the weather sets in and you already know the rest.
Enjoy, looking forward to the new adventures. Just over a week till I can get in for my first service and it ain’t a freebie, so you’ve done well.
I’m happy all round with the deal so far as you can be happy being £5k lighter 😂👍🏻 Ride safe
It has to be the only motorcycle on the market where buyers claim that “extra bulk “ is actually a good thing !
@@maxflight777 it’s bulky as are most things in this category, if you like lighter bikes you have other choices but when the weather turns cold having that big tank to hide behind has its benefits.
Very nice, I'm a soft panniers guy so would need to blank off the big gaps in the rack, but I could see myself quite happily thruming along on her.
Hi David. Seems more are opting for soft bags. I think they’re a must for off-road for sure. Mine’s unlikely to get wet 😂😂👍🏻
congrads mate ...enjoy!
Cheers Steven 👍🏻
Congratulations! I am about to pull the trigger on the exact bike. (Don't tell my wife. :-D ) Looking forward to your future vids. Keep up the great work on CZcams.
Thanks Robert. I’m great at ‘justification maths’ for wives if you need help 👍🏻😂
Great looking bike Nick! Got Bumot panniers on my 1200 GSA - brilliant bit of kit! 😀
Thanks. I was ‘influenced’ by my regular viewers on the Bumots. Not having used them in earnest, so far I’m very happy with the ‘feel’ of them 👍🏻
Seriously jealous across the pond in Southern California. Congrats and safe travels!
What I’d give for a few months of Southern Californian weather ahead. Thanks 👍🏻
Nick Hodge The next week is going to be record breaking hot inland from the coast. We’re 6 miles away from the beach in north county San Diego so it won’t be too bad but a mere 5 miles east will be brutal. If you ever make it out this way, holler!
Congratulations! Amazing motorcycle!
Thanks Pete 👍🏻
Congratulations!
Thanks a lot 👍🏻
I picked up the identical bike, including the gold wheels a couple of months ago. It would have been earlier, but as you know, everything was in lockdown.
It is a superb machine I love it to bits, though I had hoped to go on a tour to Romania with it, but that never happened, so I am really confident to local touring, but as I live in North Yorkshire, it is hardly a hardship.
I simply cannot fault it, it is capable of far more than i am.
I decided this time to go for the BMW soft luggage, but haven’t had the chance to use them yet, but I do have the top box - in black, which remains on the bike.
The bike came with the tracker, which is good, but some time ago I tried to take the bike out after not having used it for a while, and the battery was flat - due to the tracker. So now, whenever I put the bike to bed, I always plug in the charger - lesson learned.
Keep the vlogs coming.ride safe
Hi Gareth. Glad you’re enjoying it. I’m not sure about the stealth but my old one you could go online and it sent an email when the battery was low. Presume you still can with the new one, but you’re right, about every month she needed a charge 👍🏻
Gorgeous bike, enjoy👍
Thanks Jeff 👍🏻
Congratulations on picking up your new bike Nick, you won't regret getting the Adventure. Cheers, Andy
Thanks Andy. She’s in the shed as it peeing down. Only managed to get a few bits back on so far 😂
@@nickhodgeUK the black luggage looks so much better; all personal of course :-)
Andrew Tofts indeed, all is ‘in the eye of the beholder’
Very Nice Nick hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine ride safe
Thanks Chris. Here’s hoping 🤞🏻
Awesome! I'll probably keep my 18 rallye for a long time! Enjoy!
That’s a great bike anyhow (so was my GS)
Great bike. I have the same bike when it came out but black wheels. Installed Clearwater lights Dixi and seems you can see a mile ahead. Also installed the ADV Advance Guards and the look of the bike is awesome. Hot days without the middle part is great. Enjoy your new ride.
Thanks Tony. I may check out the guards, I’ve seen those with the removable middles. I’m a warm person so I do worry I may get too hot which is rare in the UK but hoping when this god damn virus is under control to get away to warmer climbs 👍🏻
@@nickhodgeUK they are backorder from Machine Moto but I found mines on the UK at Nippy Norman's. They work great with the middle covers removed.
