What you're seeing in this video is one of the important processes in well drilling. Taking apart the drill stem and putting it back together takes about two hours and is often necessary to check or change the bit when drilling the borehole.

Taking the pipe out is necessary at times to check or change the drilling bit. Sometimes you have to change bits because of the formations you run into and other times your checking how much clay has stuck to the bit which was the case this particular time.
