It’s a shame they cut down this ending for the theatrical cut. Conan’s introspection and the symbology of him moving on with his life after achieving his long sought after vengeance really elevated this movie just beyond being a sword, blood, and booby flick.
In a way, Thulsa Doom was right. This is what Nietzsche called the crisis of Nihilism. Once man has “killed” God, how will he know how to orient himself?
what an incredible ending. Usually, especially today all these big films end triumphantly with the hero killing the villain and it is this big extravaganza. Here, it is a somber ending because Conan's life purpose, he thinks, is over. He has completed his quest and now what? The time he reflects what should he do? Only until he burns down the temple he burns his old life and starts a new one as the fully formed Conan. Incredible film !
heros killing the villian with a big extravaganza is not a new concept in film, in fact its been there since the early days of film, whys everyone talking this way
1. Conan saved so many lives here. Every person with a torch was going to go back and kill a parent or authority figure. 2. Even at the end the princess was looking for someone to worship. She bows and gives herself utterly to Conan, who ignores her and walks right past her. Even as a princess she has nothing to offer him.
I thought it meant that Conan wasn't looking for someone to worship for him. That he did what he did not to get respect from others but winning his own battles. Earlier he mentioned to Crom that no one will remember if he was a good man, or bad and that even a god would forget why he was there but all that mattered was two faced a great enemy, win or lose. He took the princess back home in the end, not that he left her there or ignored her.
Seems Conan was just a man that wanted to live his own life, until someone wouldn’t leave him alone. The act of the princess bowing to him was symbolic of her giving in, and his act was to bring her back to those that loved her unconditionally. He wasn’t going to take that from her as it was taken from him. That’s a Leader, not a Narcissist.
@dangeary And the humility he shows besides saving all those cult members lives he could have literally made himself into their god that moment if he wished but did not enslave them like he was once enslaved finally one of the greatest lessons learned was after his crucifixion when Valeria and Subodai risked their own lives to save him he learned there are in fact people who CAN be trusted to do right
I loved this film so much I bought the Basil Poledouris soundtrack. The last track ORPHANS of DOOM /THE AWAKENING is most moving when all Doom followers realise they were mislead.
Another thing that occurred to me as I rewatched this glorious finale: the first time Conan and his band encountered the Princess, they took her by force from Thulsa Doom's temple. This time, Conan gently offers her his hand and she CHOOSES to go with him, which indicates that Doom's spell over her has dissipated . . . or that she has finally reached a point where she can defy the allure of Set. Either way, what a fucking ENDING!!!
@ Mad Dog Kelso Why this movie is so great can always pick something new up. Somebody mentioned on another thread that after killing Thulsa Doom in front of all his followers Conan could've made himself a god to them but without totally meaning to set them free. Between that and what you noticed about offering his hand to the princess think of the humility he actually showed in the moment of his greatest triumph. We know he became King of Aqualonia later on but this makes it so fascinating to imagine what that journey would've looked like.
To be clear though, she accompanied them freely back to the Temple fortress and provided a distraction to the guards to allow Conan to sneak in undetected. It's not clearly shown in some version of the movie though.
The symbolism of going full circle was the big theme in this movie. You see it with the big wheel they made him push endlessly, with the amulet around his neck, with him using his father's broken sword to kill Thulsa Doom, and finally with him swinging the fire in circles in this scene.
IIRC in the director's cut they explained the difference in lighting in that last scene with the temple burning. Apparently it was a wooden mock up (obviously) and at some point early in the morning as they were getting ready for the final burning down sequence someone set it on fire accidentally when they were rigging the pyrotechnics. The directors had to run outside and setup their cameras real quick to get a shot of it before it was totally destroyed. Which is why there is really only one shot of it, when it is completely engulfed.
I never even knew it existed until I saw this literally minutes ago myself, sir😳 It wasn't in the theatrical release version of the film.....not this scene of him and the princess

I first saw this when I was about 12 or 13. Around 2002-2003, I was watching another movie on an old VHS and happened upon this when I woke up in the middle of the night. A lot of stuff was cut out, like the part where he takes the girl at the end. As a kid I never really wondered what he was thinking after killing Doom. Now I know, he’s avenged the death of his parents and his people. He spent his whole life training and picturing the day he’d have Doom’s blood on his hands. He’s achieved that so now what? Does he continue this life of combat? Where he’ll spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder? Or does he settle down, build himself a home, start a family and become an honest hard working man like his father was and pass along the wisdom from his experienced travels?

Perhaps Conan is pondering what Thulsa said to him which is that Thulsa was the wellspring from which Conan flowed and that without Thulsa, Conan would never have been and decides to test the validity of this claim by razing to the ground Thulsa's temple and finds himself still standing which in turn proves Thulsa wrong. Thulsa was the wellspring for Conan's desire for revenge. The shot from behind Conan's shoulder to the people below could easily imply that Conan for all of his brute strength and cunning could assume the authority that Thulsa had. But having been a slave, Conan equally understands the hollowness of authority demonstrated by the prostrating, obedient submissiveness of Osric's daughter.

I know that feeling. Somehow, the 2 short cut scenes from the theatrical version & video releases for many years that were restored for the Director's Cut change the Conan & Subotai characters to a profound degree as well as the picture as a whole. The other is the part where the 2 are preparing for the Battle of the Mounds & talking about their memories of childhood & regrets over their lives of constant fighting & killing. I can't begin to imagine why those scenes were deleted, but it serves to show that, every now & then, a director's restored cut can be a real improvement instead of, as is commonly the case, just a money grab put together for the purpose of getting fans to shell out for one more copy. Most often, you can actually see where the original removals were done for a very good reason.

