- A complete PageSpeed Insights Tutorial for achieving maximum performance on your site.
I accidentally became somewhat of an expert on PageSpeed Insights on my quest to find a the FASTEST platform (site generator + theme) for web sites for my next couple of side projects which will be targeting organic google search traffic as an acquisition channel. So I thought I would share that information with everyone.
If this is not something you would like to see on my channel let me know in the comments. Thanks!

Where can I find the "3 ways to speed test many URLs" video?
Keep up the good work!
I decided to break that up into 3 separate videos and then to create a compilation of those. So far I have 2 ways done. The best one I think is Unlighthouse: czcams.com/video/SMcvilDIDpg/video.html But, you can also check out this one if you are into Google sheets and Apps Script: czcams.com/video/UJreK1K3wRg/video.html

3:20 Thanks for the info, it's super helpful! 🤔 Just one question: my site's live performance is passing, but the last 28 days of data show it's failing. Meanwhile, my competitors' sites are the complete opposite. What's going on?
One likely explanation might be geography. The live lighthouse test is run in North America, but user experience data is collected from all over the world. Where is your site hosted vs. where is your competitors site hosted? Since Crux report is collected from all over if your competitors site happens to be hosted close to their audience and NOT in North America then their Crux data would look great while lighthouse results would be terrible and vice versa. You might want to check out a tool like webpagetest.org which can run lighthouse from multiple locations all over the world. My next video will be a tutorial on that tool so stay tuned for that.
At 15:00 you mention a video to optimize any site but I'm not seeing any link for it. I'm trying to optimize a non-wordpress site. Thanks, love the content so far!
I'm working on that video right now. I have a couple more videos a little further along than that one though I will release first so I estimate the video you are looking for will be out in the next 2-3 weeks!
Hi Troy, thanks for providing this video. The Core Web Vitals has been a challenge for me, and I am looking for a way to get rid of the message "Core Web Vitals Assessment: Failed". Please can you help?
You can try posting the pagespeed test result link here and I will take a quick look to see anything quick.
Sir how to manage Javascript from third party apps and this url not found in theme.liquid file
Thanks for your question! Is this a Shopify theme and third party plugin you are having trouble with? If so it's probably best to ask the theme and third party app providers for help.
But, I can offer 2 suggestions that may be helpful:
1. Is PageSpeed Insights pointing this error out? If so you can click on that link for the failing audit as I showed in the video for guidance on how to fix your specific issue.
2. In general outside of using PageSpeed Insights, for managing third-party JavaScript, make sure the script URLs are correct and the files exist. You can use browser dev tools to check for 404 errors. Consider using script defer/async attributes to improve load times once you fix the 404.
hello. I have an issue. The LCP only shows an issue on the mobile version of my website. How can fix this. I don't have a developer. I maintain my website. I am a Novice. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you
What is your LCP? How far off from green (2.5 seconds) is it? What is PageSpeed Insights suggesting you could do to improve it? The most common problem with LCP is large images so if you have images on that page you could try compressing them and use a modern format like webp. Even the largest sized images shouldn't be more than 20k-30k bytes maybe 50k bytes max. All the other usual LCP offenders are a bit hard to fix for a novice, but if you send me the pagespeed test link maybe I can take a glance at it.
If that's the case, why do many major sites consistently fail pagespeed insights including core vitals? Correlation != causation. Especially when pagespeed insights by default uses a throttled 4g connection off an emulated moto g power
Yeah, speed is only one ranking factor and definitely not the most important one. Major sites with a ton of domain authority will not worry about core web vitals until they have to. And if their content isn't adding to the bottom line, they almost never have to.
Hello. Can you tell me why my page speed jumps up and down constantly.
Hard to say without knowing more detail about your site. How frequently do you test and notice speed fluctuating? A typical cause for this is "shared hosting" where your site is on the same server as many others and when traffic is high the site might slow down at that time. Who is it hosted with? Which plan?
my host is siteground free plan
What about for Shopify website ?
That's a tough one. You don't have as much control. You can try to disable all the apps / plugins you don't absolutely need. Also, in the PageSpeed audit, if you dig into the details there might be breadcrumbs leading you to a particular app that is slowing your site down. If there are other alternatives to that app you could use you could try switching.
I was hoping this video would get into the guts of how to speed up your website, installing a caching is pretty basic advice
Yeah I had planned on putting more on that in there but I ran out of time and decided to put more of that content into future videos. You can probably tell since even the cache part was rushed. Stay tuned. Two future videos may be of interest to you, one where I dive into the guts of fixing a particular issue with a site and the best tool I have found to help with that so far, and another where I show how we can skip digging into the guts completely (in a way).