Stunning nick , enjoy 👌
Thanks Steven 👍🏻
I think you will see a big difference on the wind protection I did tbh and you really notice it on the long runs
Steven
really like the colour, not the usual red white blue, gold wheels set it off nicely, enjoy
Thanks Gary. Been a hard day ‘re-farkling’ her with all I took off the GS. 👍🏻
I recently picked up the same bike. Re running in, I was advised that the key to running in is not to bounce it off the rev limiter but more importantly to ‘overuse’ the gearbox. Go up and down as much as possible so that those tiny excess pieces of metal produced in the manufacturing process of the gearbox, are knocked off and are flushed out at the first service when the oil is changed.
Hi Doug. Hope you’re enjoying it. That was sort of my suggestion. Not overrevving but altering things almost without need to use all things many times. Ride safe 👍🏻
Congratulations, very nice. Will be interested to see how you get on with the seat... I did a 300-mile trip last week on mine and ended up ordering the Sargent Performance Plus seat when I got back!
Exactly the same here, 600 miles over a couple of days a couple of weeks ago, and the Sargent seat order went in as soon as got back! I didn't find the BMW seat too bad, but definitely a couple of pressure points that begin to bother you after a while!
Interesting from both of you. I must admit the bike I tried had the same as my GS. At least I have a recommendation from you both 👍🏻
Congratulations
Thanks Lee 👍🏻
Congrats Nick nothing beats the feeling of picking up a new bike I have done it a few times.
Hi Jack. It was a little frustrating with the tracker issue but I’ve taken her in and out of the shed a few times just to stare 👍🏻
Nick Hodge haha good on you Nick I know that feeling, I just hope you are not like me and in one or two years time you want to change bikes again
@@jackchristodoulou197 Oh fear not, the last one was not quite 2 years old, so this one may only get that far, trying to cram as many in as possible before I'm too old for it
@@nickhodgeUK I feel the same way I am 57 now and changed many bikes, kids are off my hands no debts now so why not keep changing even looking at getting my first Harley
Jack Christodoulou First Harley?? Steady now!! 😂😂
All the best with your new bike Nick, if your riding buddys only have 20ltr tanks you,ll soon get pissed off having to stop with them for fuel I know I do LOL
Most of all Keith it gives me ‘faff’ time to change batteries in GoPros and stuff. They like the videos but not the faff. So far done just over 200 mile which would be rock empty even in the GS, but it says I have 140 miles left. Happy days 👍🏻
She is fabulous congrats,im picking up my 1250rt on friday.
Brilliant Jim. That’s a lovely bike often overlooked. Was looking at a very pretty red one at the dealers and that’s another step on for weather protection. Ride safe 👍🏻
Happy for you Nick! :) Enjoy it! ;)
Thanks Daniel. Praying for the sun Gods. Not just for a first ‘proper’ ride but to get the lights and cameras back on 👍🏻
@@nickhodgeUK I might go for a ride when I get home from wrk 2day :) Not too bad in DK for now
Awesome bike 👍
Thank you 👍🏻
Great looking bike Nick
Thanks Mark 👍🏻
Surprisingly, it's the first Exclusive I see with gold wheels. Not my cup of tea but she is a stunner! The best of luck, will be waiting for the review.
Antonio. Not mine either really but it just makes it a little different to the other ‘exclusives’ 😂
They have one just like this at my local dealer and I nearly jumped at it but I’m such a sucker for the HP colours (with gold rims) that I stayed true to the red white and blue.
TheTripleDubya aka Dubya 07 I love the HP colours too but they’re a bit common around here now although if o was buying a 2021 XR1000 I’d absolutely have HP (or M I think they may call it now) it looks ‘mint’ as the kids would say 👍🏻
Nick Hodge common here too, there is around eight of us with the same bike and only one of the grey bikes ha ha ha !
congrats!
Thanks Becker 👍🏻
Have fun, pick mine up Friday and so so nervous 😬😁
Pino. Hope you have great excitement on the day, love the bike and have many happy travels. Ride safe 👍🏻
I was too, picked mine up a month ago and it didn’t take long to feel quite chuffed with my choice and it’s performance.
Beautiful
Thank you 👍🏻
Congrats. You’ve got me thinking about an upgrade now 🤔
Cheers Dave. Good deals until end of September I think (on trade-in). One my few trips lots seem to be taking advantage, particularly with older 1200s it seems????
