Tbf it also partly had to do with Liu Kang being one of the souls that controls him, that’s why his soul is shown as well. And in his Mk9 ending he’s taken over by King Jared and reunites with his wife Sindel and daughter Kitana, so technically Ermac becomes a vessel for Jared it’s not rly Ermac

I love that upon being freed from Shao Kahn's control he, by his own freewill became good and not only taught Kenshi, but also guided Liu Kang's spirit and helped free the heroes from Quan Chi's control. What a G!!
In the new timeline literally his only saving grace is who good his costumes looked in MK9 lol
Don't forget the thing with Sindel's former husband and Kitana's father, King Jerrod's soul being in Ermac according to his MK9 ending, which can be considered semi-canon.
One thing about Ermac in MKX. He's super fun and also really, really good. Story wise, everything went downhill in Netherrealm era sadly. But gameplay wise he was better every time. Honestly i expected Ermac to return in MK 11 as DLC, he's fan favorite after all.

I'll never forget watching the Ermac ending on CZcams and reading a comment that referred to him as "soul gatorade". That dude had such a way with words.

I think the best way to redeem Ermac as a character would be to make him Skarlet's rival. Both are amalgamations of fallen warriors created by Shao Kahn, one of souls and one of blood (you could combine Skarlet's origin stories by making the orphan girl a vessel for blood magic), both are extremely powerful canonically but are almost always shafted by the main plot, both are wildcards with a tendency to break free of their masters. (Also both are red-clad ninjas who originated as rumors.)
Maybe Shao Kahn keeps them from becoming too powerful by pitting them against each other. Could you imagine if they figured it out and decided to team up? They could be the most dangerous power couple in the MK universe...
Not sure how I feel about that especially when Skarlet willingly did bad things while Ermac was under a spell being used by Shao Kahn and when Kenshi freed him in the original timeline he willingly chose to redeem himself and join the heroes.
it doesn't matter what you try to do with the character if the core problem isn't fixed and Ermacs problem is that he became a jobber,to fix that is to simply make him win fights,so just give him a chapter
I don't see what they would be rivals over, like... what their goals would be and why would that put them at odds. Especially once Shao Kahn is out of the picture. Seems forced just because they're both red ninja rumours. It's like putting Scorpion against Tanya just because they both wear yellow and (at one point) both had white eyes. The direction Deception took Ermac in is far more interesting.

Left out the most important detail. One of those souls in Ermac’s body, and the dominant one that informs his personality in the 3D era, is that of Jerrod, Kitana’s father. It’s why he turned face.
The Jerrod idea wasn't really around until mk9.

My favorite character by far. I like his telekinetic combat style more than anything else in MK.
Regardless of what NRS did to him in terms of story, they gave him respect in gameplay.

Well Johnny Cage seems to have fought Kenshi and won in the MK 1 (2023) cutscene that was teased. So some respect was shown to Johnny, but it seems Kung Lao could hold his own to Bi-Han aka Sub-Zero for a bit in the MK 1 (2023).
But unsure for Reptile and Ermac...

Ermac has always been cool to me. I personally like the version of him where one of his souls is Jerrod and with the power of his will, gains complete control over the whirlwind of souls within and thus; control of the Ermac Body. Imagine where they could go with that story-wise. Like, oh...I dunno...teaming up with Kitana to defeat Shao Khan (and possibly Sindel; depends on if she is still brainwashed...or just pure evil...thanks NRS...)! But this is NRS so, of course, Ermac will forever be fodder despite his immense powers. Case in point; one of my favorite scenes ever involving Ermac is when Takeda tries to read Ermac's mind(s) but is overwhelmed with pain by "the chaos" within Ermac. This was such a great scene. Go back and look. Takeda is genuinely shaken by this. He is struggling to speak and even his combat stance is shakey as he tries to compose himself. His signature cocky attitude is nowhere to be seen. Takeda. Is. Afraid. To me, this was a telling scene where Ermac would defeat Takeda as Takeda has never fought an opponent like Ermac before and would need to seek out his father, Kenshi, to help him hone his powers and defeat Ermac in their rematch...but no. Through the immaculate powers of "Out With The Old, In With The New"; Takeda defeats Ermac with the same difficulty he would a common thug. He even makes a quip upon victory while forgetting an incident prior to the fight that would cause PTSD, but nah. What a wasted moment for some more character development for everyone's favorite Kombat Kid.
Or maybe, there is an inner struggle with the good souls within Ermac and the evil souls, and this causes Ermac to split in two, one Ermac having King Jerrod as the main soul and the other being, for example, Quan Chi.

Imagine Onaga-Ermac being the final boss, with both his dragon abilities and Ermac's powers! And regular Ermac could have cool mirror dialogues based on that!

That is likely because the same wrestler winning over and over would be boring. The point of my statement is that the most logical winner is not the one who usually wins in Pro Wrestling. For example, Andre the Giant would wash most wrestlers, but Hogan is allowed to defeat him. Andre was also never allowed to win any Japanese wrestling titles for the same reason. The physically superior wrestler is not the winner

They had John Cena (who is possibly the biggest star in wrestling) loss to THE MIZ in the main event of WrestleMania. Ermac (and specifically, UMK3/MKT ermac) is one of my favorite mk characters of all time. Mostly because you needed to unlock him in umk3 to use him (a pseudo secret character), and because his combos do so much damage, he can easily do full life combos in the corner.
It's funny, because when umk3 came out in arcades and info wasn't as readily available back then, he didn't seem that awesome to me. But if you now look up how to use him and match videos of him, oh man.
Dawgie, you made an ERRor! The myth was born because of MK II arcade cabin service menu (only available to owners/service technicians). It contains some statistical info as well as primitive error reporting. Among stats such as the number of Goro's wins and losses there was a "mysterious" entry: ERMACS. Some kid must have had a quick glance at the screen of a working tech and figured out its a plural or character named Errmac. In reality this is just a short hand for Error Macro (in other words an error counter or something like that; macro is just an ol'school hack for what's just an inlined function). When devs got a smell of the rumor they had their fun with it and started putting other funky but non functional stuff there.
That's what I thought. There was a rumour in the first about scorpion being red.. I feel the two rumours have been merged in his explanation

