    Started training for front lever 3 years ago, also felt it was imposible and gave up. But I started doing weighted pull ups, last week I did 9 pull ups with 30kg added. And yesterday just for fun I was trying to do fron lever and to my shock I could do straddle front lever for 4-5 seconds that was a shock for me and now I think I am gonna learn the skill once and for all

    Great vid.
    For anyone. Front lever is a lever - so math. 2 main things are: 1st. your ape index (higher possitive, than easiser FL is) and 2nd. more weight at teh end of a lever, than harder it is (%weight of your legs and ass to full obdy weight - if higher than harder FL is). I have +9cm ape index (so very good), but I played basketball for many years, haven't trained upper body so my legs and ass weight a lot.
    There are two other excercies taht can tell if you are able to do FL:
    1. Dragon flag
    2. Weighted pullups - 1 rep max with 30-70% + (depends on ape index and weight distribution in your body).
    Everyone Who can do dragon flag and weighted pullup with 70% weight of his body, can do FL (just need tehniq). Guys with chicken legs, and high possitev ape index can do FL even when their 1 rep max for weighted pullups is like 30-40% added.

    • @r9bina525
      @r9bina525 Před 11 měsíci

      it doesnt work for me at least. I can do dragon flag, but im not practicing this exercies cause i feel quite a strong pain in lower back even that my body is fully straight. I can do a pullup with 70% of weight and chinup with 80%, have been practicing front lever for 2 month already. Now i can do 5 sec of not perfect stradle fl. I think problem could be in one of two things:
      1. Weak lower back+not the strongest lower abs. When i practicing front lever holds i always feel my lower back too much.
      2. I think that pullups is more about lats but front lever more about middle back. At least that what i feel when i perform fl. Deadlifts or similar excercies are more superior for developing certain muscles for fl in my opinion. Sadly im working out at home and dont have this equipment.
      I will continue train and hopefully reach my goal in a couple of months.

    • @Raidenorius
      @Raidenorius Před 11 měsíci

      @@r9bina525
      You might be wrong about lower back, as in 90% problems with FL are due to "pull up" back muscels strenght. Sure it deepends - maybe your Dragon flag is not in correct form, as you feel pain. Have you tried to record it and watch? Lower back pain ussual is due to weak gluts and hips problems.
      BTW Best way to learn FL is by active progressions. Try to mix your best progressions with one step down activly. So start with tuck FL, then switch adv. Tuck FL and back to tuck FL (it's one rep) if your best (able to do) progressions is adv. Tuck FL. Do as meny reps as you are able to.
      2nd would be active negatives from top (leges over the bar/ring) to bottom in one motion. Do it with your best progressions and when you will be able to do correct stradle, do it with full FL. Other active can be like switching legs with one leg FL or last progresion can be (starting from one leg FL) moving your heel of one leg from kenn to foot of other leg.
      Never do ice creams makers. Those 2 excerceis above should make it for you.
