The 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy Is A Bargain Priced Luxury 3-Row SUV

- Crazy to think after so many years of struggling to offer a competitive 3-row family SUV, #Hyundai went and knocked it out of the park back in 2020 with the #HyundaiPalisade. For 2023, the fully loaded #PalisadeCalligraphy gets some minor tweaks but with luxury touches like a massaging drivers seat and heated/cooled second row captains chairs, the latest #Palisade offers nearly as much luxury and tech in a 3-row family SUV that cost about half the price of the actual luxury players.

Even though the latest Palisade doesn't technically share a platform with very well done Genesis GV80, this refreshed Palisade offers touches like a massaging drivers seat, heated/cooled second row seats with a "winged" pillow-like headrest, and a heated 3rd row seat to really make you feel like you're driving a luxury car. No other vehicle in this segment still comes close to the premium touches Hyundai offers in this Calligraphy version. For about half the price of a luxury vehicle like the BMW X7 or Mercedes-Benz GLS, this car is a steal for those of you wanting luxury on a budget!
You should also add that the upcoming Toyota grand highlander already lost badly to the palisade and telluride and we haven’t even seen it yet
As your consultant on future Toyota products, I strongly discourage you from reviewing or looking at the grand highlander because the palisade has already wiped the grand highlander inside and out before anyones seen it
@@naveenthemachine LOL! What? LOL!
@@twoweeledsoto6072 😂. You can’t accept the reality.
The grand highlander has no chance to compete and we haven’t even seen the entire vehicle yet. It won’t be anywhere near as attractive or as luxurious or tech rich or as spacious or boast a wow factor vs the palisade. That’s a fact not an opinion
@@naveenthemachine I heard you, I just didn't understand a thing you wrote. 🤣 You edited both your comments. See how I did. It shows.

Doesn’t change the fact that I’m right
I really love what Hyundai does with the Palisade. Such a beautiful design inside and out, and I think that they really did wonders with this vehicle. Hyundai has really stepped it up in terms of vehicle usability, quality, and design, and they are miles ahead with what they provided many years ago.
Hyundai under investigation for recent Palisade windshield wipers’ recall
December 18, 2022 Joseph Estabillo Hyundai Recalls
Fountain Valley, CA - December 18, 2022 - The U.S. government’s auto safety regulator is investigating Hyundai (NASDAQ:HYMTF) regarding “the scope and remedy” of a recent recall conducted for faulty windshield wipers.
The investigation could result in a recall of an additional 126,081 cars, including the following:
2021 Hyundai Palisade
2022 Hyundai Palisade
2023 Hyundai Palisade
We have a 2022 Palisade and absolutely love it. High end features for great cost and 10 year warranty can’t be beat. The second row seating is cavernous and the automatic 3rd row seat feature is great at this price point. Highly recommend
Sofyan, thank you so much for your excellent review. My Wife and I went and bought the 2023 Hyundai Palisade in the Calligraphy trim level today here in Houston, in the Moonlight Cloud exterior color, and could not be happier. Thank you so much, for helping me make such an informed, intelligent decision.
We have a 2020 Limited, which was replaced with the Calligraphy, kept trim I believe but some of the options moved to the higher trim and we still love it. Due to Covid we haven't driven much so it's got about 15K miles and thus far no problems. Hope to keep it for many years as it's been a fantastic car!
We love our 2020, we've put 32000 on it. We had the bad sunroof experience and now we're afraid to open the replacement. I hope they re-engineered it on the calligraphy. Thinking of that one next.
Love the emerald green and just recently we were in the market for either palisade calligraphy or Kia telluride and I didn’t really like the palisade before and loved the telluride but with this refresh just fell in love with the palisade and offers more as well and was going to go with this color but it only comes with the black interior and wanted the beige/navy so went with the steel graphite and beige interior and man I love it. If you like telluride you can’t go wrong either way. They both have a different look and it’s a good thing.
Took a look at one with the same emerald paint -- the color is phenomenal in person, even at night. Makes me really tempted to get one, though I wish the emerald exterior came with that light white/beige interior color.