Thulsa Doom depicted in the movie as a black man with straight hair. Black people haven't straight hair. So Thulsa Doom in essence is a Jew who wants to create a religion upon the ancient ones. Thulsa Doom has two generalsor or lieutenants beside him. Rexor and Thorgrim. One uses a hammer and the other one an axe. They both symbolize Capitalism and Communism. Thulsa Doom kills Conan's family who they are Cimmerians, Aryans in race. Conan later as he seeks for revenge, allies with Subotai who is Japanese and Valeria who is also Aryan. Clearly the meanings of the movie and the story are nationalistic or national socialistic.
Wait! I left some stuff in there!! Aww dang it! In the version I remember , the Princess is not in the ending at all. I figured she was with Subatai heading back to her home. If not, then where is he?? Conan watched Doom kill his family, and he spent his whole life looking for revenge. Doom’s “children” saw him get wacked by Conan, and not a single one lifted a finger. What a bunch of pussies. They were all like, “Well..I guess the party is over. I’ll just put this candle here. “ But they all did put out their torches very safely in the water. Possibly because they knew how flammable the temple was. Fire safety was the first thing Doom taught them, before they got their white robes. . This is really telling of the difference between Liberals and Conservatives. Conan’s family were Conservatives. They made weapons. Lived rurally. Minded their own business. Doom was a snake politician who lied to Liberals. He attacked the Conservative family. Stole their children and weapons. Enslaved them. Then led the hippy like rich children of kings, to do more destruction. They had temples in every city. Even though those cities were disgusting with people living on every street. And one of the Set Priests was a gay man that wanted Conan to bare his body. Sound familiar?? . And the reason so many things get burned down at the end of movies is…the Producers have to tear down all the sets they build when the movie is finished. So, it’s actually CHEAPER to burn them down. And looks great on film. That’s why it’s done so often.

Fire melts steel beams. Riddle diddled.
Talk about a Mandela effect. My 2nd fave movie ever too.
Me after School's out.
Classic film.I always imagined this film is about ancient Iraq.
Gostaria de rever todos os filmes de Conan me envia pra eu poder assistir
Looks like even the damn stone is burning.
Why did they decide to cut this ending?
The Northman would be a fantastic accoutrement to this movie. Man I wished Hollywood would pull their collective heads out of their asses and make more movies like this and The Northman.
To whom would the princess go home to? In a deleted scene her father was murdered by Doom's henchman the king asked them please let me die like a man with a sword in my hands they granted his wish
If it's like a couple of the REH stories of Conan, she would come home to her dead father and assume the throne with Conan as her general, protector and lover.
Then as she grows into her role as Queen, Conan wonderlust will come upon him once more.
@@Wien1938 Yeah that's what I figured too. Conan didn't usually stick around for that long in his younger years.
I saw that deleted scene, but don't recall the king asking for a sword as he was already armed as he tried to fight them off.
Эпично.
I am so glad there was NO final sword fight with False of DOOM
El tenia que hacer mas peliculas de conan para ese tiempo.
La verdad que si. Subi un nuevo video con el resumen de la película completa 😌 espero sea de tu agrado y lo compartas ❤️
The AGOT fandom after the last episode.
Im surprised so much was on fire in a stone Castle?
Chaos part's for the poleaxe... LoL 4:51
when the deity barbarians ransack my empire
Doom's dope house is burned down !! There is new kingdom of snakes you could crushed into icicles pops but dam this must've been deleted clip from the beyond haven't been able to be seen !!
Sin desmerecer el audio latino.
Me quedo con la voz del antiguo narrador.
Very similar to the ending of Apocalypse Now. Both movies were written by the same person.
Pretty impressive outcome considering Crom doesn't give you any bonuses or even an avatar. Then again I suppose Conan is above game rules, considering he IS a god damn avatar.
Crom dam
What a wonderful ending just about the writer's imagination, except the King's instance *Conan marries King Orsic's daugher he rescured SHOULD have been ideal ending, and rest of his campanions got highest post surrounding Connan.... USA
I don't know. When you look at the way the world turned out. Maybe we should have let the crazy old snake king have a crack at it.
Best movie ever made and I will send you to Crom if you disagree !!!!
Conan stopped the Great Proletariat Cultural Revolution
This you can trust (Cimmerian sword).
Trust it in your enemies chest.
Thing i like is Rexor steals Corins sword, and despite it being superior Cimmerian steel, it breaks on him. Almost like the sword didnt want to defend its wielder
@@devon8438 And like Thulsa Doom said, flesh is stronger than steel, and moreover, for Crom WILL is stronger than any metal.
@@jackieollij7434 The more i watch this movie over and over again, the more Crom seems similar to my gods. He isnt obligated to give a shit, we need to give him a reason
@@devon8438 Valor pleases Crom, when finite mortals of flesh and blood go beyond their limitations, prejudices and fears to achieve something greater than them and touch the glory, that's the closest experience to divinity e can have.
Valor pleases you Crom, so grant me revenge!
@@devon8438 Celtic gods were fatalistic and had little sensibility for human affairs.
The third movie never happened 😢
Burning down a stone temple with a little bowl of incense…😂😂😂
Flammable stone, I presume 3:05
Atleast he got a girlfriend at the end so not all was lost 😂😂
Girlfriend? not quite.
he returned the daughter to the king and left to a new life. so yeah, not quite
Oh dear
Se termino el reino del reptiliano
Nonsense It's still here
But they all did put out their torches very safely in the water.
Classic