Very nice, the gold wheels do look good, Shame about your Ireland trip. i was supposed to go there this May but i've had to postpone it to next year
We’re running out of options Dougie so I think it’s UK and we’re maybe going to do a ‘ride here, stay, plan tomorrow’ type of week. Hopefully when main season is over in Spain they may start to slow with cases and may open. Who knows, but here’s hoping 🤞🏻
Hi Nick, thanks fior the info on the Bumout boxes in your other video - I have been lead to believe that the Bumot left pannier will not take a full face helmet (non-modual) so was looking to see if you have fitted the Givi with the bumot panniers? - I am down sizing from a GSA to a GS and looking at the config options!
Congrats on the new bike and hope you are enjoying her...I do love my GSA!
Hi Alex. Here’s the take. The Bumot panniers will not take a full face helmet (I don’t think any will although my GS’s LH Vario did). I have the Givi top box on currently but in standard fitment you cannot open the Bumot lids when it’s on by a whisker. You have two options. Lift the Bumot latches and tip the top of the pannier of its mount about 10mm and open (bit of a juggle) or get a few 5mm spacers, washers will do and raise the Givi mounting plate up 5mm. This is enough to allow the Bumot to open. So far as my set up with the swapping of the Givi and Bumot top boxes, barring the need for spacers that’s a 15 mi Ute job so not bad at all. If only Bumot did a two-lid box 👍🏻
Very nice congratulations.
Thanks Stephen 👍🏻
Great looking bike. I hope it connects with you like your other bike did.
I think I’m hoping too Chad. Strangest thing I’m waiting to name her until she’s proven 😂
@@nickhodgeUK I would name her probation until she proves herself😄
Nice vid. You’ll love it. Had mine a year and thinks it’s brill. Would be interested to see how you find the extra weight between gs and gsa, especially fully fuelled as I didn’t ride the standard gs.
I’ll give it a while but both on test and down to home I had full fuel but think there’s so much weight low down I have noticed it (so far) 👍🏻
Got the exact same bike in June minus the gold wheels an i love it.
My first BMW, so comparing with a v-strom 650 probably isn't really fair.
That’s an upgrade in most departments for sure. Ride safe 👍🏻
Awesome Nick, stuck in bloody lockdown here in Melbourne Australia and I've been waiting all week to see your new bike. We don't have the TE model here but there's an exclusive at my local dealers (ex demo), just need to get down there when we can test ride again. Congrats mate, enjoy. Nick Down Under.
Cheers mate. You’re coming into spring too so let’s hope it all clears up enough soon. I seen from a Company I used to help out in Scoresby that it’s all a bit rat-shit there again. Stay safe 👍🏻
Actually happy to be in NSW, Comrade Dan is a complete moron. Hope you all get out soon, I love riding down your way.
@@nickhodgeUK Thanks for recommendation on Doncaster BMW, I ordered a brand new GSA Exclusive today. The sales guy (curator of their museum) gave me a great deal, apart from the lack of a test ride due to COVID, but I'm sure it will be great. Cheers Nick S. Melbourne 🏁
The Boomerang Biker brilliant. Well done 👍🏻, selling bikes all over the World 😂
@@TheTripleDubya G'Day mate (just learning the ropes on youtube so not sure of the etiquette, Nick please delete if inappropriate) had my new GSA delivered on the weekend and heading to the Great Alpine Road Loop as soon as restrictions are lifted in Melbourne. Posted my 1st video here and more to follow on the weekend if you're interested... czcams.com/video/hFdmXN4g9HM/video.html
Congratulations Nick absolutely beautiful bike, so where in Ireland did you plan on touring? Ring of Kerry and Ring of Beara is stunning
Thanks. Yes, we were coming into Rosslare, across to Kilkenny, ring of Kerry and then Galway, Donegal, Bushmills (Causeway), Antrim coast and home. Hugging the coast. Shame, another day.
