Review: NEW LG WashTower All In-One Washer & Dryer - Model WKEX200HBA/WA

  • The model of LG Washer and Dryer all in one unit (Washer Tower) is Wkex200HBA (Black Steel) or the WKEX200HWA (White). LG makes this washer dryer combo in a gas model as well. (WKGX201HBA/WA). They also make a step model with a larger size washer. The larger washer major differences are price +$300, deeper by approx. 2 inches, it ads a few more wash options, and comes in a different color.
As you compare this new lg washer tower to other stackable washer and dryer options. We have shared some of the pros and cons.
Look & Convenience of the new Washer Tower:
    * The new look of this washer and dryer is amazing and outshines all the other options out there. LG has hit this out of the park. Having the control panel combined makes the convenience of this washer people most favorite feature. The solves one of the biggest challenges that a separate washer and dryer has and that is reaching the top controls. Especially, if you are not the tallest person out there. This eliminates the need for a step stool that so many of us have to use when try to control our dryer.
    Capacity:
    * The capacity of this LG Wash Tower is very large for an all in one unit with is another big plus. It compares very well the the traditional front loads that are stacked but it is also more compact in overall external detentions. Capacity on this model is 4.5' cu ft which easily fits a king size comforter.
    Pricing:
    * The price of this new washtower is comparable to many top of the line front load washer and dryer options. With the traditional front load washer and dryers in order to stack them you need to purchase a stack kit. to connect them together. The older smaller all in one unit does come in quit a bit less but features are far from that of this unit.
    Usability/ Flexibility:
    * This is one of the cons to this new unit. If you want flexibility there is a limitation here. For example if the washer broke and you needed to replace it you can not just replace the washer but would be required to replace the entire unit. Vs. the traditional stacked front load washer and dryer that would not be the case. Also, because this unit is unique it might cause more problems and be more complicated for a technician to fix.
    Thanks for watching.

Kudos to LG for putting the filter in an easy to reach place. Not so with my whirlpool, had to un-stack and disassemble the machine to get at it. A mere two hours later it was cleaned out. It was clogged with stuff and the machine was throwing errors.

With the Samsung Bespoke line traditional front loader. The stacking kit includes a wire harness, that has the washers controls take over for both machines. The filter "drawback" applies to a lot of frontloaders, not just the LG. The LG Washtower can be separated for replacement, (unlike the unitized machine,) like a separate stacked unit. (Reminder make sure all shipping bolts are removed before use upon delivery.)

I just bought one this past weekend for $1,400 out the door. I really like it and so does my wife who has found a new sense of purpose in doing laundry, lol. I do worry about replacement when either the dryer or washer fails but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Hopefully this machine will last at least 10 years.

Talk to a certified electrician about whole house surge protection systems. Also ask them about more protection where the device or circuit it’s being wired on. Samsung board products are not so great with power surges. I see a lot of Samsung TVs and Fridges on the market place with only board issues due to this problem. Not saying this is a Samsung product but I’m sure the concern is the same.

Depth was an issue for me--this machine is not as deep as many others with large capacity.
As for the repair issue, yes, if say the washer breaks beyond repair, you have to replace the whole unit, but that's often the case with stacked units--if the washer breaks beyond repair, you often have to replace both because you can't find a new washer that is compatible for stacking with your dryer.

One thing I didn’t hear in this video is no talks about heat pumps. Does the wash tower have an option for a heat pump like the manual stackable ones do? A heat pump is great for me and my power bill. I understand everyone else has their own needs. My steam LG washer also has that front port. It’s the filter for the water pump. You can use the black rubber hose first to drain just in case you have a little bit of water then take the black filter out to clean it.

Also, what heat level are you using on the dryer? Hotter = faster. Make sure the dryer lint filter is clean & your dryer vent through to the outside of your house is clear.

The traditional one is puny and I would always be doing laundry. I couldn’t reach the controls on the stackable, but this was perfect. (Homage to the Three Bears.) Yes. I’m short. Sadly, Lowe’s didn’t have it and won’t until October. Poor planning. I would have purchased it on the spot. By the way, the smart phone features tickled my fancy. I've just got it so not that many loads but it is a bit finicky about spin compared to any other washer I've ever had. It just won't let itself get anywhere near making the noise that gets one running to stop that thing. 😁 it tries for some time to get the load to redistribute itself before giving up and simply Waits patiently for me to look into why it said 14 minutes for an hour or so. 😆

It most certainly does. I attempted multiple times to use the washer but as soon as it goes into spin mode… It starts shaking like crazy and making my whole floor feel as though there’s an wrath quake going on. Not to mention the bouncing side to side, making it move forward. I checked the floors and they were leveled so I’m not sure what else it can be.

I am an appliance technician, it is nightmare to do service of this Wash Tower. Customers, prepare a big money on repair if anything happened (minimum $330-350 if it minor repair) if anything serious $600-800. I would not recommend to buy such product. Only if you my enemy

Why is it different the man any other machine? Drum, element, pump. Seems like it would be similar to any other machine

I do not recommend LG wash tower. It is just a gimmick feature since they had nothing in house to come with this year. It even has a back plastic cover since it is nothing but two units screwed together with a single control panel.

With an all in one, if one breaks, you have to throw the entire thing out. As a rule of thumb, don't buy anything Samsung makes. It's all overpriced crap.

Capacity is better, looks better, but costs more, breaks more, can't clean for sh**, traditional wins everlaundry. Runs for years and years to come... take the ego out of laudry, buy traditional.