Yes it is beautiful and me and my partner wanted one so bad until we found out it only came with black interior. We went with the steel graphite with beige/navy interior and love it. If you get one you won’t be disappointed.
I’ve always preferred the Palisade over the Telluride. It just seems more luxurious especially on the interior. That shade of green is beautiful, would be my pick. KIA has really stepped up their design in their vehicles across all models.
Palisade is Hyundai.
This is great review! I am shopping for proper 7 seater where I can fit family of four and In-laws / Parents when they visit us. I like the colour and features for $50k price. I am trying to get one for test drive. I own Santa Fe Sport 2018 and no complaints related to its performance, quality and comfort. Thanks again for the great review!
That 'random' speck of light in the DRL is due to Korean lighting laws that say DRL's cannot be disconnected by more than a certain distance - so they added a 'bridge'. Same reason why the pre-facelift models actually had the light in the light housing, but no cutout in the bumper lol.
I must say...🤔I really am enamored with this vehicle. The exterior color & front fascia as well as the interior accoutrements are magnifique to this car lover😍. Also I continue being in love with naturally asperated V6s or V8s so I'm great with the lack of electrification (unless it's a mild hybrid type system that only adds to the before mentioned engines). Thanks for the awesome video; however, I did so miss the laugh that comes from the 0-60 test 😂
@UCON5pL-dBUgUrQkDGQEByXw Here's your text...do something more beneficial with your time😒🤔 like idk getting a real job? People are hiring ya know.
No power folding mirrors is a miss, but other than that and wireless CarPlay, this thing is an amazing value. I just wish they had a blackout option for the Calligraphy so I don’t have to wrap/dip it.
I totally agree. Got my palisade this week and was sad to find out the mirrors dont power fold and i cant use carplay without having my phone plugged in. Oh well. Still so happy with my car :)
That is not important. In fact keep your mirrors open to give clearance to cars next to you. What important is the heated third row. It is a very needed feature for big families living in midwest!
Excellent and concise review.
Don't forget to mention their best warranty in the business on top of the premium, "low cost" experience with this vehicle. I have a 2021 model and I wholeheartedly enjoy this vehicle. Highly recommend it in this space.
It was between the Telluride (BMW) or the Palisade (Mercedes) overall interior/exterior look for me. And I went with the "Mercedes" vibe, styling at a cheaper cost than those luxury bank breaking brands. If you're serious about purchasing a new SUV I highly recommend test driving one of these, and even the previous year model, like from a returned lease, even more cost savings on a well worth SUV! 👍🏻👍🏻
Most 2023 owners have commented that the calligraphy audio system doesn’t sound as good as the pre-refresh including the removal of the bass boost. I am surprised it still sounds great to you.
Thanks for a thorough review, I've been waiting on your complete review of the 2023 Honda Pilot. When you review the 2023 Honda Pilot please do some comparisons to the Palisade and Telluride. I'm stuck between these and want some unbiased professional opinions from someone whose been around all three. Thanks.
If you don’t know what you want go with the pilot. If you know what you want go w the telluride for looks or palisade for luxury
I love that Emerald color. I agree Sofyan - the interior should come with a beige/brown wood interior color option which would go well with the Emerald.
So glad to see green making a comeback on vehicles. This shade of emerald looks particularly rich on this scale of a vehicle.
The 2023 Palisade has taken over my love for the Telluride, which somewhat disappointed me with its refresh(front end styling). Yes, this does beg the question of whether the Genesis is even worth it. The Palisade has 80-90% of the luxury, isn't too far off in the performance dept, far better interior space, and does a great impression of the luxury experience.
They dropped the ball with the front end change on the Telluride. It makes the car look cheap. It’s sad because they updated the interior with some nice features.
Love the vids Sofyan!!!
Everyone talks about the Telluride i actually like this better. Esp the update looks really good
I agree 100%... The front profile, side profile, and interior are more luxurious than the Telluride... The only this that is better on a Telluride is the folding mirrors and shifter...
199 % AGREE
@@tavo3234 True but the Palisade gets auto-dimming mirrors over the Telluride, which is arguably better.
