Bondy I think the real reason Mel did not go Destiny's event because she did not want to run into Martell. I think it was around that time Mel had issues getting her stuff from Martell and he had her stuck in the driveway. That is when Mel did that Live and exposed the pregnancy. It was around October this episode was filmed and she did that Live. Even her son exposed that Martell did not want to give Mel her stuff and she was crying later in episode.
And Mel got that from his mother about the pregnancy and know it's a boy !
