I literally just wrote a paper on these slugs. They're called sacoglossan sea slugs. There are two researchers from Japan that discovered this. It's so fascinating. They think they are able to survive with just their heads because their surface of their skin is covered with a diverse digestive gland. When these slugs eat algae, they keep back the chloroplasts and digest the rest of the algae. From there, photosynthesis occurs and they can harness all of the energy they need from the sun :) You're welcome

My theory on those slugs is that they are essentially repairing damage in the most unique way out there.
When the slugs organs can't function at optimal capacity anymore due to diseases, physical trauma or some other stuff with long term damage they just regrow everything.
You can kinda imagine it like a alcoholic surviving liver cirrhosis but now the liver works at 30% capacity so the alcoholic just rips out his old liver and grows a new one with 100% capacity.
This is just my personal take on why they self decapitate themselfes feel free to tell me your ideas.
Might well be. There are also plants at the shore of the North Sea (Queller) which take in salt but they can only tolerate that for 6 months, so they regenerate from their seeds. It's not quite the same as it's another individual then, though.

If went to a place like death vally in Israel. It's called Mt. Masada and you can climb to the top of the mountain to visit an ancient city that was built there. It overlooks the dead sea and there are ancient roman encampments all around. The air is so dry and pure that people with health problems tend to visit to help themselves. The base of the mountain is maybe 400 meters below sea level.
If any of you wanted to see the eroded Valcano that was millions of years old. It's located in the USA, New Mexico. It's actual name is called Shiprock, a very popular place among native americans.

That volcano is actually called Shiprock, located in New Mexico. It’s actually only a little bit away from where I come from, and I’ve seen it multiple times in real life :D
