    Thank you so much for this recipe Mary! It is such a winner!!! We just finished this meal and everyone is raving. My husband thought adding a slice of cheese would make it more like what he remembered from his childhood. I am also curious to try adding some finely diced green bell pepper as well. These are WAY better than what I remember from my childhood (from a can) and we’ll definitely be keeping it in the rotation. We could even modify it with crumbled tempeh for our vegan family members. Keep these types of recipes coming Mary!!! You’re hitting it out of the park!

    Hi Mary! I can’t wait to try this recipe. I love a good sloppy Joe! Since ivstarted making my own hamburger buns last year, my family have become bun snobs! 😂 Only homemade for them! BTW, have you used beef cheeks? I’m wondering about the taste and texture, as well as recipes using this meat. My family owned an 80 acre farm when I was growing up and we raised our own beef, pork and chicken, but we never used the beef cheek. I’m not sure why we didn’t. My dad said we used everything except the moo and if he could have figured out how we would have used that, too! 😂😂 Maybe they mixed it in with the ground beef and I just didn’t know. Thanks for this recipe! ❤️

      Hi Jackie, that’s a great question. I have never been able to find them but I have heard that they are actually quite tasty when cooked correctly…and can even be used to make bone broth. I’ll look more diligently for them and see what I can find and try to do a recipe. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️

    Hi Mary!
    TFS information on the single Cook top. It's available as you said and more reasonable than I thought. Cuisinart is my personal favorite. Very reliable and well made.
    BTW, though I also use my hands to mix, there is a meat masher utensil sold at most dollar and Walmart stores that doubles as a cold temperature rice separator when making fried rice. I just purchased........ looking forward to trying. It's said to be efficient and a time saver.

    Hi Mary, thank you for the sloppy joes recipe! I followed your recipe with the exception of the beef. I used venison mixed with pork fat about 80/20. It was very good and we could taste the venison as opposed to when you use the canned mix with beef you can only taste the tomato and saltiness of the mix. This recipe will be made again and again! Very good 👍🏻 ❤️

      @MarysNest  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Elizabeth, great question. I usually buy one that is organic at my local grocery store H-E-B. But I have seen that Walmart also sells in organic ketchup and that may be easier for you to find. However, if you want you can make the ketchup that I share in my fermented ketchup video and simply refrigerate it rather than ferment it …and… You’ll have homemade ketchup! ❤️🤗❤️

    Looks delcious.I got a job in the the online grocery department of Walmart. I started on Wednesday. Most difficult task is lifting heavier items. Everything else is easy. Usually have to go in earlier because Mom works and earlier shift. She works in the liquor department as she hasn't been able to be a regular cashieer for a while now. Her shift is an hour earier this week so I'll have to wait 3 hours to start work instead of the usual two. She usually goes home after her shift and has to come back to pick me up. I've been falling asleep arouund dinner time.

    Off topic but trying to get an answer
    Question:
    I have read to spread rice out on a cookie sheet and bake it to kill bugs. Cool and store in vacume sealed containers.
    Problem:
    Time and tempature is not consistent within the differing places I have researched.
    Could you shed any light on this?
    Also, would you add moisture absorbers to a vacume sealed container, Mason jars, or is that overkill?
    I want to store up but do not need massive amounts so Mason Jars are right for my needs.
    Do you have a recipe for soft sour dough loaf bread and rolls?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Rebecca, Great question. Would small Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers meet your need? They Will block out all of the oxygen and kill any eggs or bugs that would be in the rice. As to heating it and then putting it in a mason jar… I am not sure about that. I have never tried that. I’m hoping someone else might chime in. And if you did heat it and then put it in a mason jar and you sucked out all the air, I’m just not sure if you would need an oxygen absorber or simply maybe something to absorb potential moisture that could eventually get into the jar which isn’t really a perfect seal. I wish I had a better answer. I would contact the Utah State University extension service. They are experts in food storage. Love, Mary

    I live in SW Louisiana, but I'm only about 1 hr. 15 minutes from an H E B in Lumberton. I think it would be worth the trip at least once a month to find things I can't get in my town or in the town that is larger in Louisiana, and about the same distance, and where the stores are more pricey.
    Still no tax on food in Texas, correct!?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Cindy, I definitely think it's worth it to travel to an HEB if you can. You are correct - most food is not taxed in Texas. Here is the info from the Texas Comptroller's Office: ...flour, sugar, bread, milk, eggs, fruits, vegetables and similar groceries (food products) are not subject to Texas sales and use tax. Tax is due, however, on non-food items such as paper, pet, beauty and hygiene products; clothing; books; and certain edible items. Hope this helps. Love, Mary

    Great to see a channel a bit more focused on healthier meat (organic) cause all the lady`s saying is true.
    In my country we are not very custom to eating livers hearths etc, some do, but a lot simple wont eat it, i`m 1 of those.. it`s a problem between the ears, cause we should make use of the animal sacrifice the best we can. So respect to people eating the organs, i just cant yet.
    But if were to find out some1 would make me food and hiding stuff in there i normally wouldn't eat, i would be very pissed, don't think its a good idea to do that secretly when the eater is unaware.
    But that's just my honest opinion , beside that, great video.

    • @josephrice6807
      @josephrice6807 Před 2 lety +2

      She explains in the video but grass finished means the cow is raised eating grass from beginning to end. Some grass fed cows are given corn and wheat products before butchering to raise their fat content but as Mary says it means they won't have as much CLA and other nutrients as grass finished. This is why grass finished beef is usually leaner than mass produced beef. Hope this helps.
