  • After 27K miles, its time to do a proper review on these Yokohama Geolandar XMTs, AKA Extreme Mud Terrains.
Ive owned these tires for a few years now, and have taken them offroad all across the country, and logged thousands of road miles with them. In this video we dive in and take a look at how i like them.
Lets take a look at these tires and talk about; Road noise, tread life, mud capabilities, rock crawling, height and weight, and much more.
Alot of people look at these and think, "Wow those will be loud" or "Man they will only last a few thousand miles on the road". Well, yokohama worked some magic with these tires!!
They are a great tire that handles alot of offroad situations extremely well, however they do have a few drawbacks that i mention in this video.
So whether your a mud bogger, a rock crawler, an east coast overlander, or just someone who wants a cool set of tires, be sure to stick around for the whole video and see if these tires are for you!
For those who are looking to see what the durometer of your current tires are, here is a link so you can check for yourself:
    amzn.to/32M52XY
I hope you enjoyed the video. Please remember that a lot of thought and prep needs to go into your Jeep before running larger tires, and make sure to upgrade the appropriate parts before installing larger tires on your Jeep.

Tire diameter is most important for calculating speed and distance travelled. As a note, although the diameter is reduced when you put the weight of the jeep on them, the circumference remains the same (which is how your vehicle computer calculates distance travelled < Circumference = Pi* Diameter (of unweighted tire))

That’s mounted and settled for over 2 weeks though. Most people measure right after they put them on

Keep in mind if you were not aware that overall tire diameter is not the same measurement as he measured in the video. Overall diameter which most tire charts list out as a spec is a tire mounted on the correct width rim and then inflated and measuring its total diameter with no weight on the tire. What was measured in the video is not even a stated height type measurement from tire manufacturers to be able to compare to specs listed from the tire companies. The other tire manufacture number that sometimes is listed is what they call a static loaded radius diameter and that would be by inflating to whatever the manufacture decides to use for a pressure and may be maximum inflation with maximum allowable weight and that is measured from the floor to the center of the axle hub. Its this second measurement that will tell you the height you've gained from one tire to another mounted on the same vehicle/same weight but with the huge variable being inflation pressure as that changes everything drastically for a loaded radius height. So in the video that 38.5 inches was arrived by measuring static loaded radius ( as per that jeeps weight and inflation pressure ) and then adding half of a total overall diameter unloaded tire together. Also there is a revolutions per mile measurement listed by manufacturers and that all tends to fall in line with its physical diameter and another comparison tool between tires you may be looking at buying. If i can't find those specs I personally just find it the easiest to measure over all tire diameter between tires that lets say buddies have mounted on their vehicle by measuring across the side of the tire centerline and sighting to the tire on the other end of the axle and get very close that way or use two large carpenter squares across like a huge caliper to do the same thing, gives a guy a good relative comparison to other brands of the same size tire one is contemplating purchasing. Long story short, those 40 inch as listed tires on that jeep are certainly taller then 38.5 inches but I don't have the answer as to what that is, simple enough to remeasure using overall unloaded diameter.

Mud doesn't care how hard or soft a tire is.
