51 Tele bass build | DIY | bass guitar | demo linked to hear it in action

- It’s not every day that your boss’s boss asks you to make them a ‘51 tele bass…but that day was not too long ago for me. We came up with a plan and we decided on a swamp ash body, with a Fender roasted maple jazz bass neck that I would modify to make look like a 1951 tele bass neck. The color of the body would be lake placid blue and the whole bass would get a relic treatment to make it look road worn. The tuners were some Fender machines with one Fender Drop D tuner to add just a little pizzaz to the bass. A Lindy Fralin pickup with some vintage electronics would finish it off. I had a great time making this bass and it turned out great. It plays amazing and looks like it's been around the block more than once even though it’s never been out of my shop....yet. In 1951 there was only the slab body P-Bass. The contour body was introduced only in 1954. The first Telecaster basses are from 1968.