Hello Nick, thanks for all the good tips - you really inspired me to change my old bike (Kawasaki GTR1400) to a brand new BMW GSA. I ordered also my GSA Exclusive (Kalamata), and I also received the new bike in September. My first review is planned on 06/11. I don't know if you hesitated to wait for the 2021-model or not but I decided to take the risk of ordering the model and color that I was sure to like (I quickly ordered one of the latest stock available Kalamata-model in Belgium). I discovered now the new models/colors and I don't regret my choice. I was scared about what would come, what colors, when could I been delivered in these Corona-times, etc .... Anyway, I continue following your channel ... my first impressions of the bike are really amazing - I hope that it will all stay positive in the coming months & years!!
Hi Yves. Glad you have the bike. I’m really happy I got my bike. I love the colour. I didn’t want the HP colours when I bought mine and I’m not keen on black so no regrets not waiting for 2021 bike. I would like the dual feature indicators but hardly rude in dark so headlight not a real thing for me. We’ll See what the next couple of years bring. Ride safe 👍🏻
Very nice
Cheers Paul 👍🏻
Congratulations! I have exactly the same bike...
Thanks Lawrence. Great minds and all that... ride safe 👍🏻
Very good choice Nick.I wish u many many and trouble free kilometers 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇷
Thank you. If only Greece were reachable by land without all our neighbouring countries needing quarantine when we get home 👍🏻
Nick I think Nick that Greece is accessible There is no quarantine in Italy Austria Switzerland France which is your way from your homeland
Σπυριδων Γκουτεβαινος no but I have to quarantine coming back in the UK for 14 days for France and Croatia for sure. We’re sort of locked here when we return 😂
Nick Hodge 😡Next year then😀💪
Looks very smart. If you haven't already you might want to put some clear tank protectors on the large side panels. I've got a GS T E exclusive and the matt panels mark easily so if yours are matt paint too you could have the same issue if that bothers you. I got mine from Nippy's😉
That’s weird Adrian. My mate with an exclusive has them. Thy are Aluminium as opposed to plastic on the adventure but I’m not sure it’s riding style. Think I must ride mine like a cowboy 🤠😂
@@nickhodgeUK Yee haaaaa! Yes it's weird alright. I think the matt paint might be softer as I've had 2 1200s with the same grey panels as you had on your old bike and they never marked up at all. The dealer said they've ordered me a new panel under warranty but prevention is better than cure. Enjoy your new beast
When riding Bertha to the garage, noticed you ride with your sat nav not on a map display. Just wondered what setting you have it on and why. Great new bike enjoy
The BMW Nav VI and prior models, connect to the bike telemetry so you can programme 16 of about 20 settings. You can display 16/4/2 or 1 item by spinning the wonderwheel. 16 for me is too small, so I have 4 giving me speed (GPS is more accurate than speedo), range, average mpg and trip distance. If I’m disappointed with anything it’s the Nav as a Nav!!!!! Too complicated for its own good and eye-wateringly expensive. I find myself using the ‘Connected’ app and TFT Nav more. When you’re on motorway I generally set 75 on cruise control and that’s about 72 on GPS and it’s there big and bold. There is another screen too which is a directional compass and altimeter
Nick Hodge ok thanks for that, will give it a try 👍
Congrats Nick. As always lovely video. 👍🏻 Have a safe ride. Enjoy your GSA. So what have you named her ?
Thanks Jayraj. I’ve time to name her. Think that’s why I became too attached to ‘Bertha’ 😂
Hope you enjoy it as much as mine, best colour...
Thanks Ian. I hope so too 👍🏻
As an owner of a R1250 GSA, would love a video of you moving the BMW fog lights over to the CANSmart controller.
Hi Tom. I’m considering it but only if I can do it without cuts through maybe a converter lead so I can backtrack. Just like the idea of them being ‘flash to pass’, ‘strobe with horn’ and ‘alternate on hazards’ like the others (NOT off with turn signals though as they’re low)
I’m sure you’ll enjoy it Nick. I got the same color (black rims though) back in February to share the stable with my K1600B. I don’t intend on any real off roading (no rock hopping....it’s just too big for that...lol), but nevertheless I was really drawn to the utilitarian look and functionality/work horse capabilities of the bike, especially for moto camping. But at the end of the day it was a bucket list bike for me...always wanted to own one. Having recently turned 64 realistically I have more years behind me than I do in front of me, so I thought if not now, when? So I went for it. I have the CanSmart 2/D4/B6 set up, so I’d be interested in seeing a video of your particular settings at some point. Thanks.