@@ishaansaral502 I think the Palisade is was better than the Telluride... People claim that the Telluride looks like a Range Rover but I don't see it... If anything that side profile of the Palisade looks like a Aviator or a Range Rover... Plus this year the Palisade gets heated 3rd row seats...
2023palisades better than 2023 telluride
It can run on the Atkinson cycle or Otta cycle that's why you can get such good MPG on the highway some owners have been getting 32 MPG
Excellent review, yes the Hyundai Palisade is one excellent family vehicle. It checks all the boxes, class-leading interior, good fuel economy, a super quiet ride, and sometimes feels like an electric vehicle on the highway. Yes, a hybrid would be a great option. I looked and drove both vehicles, the Telluride and the Palisade and we decided to go with the Palisade, the best bang for the buck. Don't pay the dealer mark-up game, find a dealer that will sell at or below M.S.R.P. The Palisade also comes with 3 years of free maintenance, whereas the KIA does not. You won't go wrong with the Palisade.
I love that they’ve kept the hard buttons along with the screen.
My favorite truck....patiently waiting on a hybrid version of the Palisade..hopefully hyundai delivers on that
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT YEAR OF ENTERTAINMENT 🙏.......HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
Why no power folding mirrors?
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
When will you be testing the new 2023 Honda Pilot? and tell us how they compare.
The pilot will tie w the palisade and telluride for segment benchmark
Great Video 💯
It a sweet ride but the only thing that I don’t like is you can’t pick a full second row for any model instead you stuck with captain chairs. Which I don’t like because if you only use two row and put anything behind the second row anything can slide to pass the second row because of the dumb captain chairs.
I got the calligraphy in moonlit cloud (blue) with the navy/beige interior. I absolutely love this car. The ride is so smooth and quiet but there are a few things that I feel could use some improvement. Minor things overall but here they are: Ambient lighting is very dim, even at highest setting and you barely notice it, even at night. Second, the steering wheel doesn’t come out (forward) enough and this isn’t in my head lol, even heard it mentioned in a review on CZcams. And lastly, the stereo. I’ve had Harmon Karden before in previous vehicles and they sounded way better than this. Like anything, Harmon has higher and lower end products and this is definitely a lower end stereo from them. My last car only had the HiFi and it sounded better than this. But all in all this is an incredible car both in terms of comfort, and all that encompasses as far as ride quality and creature comforts/amenities, as well as aesthetics, both inside and out. And for what it’s worth, I was pleasantly surprised with the engine performance. Has a lot more pep than I was anticipating and is pretty responsive. I usually leave it on smart mode. Anyway, from an actual owner of the 2023 feel free to reply id anyone has any questions, I’d be happy to answer/help.
Thanks Kipperrd for your perspective as an actual owner. I am considering the Calligraphy (same color combination as yours) with AWD. Dealerships here in KC are still holding out for sticker price plus..... If I may ask what is your real world gas mileage? I would be driving 70% highway and 30% on city streets with never ending traffic lights. Also I still calculate gas mileage by the mileage divided by actual fuel used. My experience is that my real world mileage average 1 to 1 1/2 miles per gallon lower than what the vehicles computer calculates.
@@gregg5862 Hey Greg, so I’ve only gone by the vehicle info, which is on full display in this car. Gas mileage is always shown and as a result I’ve been fixating on it lol. We seem to have the same driving dynamic as I’m on the parkways most of the time and around town much less. I’d probably say 80/20 split. The gas mileage has NOT been impressive. I have managed to get up to 24 mpg when I was consciously trying to increase it but real world driving into work and such on the parkway is yielding about 18-19 mpg. My commute is all parkway and no traffic lights between my driveway and my parking spot at work, so it’s pretty ideal conditions in terms of accuracy. However, and this may not be as big a factor as it sounds, but I drive on average approx 80-85 mph when on parkway to work. That being said, my last car, a 2020 X5 averaged 22mpg for the same drive under all the same conditions. Around town and especially if you get a little “punchy” with the accelerator, it shows on average about 15-16 mpg. Like I said, not too impressive but not the worst either. And just a side note, I come from a long history of BMW’s and only started looking at the palisade because of the absurd pricing on cars right now (I lease) and couldn’t afford to get another this time. I was looking for as much as a “lateral transfer” as possible in terms of amenities and overall luxury and I have to say, though I miss the power and driving dynamics of a BMW, this palisade was the best choice I’ve made in a long time lol. I’m very happy with it for what it’s worth.
