Politicians need to consider all points of view to be effective in their mission of governing a diverse society, even liberal ones. The one guiding principle that opportunists share that is most detrimental to public service is self interest. Take the profit out of politics and we remove their motivation. That is why I am interested in the Forward Movement. I think Democracy Dollars will be a big step in accomplishing that goal.

One point i will take issue with however is that the Forward Party is not necessarily "in between" the Democratic and Republican party, or "moderate" as it was framed. Its essentially just as the name describes: not left, not right, forward. Whatever is the best solution that will benefit the most people, is quite progressive of an idea. Not the same thing as being "moderate." I guarantee a TON of lefties AND a ton of trumpies (who are always viewed as the "radicals" will love this idea and this party, because both of those groups cannot stand corruption and are sick of the elites.

    Love this. Everyone knows the system is broken when we see extremists get elected to office across the country, the January 6th attack, and when almost nothing gets done in Congress because of polarization. We need these reforms (open primaries and ranked choice voting) so that politicians don’t feel the need to cater to the extremes and so that we can lower the temperature in our country. Good luck Forward Party and good luck Andrew Yang.

    So isn't the key really the Forward party winning enough seats in the House and Senate to become the balance of power? He's got no chance to become president but even 10 seats would give that party tremendous power.

    • @glentonrichards
      @glentonrichards Před 2 lety +6

      Agreed. Too many people put too much emphasis on winning the White House when just winning a few seats in Congress is a very powerful tool. Imagine 10 moderate Congressmen or Senators from a third party. That could happen with open primaries and RCV which is why very few Dems and Republicans want it to happen.
