I have many mini dvds that had videoes that i watched on the camcorder lately, but a couple a days ago i tried to watch them again, but the camcorder just said “disk error”. Do you think its a problem with the 20yr old camcorder or the cd and if its the camcorder, do you think your video can help?

I recorder on dvd RW vr mode and finalized the disc. The footage worked to import. Then i recorded ln the disc again and now i cant finalize the footage

You’re gonna need potentially paid software to essentially make a card readable. If you got a Sony Handycam I think there’s software you can download assuming the external or internal DVD player can also write in addition to read

For your MiniDV camcorder you want LifeFlix. If you have more than a few MiniDV tapes, LifeFlix is a life saver. I captured about 70m MiniDV tapes to my Mac. It's so easy and it lets you combine clips and split clips without having to go to all the hassle of iMovie.

It makes no sense whatsoever to convert DVDs to MP4 for archival purposes. The native format of DVD-Video is MPEG-2. It should be ripped - not converted - to MPG or an MPEG-2 container to ensure no quality loss whatsoever. MP4 conversion most assuredly will degrade the already low quality of your DVDs.

@@bbeforee : Magic DVD Ripper is good if you wish to rip commercial discs. It's served me well over the years, though there was maybe one or two discs that it seemed incapable of properly ripping.
For non-commercial discs, Corel Videostudio can quickly rip DVDs as well, and is also handy for editing MPEG-2 footage without any quality loss via Smart Rendering.
