    He doesn't want to destroy his father's legacy, even though he assumes Allicent would think so. He just doesn't care about it. He understands that other people might want to keep it around, so he has the books moved out of his bedroom.
    And then Allicent absolutely wrecks what was his self-image of being a ruler that was different, but not disregarding the previous, and he decides to just do what he wants; destroy. First victim, that pitcher of wine.

    Aegon and aemond's little high valyrian moment is peak bilingual child, the understanding but the being unable to get out a sentence in the right order. Rhaenyra grew up with two Targaryen parents so she speaks hv like a first language whereas her siblings had a hightower mum and an absent dad so of course they would have difficulty. It makes aemond being fluent all the more impressive because he's clearly worked at it. That's my bilingual 2 cents anyway

    • @alastorcorvus
      @alastorcorvus Před 25 dny +6

      Good input, but wrong considering everything we know about the Greens.
      Aemond had no difficulty learning Valyrian, he was proficient with it since he was a child, he didn't just gave one-word commands to her, he spoke to her in short sentences.
      I can bet that Helaena has a good grasp of the language as well, but since she's coded as autistic, it depends on how well the Maester handled her neurodivergence.
      Aegon was just too busy wanking and drinking to be bothered to actually learn Valyrian, he never wanted to be king and Sunfyre clearly understands him in Common, why should someone like Aegon care about learning things?

      It makes me curious about whether any of the children might’ve had Valyrian tutors. Doesn’t seem likely since it seems like Valyrian is exclusively a targ thing, but iirc the dragonkeepers spoke a little Valyrian so I feel like it could be possible that there might be other people to learn it from besides their parents. Then again, the one time we see one of the kids practicing speaking it (Jace), his mother seemed to be the one instructing him. I do thing the Valyrian language is a cool way to represent the difference between Viserys’s treatment of his child by Aemma vs. his children by Alicent.

Maybe just another sign that the Targ's don't really understand their relationship to the dragons like Viserys hinted at. I find the audience reactions to the first dance fascinating. Almost everyone agrees that once the dragons danced, they realized how awful war is. Added with the fall of Rook’s Rest, we’ve reached the final point of no return. Dragon fought dragon and now the realm will burn.
    For weeks now, people were dragging the show for being “slow”, “boring”, and a lot of talking. In a sense, I was in the same boat. While I loved the dialogue and character moments, I was excited for battles and for the first dragon fight. But now that it happened, I wish we could go back to simpler times. When the biggest issue in the world was who Rhaenyra would marry. Or even the times when the biggest issue was how Rhaenyra would be treated when Viserys’s son is born (given he lived).
    War is hell, and violence is often alluring. It can be cathartic, but in the end, is it worth it?

She was so against this war from the beginning, it made sense to me that she may prefer to be the first casualty so she doesn’t have to see any more of her family die. In the same way, her “off to battle again old girl” felt more like she understood that the Targaryens continue this cycle of violence, riding their dragons for conquest at seemingly every opportunity. It felt like she wanted to end her and Melys participation in the cycle of violence, either by dying or defeating Aemond, rather than survive just to see and participate in more bloodshed. 48:50 I believe Rhaenys' decision not to flee was not foolish. She had already decimated the battlefield and endured a fierce clash with Sunfyre and Aegon, sustaining significant damage. The odds of escaping Vhagar were slim, and her choice to repeatedly turn back was made with great difficulty. However, my main gripe with the dragon battles is the lack of emphasis on speed and agility. It often comes down to "I'm bigger than you, so you die," which is quite simplistic. Another issue is the conservative portrayal of the dragons. For instance, Sunfyre is supposed to be stunningly beautiful with golden fire, yet in the show, he's just another dragon with a gold tint. This change diminishes the irony of Aegon's character; he truly could have been 'that guy,' but due to poor decision making, poor parenting and malicious schemes, he has fallen far short of his potential.