Cheers Ron. All very similar to me and you maybe have my next bike already (1600 Sport). Just wasn’t quite ready to give up GSs until I’d tried and Adventire. Ride safe 👍🏻
Great review, Nick. You will love your GSA. I got mine last year after having 2014 1200 GSA. I have subscribed to a Bike Thing for over a year and think Steve is a great guy. Since I live in Canada, it doesn’t make sense for me to buy anything from him, due to the price differential. One question for you, though - how long is your break-in period or your first service, as you indicated you won’t be taking it in for two weeks before you go to Ireland. Our first service is only 1,000 km. Like the look of your Bumont panniers. They should work out well. Ireland should be a great trip. I have been there on three golf trips and really enjoyed it,, both in the Republic and in NI. Great people, and food. Ride safe.
Hi James. Same thing 600 miles. It’s just we’re approaching season end here and I have to get some of the accessories back in which is maybe 2 days work (need to fit in real work too). She has just 79 miles in her today, of course we’ll do that back up to the dealer so I need a couple of solid 250 mile days in the next two week. Oh the hardship 😂. Ride safe 👍🏻
Hi Nick, lovely bike great choice. Based on your previous GS being ACF50 will you be doing the same on this bike, especially for your eventual Ireland trip.
She's being done on Tuesday at 10am. I guarantee she'll look better than out the showroom!
Congrats Nick, I have the same beautiful beast. Please let us know if the bumot panniers "work" with the 58litres Givi trekker outback top case.
It’s a switch I’ve been putting off but you’re right. I should test it 👍🏻
Got my new 2021 adventure last week
Hope you enjoy it Willett 👍🏻
looks good , get a couple of wall brackets off Steve for the panniers when not using them
Yep. Might look at that. There’s a never ending list 😂👍🏻
Awesome my friend! Congrats!!
I hope your front stock tire serves you better then mine .Bridgestone Battlelax I think 42's noise and wor bad.
Hi Glenn. I had Battlaxs on my last one so am slightly used to them now and that breeds confidence I feel if you know what tyres do. I prefer them to the Anakees on my 1200 and was worried that many new GSs were coming through with the new Anakee hybrid looking tyre. I hear good things about Metzlers so may try them next 👍🏻
@@nickhodgeUK I have recently installed Dunlap TrailMax's on my 2019 GS, so far almost 5000miles in I love them, not for everyone do to they are a "50/50" lol. I think i had a bad front Bridgestone from day 1 new, I complained about "i thought" excessive noise out of the front that only got worse, but the dealer and others said "that a GS", well when I put the Dunlap on that are a lot more aggressive tread pattern "noise gone" at 4000miles my Bridgestone started to wear very weird...and yes I checked tire psi every ride and maintained 36psi.. maybe thats a wrong psi??? Anyhow my friend im very happy for you and congrats again. Looking forward to your upcoming videos on you awesome new bike.
Glenn S yep pressure is certainly right. As these wear I intend to try Metzlers I think?
@@nickhodgeUK a friend of mine is a motor-cop he LOVES his pilot 4s or it maybe pilot 5s... he ride hot, cold, rain always on the bike except ice! And he is on a big BMW..if your staying a street tire.
It's nice but will it ever see the dirt or a river or creek crossing?
Hi Nick, lovely bike great choice. Based on your previous GS being ACF50 will you be doing the same on this bike, especially or your Ireland trip.
Ireland went by the way as they are insisting on 14 days quarantine on entry but yes. I’ll be in touch with Adam to give her a ‘base coat’
I pick mine up on Saturday, the extra £1000 trade in swung it for me. An 'Exclusive' like yours but with lowered suspension and the BMW Akrapovic HP silencer.
Fantastic Sam. It’s weird. I though the extra trade-in was a bit of a con offer as how do you know what they’ll offer but while I was at dealers a number came in with pretty old GSs swapping for new, so it appears to work. Made me feel good about the deal I guess?
The dealer had a year old one in with approx 500 miles on it for 17K which was the one that I was looking at originally. I went back a week later after doing some number crunching and spoke to the salesman about a new one, they upped the offer on mine and with the extra 1K trade in, it made sense to pay a little extra for new.
