Canine Name Game: The Wacky World of Dog Breed Misnomers
In this episode, we explore beloved canine breeds whose modern names may have gotten a little bit lost in translation over time. Just as humans have migrated all over the earth, so have their loyal, hardworking companions. War, wealth, and trade have all distributed dogs over diverse geographic areas (or in some cases, jobs) that may or may not match up with their monikers. Only true dog enthusiasts could win trivia night at the local tavern if the topic were the origins of dog breed names (you can thank us later).

• This breed is indeed great, but not a Dane. As tall as 32 inches at the shoulder, Danes tower over most other dogs, and when standing on their hind legs, they are taller than most people. These powerful giants are the picture of elegance and balance, with the smooth and easy stride of born noblemen. The coat comes in different colors and patterns, perhaps the best-known being the black-and-white patchwork pattern known as “harlequin.” Despite their sweet nature, Danes are alert home guardians. The OES is a big, agile dog who enjoys exploring and a good romp. Beneath the Old English Sheepdog’s profuse double coat is a muscular and compact drover, with plenty of bone and a big rump, standing 21 or 22 inches at the shoulder. Their eyes (when you can see them) are dark brown, or blue, or one of each. Regular exercise is required for these strong, able-bodied workers. oh my word THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! i have been looking all over for a side by side live image in video and at the very least a picture online but not one NOT A SINGLE ONE not even a drawn picture of a side by side comparison. BUT tons of stupid videos of karens of all ages going on for hours about the sizes of their standard size and miniature dachshunds running around them just right out of sight of the video ... can you believe that , i was so furious i left a comment to them about it. and finally this video saves the day .... ty ty ty, i am getting a pure bred miniature dachshund in less than a few weeks. i wanted to get an idea of how big or small it will be when finished growing. the best way to get an idea is to see a visual demo of it and thank you so much to offer one right here!!! this is super helpful.

We had a sable, Jasper, that was so smart and seemed to know he was stunningly beautiful. He loved to be brushed and combed ever morning by my Mom when she was in her Golden Years. She spent an hour pampering him right after breakfast. He LOVED it. ❤

My girlfriend has a standard black and tan female and a standard brown and tan wire haired male great dogs I love how suspicious they are of strangers and how easy they are to maintain compared to her teacup Shih Tzu that has to go to the groomer every 2-3 weeks... Question: all white Americans staffordshire terrier can still be register, i know that but can they compete? Reason being the UKC also shows these dogs and registers them but will NOT allow an all white ones to compete. The AKC website isn't clear, and ive never seen one compete in show.
This is what it says in the American Staffordshire Terrier breed standard, which you can find linked on our AKC breed page: "Color: Any color, solid, parti, or patched is permissible, but all white, more than 80 per cent white, black and tan, and liver not to be encouraged."
I have an idea...let the dogs run free in a wide encircled area to see how long they run without getting tired...without restraint...poor animals...of course they like to run but not long distance. Are the vets on the check points pro Iditarod?

We own a Border collie and would never love a dog any more. I have known friends with Shelties and they are wonderful pets. Only issue is that they bark a lot. They are a beautiful intelligent breed.
