So here we are, the long promised "Griffith Did Nothing Wrong" video. Casca certainly took her revenge on this one as it had a few holdups, but here we are at long last. In this video, we take a look at Griffith's character, as well as his relationship with Guts in Berserk. What's wrong with following your dreams, right?

As horrible as it was, people would have actually been able to see where Griffith was coming from when he sacrificed the band. However, there is no excuse for what he did to Casca

Great video. I want to note that, while it's true that most members of the band of the Hawk would die for Griffith, they would make that decision by themselves. It becomes different if Griffith forces that decision upon them. It's just a small detail but I think it can help reinforce why Griffith was in the wrong here.
Except that Griffith manipulated by seemingly OMNISCIENT eldritch beings into believing that the Hawks did consent to the sacrifice in the knowledge that the God Hand could read their thoughts.

Egalitarian detected. It was in Griffith's power to sacrifice the band for his values, and he did it. Suggestions there was anything wrong to this is based on egalitarian/Christina/decadent/slave morality.

He killed countless people... never once did he say what he would do as king except kill more people. And then there’s what he did to casca... while killing the rest of his friends and followers.

I feel like I've always been a bit more cynical on the topic of Griffith than a lot of other folks, whether they be analysts trying to understand him or laypeople shitposting or falling under his spell, so it's nice to see someone else call him out for the shit heel he always was. The God Hand gave him all that hype of "Oh once you do this you'll lose your humanity" and everyone interprets that like it means he's an emotionless husk after the eclipse, but no, what he did to Casca would not and *could not* have been done by someone who felt nothing for anyone. Femto was *always* there, it just took the God Hand giving Griffith the power to act without consequence to bring Femto to the surface.
In other words, Griffith did *everything* wrong.
Berserk not having a well made modern anime adaptation is one of the biggest sins of the whole damn industry. I'm sure millions of fans would even be willing to donate money for it to be made. I sure would. And seeing Griffith's point of view is a testament to how amazing the writing of Miura-sensei truly was. Understanding somebody does not justify their actions. But it sure does make for an insanely good story.
I believe Griffith and Femto are not the same person and that Griffith is dead, soulless, and maybe a meat puppet.
Indeed, its mentioned in the ch-83 page 11 and ch-88 page 10 , some brainless bozos doesn't even know there are two different characters, in one body, whole Griffith life span was manipulated by his destiny tha has to happen!..
As far as I'm concerned. The Hawks owe Griffith too much for what he did. The dude SACRIFICE HIS OWN BOOTY. HIS BOOTY HIS CHEEKS. Would YOU be willing to sacrifice your cheeks for friends to have better odds in a war? Griffith did Nothing Wrong lol (Except for the Casca part.)
So basically...because Berserk happens because lack of comunications of each other feelings and misunderstanding?

In a narrative sense, Griffith sacrificing his band makes sense for his character, BUT raping Casca was just petty and cements him as a complete monster. I agree with you.
I wonder if that's Griffith finally doing what he wanted. Like, I'm sure he knew Casca loved him before Guts. I'm sure he kept himself single, since his dream needed him to marry someone for political gain and nobility.
So... Maybe all he wanted was to do Guts and Casca... But then Guts left so he resents him. Hence, he acts on impulse again, "taking" casca for himself and getting back at Guts for his perceived slight.
The band of the hawk fought for Griffith and were willing to die for his world.
Griffith only sped that up.
Even if this didn't happen they would have been hunted for the rest of their lives and likely be killed anyway.
The thing with casca was only to spite guts which is why Griffith went off the rails.
I don't think Griffith particularly had anything against her but just used her to harm guts.
Still probably the worst thing he has done but by then he was femto.

Was out of the BoH without writing them, chasing dreams or smtg
Killed his foster father
Scared Casca
Almost killed some of his companions in the BoH
He is an enemy to the beautiful utopia that is Falconia and that is totally not suspicious
Killed a honest inquisitor
Killed misunderstood monsters just cause they wanted to see his tattoo
Doesn't want people to give brofists/caresses without his consent

I'm not sure if you've ever read any Homestuck, but I just wanna say given the title of this series, I'm surprised there's not an episode for Vriska Serket. If you haven't read it, I'm not gonna push it on you, but I will say it's definitely not what I expected when I got into it. Anyways great channel, always good to find more interesting things to listen to while I work!

I really wish they'd do a proper adaptation of Berserk. The 90s series is really good and very pretty, but its budget problems are also very obvious. But the trilogy of movies are just garbage, and the newer CG series is embarrassing to even look at. We need a good, 2D animated series adapting it. A redo more like how the modern Jo-Jo's series' are done.
I actually go with the opposite takeaway on if griffith did anything wrong. But that's not based on the same source. I read the manga, and without going into any spoilers. Later in the story it very genuinely appears that even if griffiths goals are self centered, he's ultimately someone who by circumstance if not intent causes good things to happen for most people.
In my view the fact that griffith has to be tortured to a fate worse then death, after losing his only friend, and even at that point would rather kill himself then be a burden, let alone harm the band of the hawk, only to then be practically brainwashed into accepting that this was the only choice. Proves that griffith did nothing wrong in the sense that no human being could be expected to make a more upstanding choice.
As far as what griffith's actions in the eclipse after being turned into femto. I have a really hard time believing that he had any real agency over what happens. It doesn't fit his character in later arcs to be vindictive, and as fucked up as it is, it seems like even that might have been 100% necessary to advance his goals.
He raped casca because he blames guts for the suffering he went through after banging the princess. Before he tries to kill himself and finds the behelit, he tries to choke out guts but is way too weak because he's just skin and bone atp. And when he rapes casca he only stares at guts, as he's doing it to punish guts for almost making his dream unattainable

When I first saw this I was confused because I thought Griffith was a woman lol.
Everybody always says what Griffith did wrong but I never hear anyone mention that guts technically ruined everything.
When i discover the serie and see griffith in intro i though the episode of griffith got deleted and i miss that out… now i know it was about to come… anyway the rest of the serie is a massive underrated gold pepit, especially bondred one, so i know i can expect a good one for this cursed video that causality just won’t stop delaying!

17:52 this always annoyed me about the anime. the timeline is
Golden Age->Black Swordsman->Lost Children->Conviction->Millenium Falcon->Fantasia
this is the Black Swordsman but Griffith technically hasn't become King yet officially as his marriage to princess charlotte and his coranation are still in planning and he only rules the land/city of Falconia built on the capital of the midland since the end of the millenium falcon arc, which is way later than the Black Swordsman. at this point Griffith was still bootleg Batman chilling in some pocket dimension

Naaaaaaah GRIFFITH is a precursor to FEMTO, & thus FEMTO is the direct result of GRIFFITH'S selfishness. FEMTO is literally & figuratively the "demon /dark" side of Griffith. Either way Griffith/Femto is a horrible selfish person, yes he had concessions about his actions but none empathetic / moving enough to sway his sociopathic behavior nor dull his ambition.

Femto is really just what Griffith wants to be, or his pinnacle form. We can see this both in a physical and mental sense, but primarily focusing on mental here, Femto is completely(as we know at least) devoid of emotion. This meaning that Griffith could now go on for the rest of his life or kinghood without a care of anything bad caused by it or anything bad he has to do for it, which while he was Griffith became a problem as we see with Guts leaving him. Guts leaving him destroyed him emotionally which in turn almost destroyed his dream. Now as Femto nothing could destroy him emotionally like that, including Guts who he cared for more than his own dream. Basically I say all this to say Femto is Griffith they’re not separate identities so yes Griffith did a lot wrong lol