    I think Alicent leaving the bottle of Moon Tea out for Larys to see isn't a case of her just being dumb and not putting it away in time. I think it's more like she simply doesn't care anymore? She seems to have very quickly become jaded to everything after the reveal with Rhaenyra last episode, and I think this is kinda her way of saying to Larys "I don't give a shit about your blackmail now, there's no going back anyway."
    Larys even tries to kinda probe Alicent a few times, asking her if she's worried about Criston and implying he knows she might be pregnant, and she just kinda shrugs him off and stares off into space, where previously she would look guilty and uncomfortable whenever he was around. The conversation they have after that plays into this I think, about how any significance of Viserys's wishes died with him, and that now there will be war no matter what in which the victor will decide the truth.
    Alicent is at a point where no matter what she does there will be war and thousands will die. Does she really care about any blackmail Larys might have? The secret of Lyonel's and Harwin's death would hurt Larys more than her, and if he outs her affair with Criston (to who, first of all? Her son the King, who she has no regard for at all, or the Hand, who she is having the affair with?) publicly he'd be hurting the Greens as a whole, which is bad for Larys too since he's already hitched his wagon to them.
    The worst possible outcome for anyone here is Criston being disgraced and executed for breaking his oath, and Alicent barely seems to care about his well-being at all.

    I don't really understand all the confusion behind the decision to send one dragon to Rook's Rest. Rhaenyra is the queen so going to battle is not a real option. They made it clear back in season one that risking an heir to the throne is basically never an option, removing the option to send Jace without even mentioning the fact that Rhaenyra just recently lost a son on dragonback. Baela's dragon is barely of fighting age so sending Moondancer to fight against even the potential of ANY green dragon is insanity. Daemon and his dragon are currently incapacitated at Harrenhall. That leaves one dragonrider who happens to have a powerful large dragon.
    Now, let's consider Rhaenyra's thought process when deciding weather or not to send dragons to Rook's Rest. She understands that Rook's Rest has very few strategic advantages. It's mostly morale that is being fought for. Sending and potentially losing all your dragonriders for Rook's Rest would likely be considered one of the worst strategic options available. Sending no dragons and LOSING Rook's Rest would be SIGNIFICANTLY better. On top of this fact, she knows and understands the green thought process as she adapts the same in respect to dragons and their riders. Sending Aegon is not an option as he is the king. Sending Aemond who is currently the heir to the throne is not an option. Sending Helaena the queen is not an option. No dragons were used in the taking of Rosby, Stokeworth or Duskendale. It is VERY reasonable to assume that no dragons will be used at Rook's Rest. That is why Aemond and Cole's trap works.
    My complaint is why wouldn't Rhaenys leave the moment she saw Vhagar? Meleys is the fastest dragon and she has two different options to get reinforcement or retreat to safety. She can fly to Hallenhall to get Daemon who wouldn't even ask questions to join her or she can fly back to Dragonstone to retreat. In my opinion, flying back to dragonstone is the clear best option here. The only thing I can think of is she just wants to injure Vhagar, which I assume she accomplishes, but at the same time her death severely cripples any chance of ambushing Vhagar in the future as now the only current available threat to Vhagar is Caraxes.

    48:15 I think Rhaenys was thinking, either I, the most battle tested (somehow, do war crimes count as war? • @acuyra
    @acuyra Před 26 dny +8

    I think an important thing to remember is that Rhaenys doesn’t have to kill Vhagar, she has to kill Aemond. It’s dangerous, but all Melys needs to do is get a good fire blast on Vhagar’s back and Aemond is done.

      Meleys alone had a chance, Meleys with either Caraxes or with Vermithor would have taken out Vhagar. Especially with Rhaenys and Daemon's experience together. They wouldn't come out clean, but Vhagar loses that 2v1 every time.

      @@alastorcorvus It’s funny to think that one of the smaller faster dragons might actually be the perfect counter to Vhagar. She’s big, but all that power doesn’t mean much if your opponent can just drop down and kill your rider before you know what’s going on.
