- I broke the one rule. I helped a chick that was too weak to hatch.

A boy found a butterfly's cocoon in his garden one day. Next day, he notice that a small opening had appeared. For several hours, he watched patiently while the butterfly struggled to force itself out through the little hole. Then it stopped struggling, almost as if it could go no further.
Deciding to help the butterfly, the boy used a pair of scissors to snip the remaining bit of the cocoon and the butterfly emerged easily.
Something was rather strange though. The butterfly had a swollen body and shrivelled wings. The boy continued to wait expactantly, hoping that at any moment the butterfly's wings would expand to support its body and the body would contract.
Neither event happened. In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and deformed wings, never able to fly.
What the boy in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the resultant struggle required for the butterfly to get out are Nature's way of forcing fluid from the butterfly's body into its wings so that it is ready for flight after achieving freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in life.

The problem is that humans are impatient creatures and can care too much. We hate to see something struggle so we try to stop the struggle no matter the reproductions. That is what makes humans unique. Animals follow the rules, they eat, reproduce and die but humans don't accept that. We won't accept that, we will do anything to try ans change that, to make our lives more exciting. Why else do you think humans started farming? We couldn't be bothered with the hustle of hunting so instead made it easier. Their is one phrase for what I just said. Natural Selection!

It started with the Light. Through the dark tomb i had found myself woken up to it. It was in this very moment that my being yearned to be on the other side of my encasement. My body numb was still numb from my slumber; I tried moving the parts of myself that i could muster, hearing the foundation begining to give. However, the tomb fought back. I pushed again, and again with the full extent of my strength i found and for what seemed to me as a lifetime of struggle, ive only managed to break open just enough for a glimpse of my own cruel dissapointment. My hope just right out of my reach.
' this might be the end' i felt it in my blood as i grew weary of pushing against fate. My curiosity for the outside may have not been enough to pull me through to the the outside. I was tired already, and im afraid, not stubborn enough to be otherwise.
A few more moments went by i grew more and more still.

the foundation began to give and what was of my tomb has started to crumble and peel away from my being. A higher power has come to take me to the light.
It took me in gently, slowly, and with precision. It felt larger than me. Indescribably larger. I knew just by its grip on me that it could do more than what it was currently doing. I was confused, and frightened by it but it also felt gentle against my being too. As much as i was pulled by the light i was also pulled by its grip to the outside.
I took a breath of the air outside and opened my eyes and it was bright. So bright that i closed my eyes and chose to be back in the darkness but my body felt... warm much warmer than it was inside. My feet touch the ground and I realized that i was feeling the light in its full glory. Finaly, opening my eyes for good fully acclimating to the light I felt the higher being on me as it moved a small portion of itself a top of mine and carefully brushing the rest of the bits of what was once my tomb off of me.
I was given a second chance at life by this higher being and for whatever reason, in my spirit, my body, my soul i felt at home.

Bless you for helping. Sometimes they do need help. I help mine after 30+ hours, they are mine to help so no one should say don't. Yes there is a time you really shouldn't. But there's that window you have or then you lose them when they could have been given a chance at life. As humans it's our decision to help or not, to make them strong by giving that little help they need.

I have hatched quail, 2 in the first batch. One hatched 2 days early and the other did not even crack the egg. It was cheeping but it didn't hatch so my mom cracked the egg open,

Hatching day is here. I use all my might to break out of the shell, but only a little hole cracks open. I try so hard to break more, but the shell is so small, i can't move. I knew i was gonna die, so closed my eyes. Hours later, i feel more air on my back. More air than the window. Then more, and more, and more! And finally, my bottom shell comes off, and i see the light, but I'm still stuck in the top egg shell. I couldn't stretch, which was upsetting. Finally, something pulls me out of my shell. Freedom! At last i see the light up close, and a strange creature looking at me with an odd object facing me. The creature gives me loads of kisses, and returns me to my family. Thank you for saving me, strange creature! You're my hero! So from this day and on, i respect my hero, for as long as i live :)

He's such a good guy! He already had some quails but he spent several HOURS looking every few MINUTES! Then when they hatch they're kind of slimy but he warms them with his breath!He is an absolute angel.

i have a sad story that's pretty disturbing so here's a caution.
when i was 9-10 i discovered two duckling eggs. my neighbor and I would check on it's progress, using a flashlight to see the duckling inside. her and I would frequently switch taking care of the eggs. one day her cousi came over and she had duty of the ducklings. her cousin smashed them with a hammer, mind that their were ALIVE ducks inside.

I thought if you help a chick hatch it will be too weak and end up dying.. But this bird didn't seem particularly weak once it came out.
Mitch A I helped my little Chicklet Pieps hatch yesterday afternoon, the mom had left the eggs and the other baby chickens had died in their eggs but she was peeping so loudly that I had to get her out of there. She is doing great now ☺
I feel like people telling you not to help struggling animals actually don't know anything and are just the ignorant "don't interfere with nature" types. You know, like the classic myth of not helping a baby bird back in its nest because its mother will reject it?

It's a old wives tale.
Chicks that stop hatching have one of a handful of problems.
They are simply stuck in the wrong position to hatch.
They could also be too big for their shell.
Shrink wrapped. (A condition where the chick pokes through the shell but the humidity drops and the membranes dry out and stick to the chick, effectively gluing him to the shell.)
OR
The chick piped in the wrong spot in the egg and drowned in the fluid.
The chick is deformed and will die no matter what.

Now they say never help a egg to hatch for 2 reasons
1.The membranes are lined with blood vessels and as the chick begins to hatch, will seal these vessels off.
2. The Chick is absorbing it's yolk.
Both of these take a bit of time and are the last thing to happen. so a chick can pip its shell and then chill for 20-30 hours if it has to, to absorb its yolk/ seal off the blood vessels.
if you help, you could tear vessels not yet sealed and the chick will bleed to death.
If the yolk is not absorbed, the thrashing chick trying to stand can rip it with his clawed feet, this will kill the chick.
Do not even help a chick to dry off. even a gentle touch with a paper towel or q-tip can rip open the still healing belly where the yolk was.
This is why, in the video, He said there is a small window. The yolk is absorbed, the vessels are sealed, but something is preventing the chick from hatching, this is the window where you can intervine.
My biology professor happens to breed chickens. He doesn't help chicks hatch as he had an incident where he helped a chick hatch and later bred it. Almost all of the eggs it laid had chicks too weak to crack the egg on its own, so he stopped breeding that hen and stopped helping with the hatching.
Thank God there are people who care about things like this little chicken. You are a great person and you have my full respect!

I lived on a huge property and kept chickens as pets. We had 4 Rhodesian ridgebacks needless to say they are all the chickens one night. except for one little chick which I nursed back to health and was an amazing pet followed me around and had personality. then one day I came home and the fucking builder let the dog into the chicken pen (yes I built a whole thing just for her) and ate her one of the saddest days of my life