Sam Dalley fantastic. You’ll love it I’m sure 👍🏻
Congratulations on the upgrade. What prompted the change in brand of the panniers and trunk? I thought you were originally going with GIVIs on the new bike.
Hi Craig.. you lot! 😂. Many comments suggested looking at the Bumot system and glad I did as they are heavier but far better built with many great features for less money. I did indulge myself with the extra Give 58L case though! We’ll see if they work out on tour in a week or so. There is an initial review video in case you’ve not seen it. 👍🏻
Congratulations on the new bike. I'm also looking at changing from the GS to the GSA. The GSA does a large presence on the road. Is that Bumot toolbox also waterproof?
Hi Mark. I’ve done another video on the Luggage and you’ll see the toolbox cover in that. I’d say it’s probably waterproof enough and faces backward of course which may help. Maybe next couple of weeks will tell me as with the travel restrictions we’re now stuck with the UK in mid-late September. ☔️👍🏻😂
Looks great! What are your thoughts on the additional saddle height of the GSA? I think it is 1" higher?
Eric. It is taller. In general i have rider seat high on front and low on back but if I have weight on (passenger/luggage) I have it on low/low. I have also sometimes if on a leisurely ride or near end of long day dropped suspension to ‘Min’. So many choices 👍🏻
Beautiful bike Nick! Just wondering though, what motivated you to "trade up" to the GSA given your GS was so new? I'm curious because I'm shopping for one or the other. Obvious differences aside, why the change?
It a strange thing John and I still need convincing but had I realised the GSA was available in 1250 so soon after the GS I’d have waited. Normally it’s 6-9 months. The deal (£1,000 extra PX) helped although it’s still a chunk of money to change (c£5k) but I do have a bike which would cost £2k more than a GS new (man maths). All the rest is a given, presence, range, crash bars, bigger pegs, extra lights, etc. If you want second hand, buy my old Bertha. She’s just great! 👍🏻
Hi Nick, I’m relatively new to your channel so a quick thanks for all your time and effort in putting together your videos. I’m picking up the same bike tomorrow (3/9) and like a 5yr old on Christmas Eve! This is my first bike after passing so I don’t have anything like your experience. My question is what tyres did you end up with? Mine has Anakee’s and I am questioning changing them quickly to Metz 01’s given the feedback I’ve read on the web. Looking forward to your vids, I’ve also booked my first service for 2wks time! Cheers
Hi Malcolm. It seems the very recent builds have Anakee Adventures on which is a bit of a Hybrid. Mine has the same as my GS which are Bridgestone Battlax A41. I was happy with these on my GS for sure and replaced like for like when they were changed. I do hear good thinks about the Metzelers though for sure and have a mate who had the dealer swap them for a relatively small fee???
Nick Hodge my friends GSA came with the a41’s and he has recently replaced them with the 01’s. He much prefers the 01’s. OK - I’ll see that happens. Interestingly, the MT07 I passed on felt quite awkward initially, then the frontier was replaced and it felt much better (compared to my ktm 125 duke). It will be interesting to see how the anakees go. Noise is one thing, but lack of wet grip is another 😀
I'm jealous. Wasn't there a recall on the front brake calipers? I didn't think any GSs were being sold until a fix was available.
There was. It was a batch of the Hayes brakes (BMW branded) several months ago. The current models are supposed to be OK and I never had trouble with my old GS which had those callipers. As the sales manager told me yesterday he feels that BMW are generally quite up-front about putting right the wrongs despite the reputation they don’t. 👍🏻
Hi again nick!do you gave any update on the left cylinder clicking noise?thanks again my friend
I’m afraid not. It seems like BMW do not see it as a malfunction. I have seen it demonstrated and many of the boxer engines are louder on the left. My current GSA is probably quieter than my old bike but it is new also. I’ll let you know if I hear anything 👍🏻
Hi. What GoPro bracket do you use on your Shoei flip helmet? thanks
Hi Don. I think there are links in the description of the video but I did a full video on it here czcams.com/video/A3N_dzNMMnY/video.html
I was at that dealership last Saturday purchasing my F850GS. I think I can just see my bike in the showroom pan?
Ha ha. That’s great David. You’ve been zooming haven’t you 😂😂. Hope you enjoy the 850. I must ride some of these smaller ones and see what they offer. Ride safe 👍🏻