I think it’d be a good series to find the strongest iteration of characters like over the years of MK when was Reptile at his strongest and explain why.
I would want to see Ermac in the next game as he is Jarrod like in his ending, but this time he has united the souls like a true king after Shang Tsung left Ermac for dead. Jarrod would lead the souls to the soul pit, where their body heals, resulting in their body reforming to be a perfect fusion of Jarrod and Ermac. This leads to him seeking out his family, easily winning a few fights to discover their location, eventually saving Kitana and Sindel from Shang Tsung's control in Shang Tsung's new lair The three would then lead the others in a rebellion against Shang Tsung, with Jarrod/Ermac using his souls to keep Shang Tsung from being aware of them, by tricking him into believing they were obeying his rule as they free the other heroes from his control. Ermac/Jarrod would naturally have a few more wins under his belt, until he faces Shao Kahn in order to let the heroes get to Shang Tsung. This would be the ultimate showdown as Ermac/Jarrod would call him out on his cowardice and cheap tactics that he used to kill him, before declaring that he will not hold back as well as promising to save his kingdom. The two would clash in brutal yet bloody Kombat, with Shao Kahn taunting the fallen king about taking his wife and daughter, enraging the fallen king, who in turn uses all of Ermac's power to paralyze Shao Kahn. Ermac/Jarrod would then float up to him and in a fit of rage, tear all of his limbs off with his telekinesis, finishing by violently tearing off Shao Kahn's head. I think that definitely would redeem Ermac and the fallen king Jarrod, instead of constantly being the punching bags of NRS.

I also hate how they literally made him enemies with Jax and Jacqui in the new timeline for no reason since this was not the case in the original timeline. Another thing I hate is how far too many ignorant people think the MKX ladder ending is canon or the intro dialogues or krypt being canon (despite the devs confirming all of these things being non canon on their Twitter years ago) while also ignoring how contradicting they are to the main storyline and not to mention that Shang Tsung was taken from the past during MK1 when he was still old and before Shao Kahn sacrificed Shang to Sindel.
Lastly I really despise how they finally gave him a cool look in MK11 and waste his design in the krypt. If it were up to me I would’ve replaced Cassie and Jacqui with Ermac and Smoke instead.

3D era had such great and underrated lore I'd take that over the new timeline any day.
The 3D era's build up from Deadly Alliance to the events in Armageddon will always be god tier storytelling in my opinion. Blaze dropping the truth bomb in MKA's Konquest is fairly memorable if you catch what he's referencing. "Tapping into the very forces that make reality possible" is likely referring to the Kamidogu and Shinnok's Amulet as these were used to split the One Being and therefore create the realms, Onaga is reborn during the events of Deadly Alliance which also take place during Deception's konquest, and these events are again referenced in Armageddon, because Blaze was kidnapped to guard Onaga's dragon egg it was mistaken as a sign to awaken Daegon too early, you help Blaze get his memories back during Deception's konquest so that he can get back to awaking Taven. The way they linked up these three games is amazing to me. Hell, even in Ermac's Deception ending it's implied that he knew Armageddon was coming
This was amazing. It is sad how NRS continue to job so many good character. Ermac, reptile, barake, rain, mileena and so many more. No one from out world should lose to someone like Stryker... Mileena lost to him and ermac. And it's like how does a regular police officer. Stand a good chance against a ethereal assassin and a thousand soul in one ninja?

If Ermac returns in the future Mortal Kombat they need to design his costume better like give him a shaolin monks design cause that was my favorite Ermac design.
His Shaolin Monks design is just a low-poly version of his Deception costume.

The only way I could see Striker beating Ermac is if Striker threw a grenade and blew up Ermac’s body and Ermac’s body is a container that holds the 1,000 souls. Once the container or body is destroyed, it releases the 1000 souls. Also, like you said, since Shinnock was defeated, nobody was maintaining air, max body, which probably made his body the container of the souls a lot weaker.

Honestly, I'm making an MK fan game with Raiden as the final boss, and Ermac so far was the only character besides Liu Kang that made sense to beat Raiden one on one to me with no strings attached. Every other character either had to trick him or team up to take him down, that's how powerful Ermac used to be in the Midway Era. As they often said, "We are many, you are but one". Ermac should be god tier, especially at full power, they are a thousand souls in one body, living in perfect harmony and with the brain power to match it, they have ungodly reflexes and their telekinesis has been confirmed to be the power of some of those souls. They shouldn't job so easily, especially since it's been known that they can reform, why not turn them face again and have them slaughter every bad guy they meet until they're stopped by the BBEG?

I think a really good concept for a MORTAL KOMBAT game, isn't just a standard fighting game or an open world game, but a little bit of a mixture of both. It could be called MORTAL KOMBAT: REALMS OF REDEMPTION, in a sense of playing the good guys and sometimes the bad guys you could play an entire story for every single realm get new character endings meet new characters for each realm and see what each team and character is really like!

Cool fact: in the mobile game (mk mobile) there is a character called classic ermac and if he dies he explodes and takes some of the opponent's health this ability is called error macro referring to ermac's origin.
