Thanks. Good instructions. Calm, clear, concise.
Nice vidéo. In Frenxh, we don't find this knifes. Myself, I use à Mora120 and severals others knives and little gouges. Excuse me to my english
I agree on DHK Pistol Grip!
Handle fit and function equals joy.
Tools can give us joy. Thanks
I have an old Ron Wells knife and it is incredible! Glides through wood like butter
I use Occt and DH knives.
When a dental brush doesn't work I have a dental pick in my kit and it is great for those stubborn areas, I also have stylists it Bob Hershey showed that they are good for burnishing the eyes on the animal characters.
I have a good start on my knives but as far as the gouges and V-tools go what do you recommend as far as buying a complete set what set I want a good set what do you recommend. Right now I’m only interested in small figure carving and Christmas ornaments. Your a very good carver by the way. And I’m learning all I can. Thank you
Thanks Van, these tool tips are always very helpful.
I use a flexcut roughing knife that I've flattened the grind on, and a Chip carving knife from Lee Valley. I also inherited 4 other knives the my Dad made back in the 90's, those ones are very special to me.
I have a Bud Murray large skew. I wish I had bought a couple sizes when I had the opportunity.
I really enjoyed this segment. Besides my OCC Tools and Flexcut knives, I am the proud owner of some tools that my grandfather used that, to my best guess are over 100 years old. I use these often and they are a joy to work with. I'd love to post a picture so all can see these fine tools.
Is there a way I can post a picture? Thanks.
Thanks Van ,great channel! Luv the DHK myself. Tried a few brands, and like these the best.
I actually have a couple of these. Keep up the good work buddy!
You forgot to mention the blower. 😉
Thanks for the great tutorial Van. What brand is that soft V tool you showed. Take care.
Good afternoon, Van! Please show, how to carve an eagles head. Sorry for my English. Hello from Russia.
What line of gouges come razor sharp to start out without having to sharpen right away?
Hello! How can I get the unique tools?
Best way is to shop around. Either online or at shows.
So far I find gouges very difficult to use. I'm not to good at sharpening them either.
Thanks for the great info. I have been searching to try and find that #7-3/16"-Soft V with no success. I know you use that one a lot with facial features. Any advice on where to find one or a substitute type tool ? Thanks as always. Your videos are the best.
Actually soft V-tools any size are hard to find.
OCCT v-tools are soft vees. For the most part. Pheil tools #14 are also soft vees.
Flexcut also has soft V-tools, maybe easier to find than OCCT.