@@JackAubreyy I’m glad you’re happy with them but there is a notable difference in what I had versus this one. There is the possibility something is defective I suppose, after all there were a few reviews I watched prior to getting mine that mentioned various issues with the car that needed to be addressed and I myself had to bring it back for an alignment. They said it must have been pulled out of alignment when it was chained down for shipping.
@@JackAubreyy that’s some pretty high praise you’re giving, I think I will have it checked now. What do you think of the volume level? It goes from 1-75 max but It doesn’t really get to a reasonable level until around 40 or so and even then I find myself turning it up because it all sounds a bit muddled. I’ve turned it up to 75 just to hear the max volume and even that seems too low for “max level”. Have you notified this too or maybe it’s just another indicator that my system may be defective.
@@JackAubreyy Thanks, I’m going to give them a call and try to get it in next week.
I'm about to trade my very reliable 2013 Mercedes GLK 350 for this vehicle. Initially I just planned on upgrading it to a newer Mercedes GLB for it's third row but the features for this vehicle are superior for far less price.
Huge styling improvement! Don't like the tires though....should be Michelin!
When is the Palisade due for a complete re-do? Will it have a hybrid powertrain then? Will Genesis get an SUV this size (or bigger) in 2025?
2025 it should get a new bigger palisade
Our lease is almost up on our 2020 Palisade and they want it back (only 10k miles!). Going to try to negotiate for the Calligraphy this time around since we are in the catbird seat for negotiation. The high end feel of the Palisade has spoiled me for other cars full of cheap finishes and cramped spaces.
What car has massage seats for passengers
I don't think the Palisade is bargain priced. I think Hyundai priced it correctly. How can many of their competitors charge +20K more than this vehicle with less build quality, features and overall integrity? The Palisade is not a bargain, it's the class leader along with it's sister vehicle the KiA Telluride. Bravo Hyundai/KIA. Kick *ss.
We have heard the windows have a grey cast to them rather than perfectly clear. Also We hear there is lots of road noise. I hope those points can be dispelled.
The front windows are perfectly clear! The rear windows are tinted so they look a little grey from the inside in bright sunlight. You can kind of see it around 14:50.

Love my '22 Palisade Calligraphy, nicest car I've ever had. The refresh is ok, can't tell the trims apart anymore. Calligraphy used to have all the extra exterior upgrades, now they all do. Nothing stands out. Inside, I'll take the '22 quilted interior over the refreshed pattern. Overall a great family hauling car for the money. I'll wait till it gets a hybrid power train before I get another or trade mine in.
Definitely agree about the quilted leather of the 2022 Palisade Calligraphy which I also bought my wife last year. Sad to see that changed for 2023. I do like the front end of this refreshed one better with it's boxier shape, but all the other changes don't really move me or the wife. We'll trade in once a hybrid powertrain is available also since she has complained about the gas mileage more than once over her previous Chevy Traverse which oddly never got less than 20MPG even with an also naturally aspirated V6. Otherwise great vehicles all around.
Hyundai got it right with the palisade, but it's missing the damn power folding mirrors. Hyundai needs to stop taking the option of not having power folding mirrors.

Incandescent reverse lights obviously should’ve been LEDs. It’s small shortcuts such as those that tells me Hyundai isn’t serious about competing in this market.
Literally all of its competitors also use incandescent reverse lights. The Highlander and brand new Pilot even have incandescent turn signals in the front and back. Guess if Hyundai takes small shortcuts, Toyota and Honda take the largest ones. Dumb comment that reeks of fanboyism.
@@ishaansaral502 You seem to be quite triggered over a small critique of this vehicle. I would have the same criticism of Toyota and Honda if anything less than LEDs were used on a SUV with a $45k-$50k price point. The Palisade has LED lighting everywhere! Including in the headliners as far back as the third row. There is no excuse to exclude them from the reverse lights.
