- The Shetland Sheepdog is an extremely intelligent and playful herding dog who loves playing with children and learning new tricks. Shelties are easy to train and are world-class competitors in obedience, agility, and herding trials. They’re loyal and affectionate with their family but can be reserved toward strangers. (Bonus: This trait makes them excellent watchdogs-like an alarm system that likes to cuddle.)

We had a sable, Jasper, that was so smart and seemed to know he was stunningly beautiful. He loved to be brushed and combed ever morning by my Mom when she was in her Golden Years. She spent an hour pampering him right after breakfast. He LOVED it. ❤

,My Sheltie can be REALLY loud and he LOVES to bark at every little thing. Even though I don’t care most of the time, sometimes i just wish he was quiet when he starts barking at a tree branch at 3 in the morning

I have a sheltie and whenever we're on a walk and I stop for a sec, he loops around me and walks forward to try and herd me. It's so cute but also annoying because I have to either turn around or switch the hand the leash is in.
My Dad is getting one But hes gonna save up money theyre so kawaii 😍

Love Shelties. My Sheltie not only excels in obedience, but knows 39 tricks to date. I intend on teaching him more...
Paula Mears I once counted and my Sheltie knows somewhere around 75 words and phrases (that we know of). I can tell him in which room of the house a specific persons is and he'll go there without hesitation. Shelties are incredibly intelligent.
He only knows the basic commands though 39 is very impressive!

Me too, best dog I ever trained, she was the runt of the bunch, never got over 19 lbs, cutiest little girl. She was a purebred but I felt she was to small for breading. I am so sad see is gone

I don't know one of my Shetland sheepdogs is lazy lap floof.
Watch Dog? LOL The only thing my Sheltie watches is me. Anyone can break in anytime anywhere and she would just ignore them. I'm so glad the person mentioned they are not a lap dog because I have wondered about that since my Sheltie rather be at my feet, or play 24/7 if I could play that long lol but now she will be 14 this year so she rather have rubs behind the ear now which she use to never care about. So hard seeing her not do what she loved so much running and playing. My first dog, a part collie would live in my lap if I let her LOL so after she passed on I thought I'd get a smaller dog that would fit in my lap better but she could care less about my lap LOL
Just Me Yeah, my sheltie wouldn’t be great at defending the house. She actually barks whenever somebody drives a car near our house but that’s basically it. I feel like if a burglar broke into my house my sheltie would just be licking the burglar.
