  • Ford Transit 350 Camper Van Conversion! Here is a quick video on how we converted our 15 passenger Ford Transit 350 into a camper / road trip vehicle for our family of five. Any comments or suggestions on how I can improve my interior would be greatly appreciated. Hope you enjoy!

    Idea for the exposed ceiling. Keep the look but cover the horizontal bars with wood to look like the wood of the floors.

      Great idea- I did want to insulate the ceiling but might do a combo; some sort of peel and stick insulation we can paint to hide, the dress up the horizontal bars like you mentioned. Thanks for the idea!

      Ya- I was going to try to tear them out or have them taken out but then thought it through a bit more and decided the family was better off with them vs the little extra space we would have had to work with if I had removed them.

    We are building a similar setup, but why keep those other two seats closest to the bed? A kitchen nook or something else could be there and you don't need more than 5 seats all the time. Could be a nook that comes in and out easy enough.

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  Před 2 lety

      If we didn't have 3 kids, we would certainly not need as many seats. On long drives sometimes its good for them to each have their own area. We haven't decided totally how to finish ours out yet, we use our van for traveling back and forth and hauling too.

    How’s yr van going now as your vid was last year. I would just need 3 seats n leave some space for kitchen n probably toilets. Beds could be bunk bed s. Anyway good luck on your built

      I hate to admit it, but I haven't done much more to the van since that video. I really need to finish building it out- we have just been using it as is... I am going to try to use your inquiry as motivation to get more done on the van!

    GREAT BUILD, BUT DON'T USE A PERMANANTLY MOUNTED LADDER ON THE OUTSIDE, RATHER A TELESCOPIC ONE THAT YOU STORE INSIDE, AND TAAKE IT OUT, WHEN NEEDED. I WANT TO START A BUILD ON THE TRANSIT. GREAT CHIUCE WITH BLACK RIMS BUT ALSO CHANGE THE RILL TO MATTE BLACK LIKE IN TRANSIT TRAIL. IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER. BY THE WAY COULD YOU HELP ME ABOUT THE WINDOWS? HOW INSULATED ARE THEY BOTH IN TERMS OF SOUND AND HEAT. IF I WOULD WANT TO USE AT NORTH, SHOULD I HAVE TO CHANGE THAM FOR SAME BETTER QUALITY ONES? AND HOW DARKEND ARE THEY? IF SOMONE LOOK IN THE WINDOW, CAN SEE IN THE INSIDE? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  Před 3 lety

      I definitely agree- I need to paint the grill black as well! The windows are ok for sound insulation- they are pretty dark as well but if someone gets close enough they can see in for sure. Good luck with your build!

      @@IslandsnHighlandsYEAH. THANKS. I found this on amazon for ladder solution. Try it, i think u will find it a better solution, and it's not expensive and you can us it elsewere too, and not worring about someone going up when you don't want to:

      By the way, do you think that roofrack can hold big payloads, for example i want to put a full house-like mini solar system on it do you think It's a great idea?

    Why do u have a partition wall next to bed. That area is wasted space. U can expand your bed or make some kitchen nook

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  Před rokem

      It’s funny you said that-we initially wanted it for a bathroom area but have since ripped out the wall to make it more functional. We were basing the design off a larger Winnebago that we liked the design. But the van was a bot smaller. It was handy for some things but we like it better without the wall

    Could I ask how much you spent replacing the brake pads on your Transit? Did you take it to an independent mechanic or a Ford dealer?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The last time we had the brakes done it was just at $1000 for the brakes, rotors, and misc supplies (independent mechanic)... Probably under $300 in parts - pays to do it yourself if you have the time / knowledge / tools...

    Hi Dude, can you help with the internal width at roof level?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  Před 11 měsíci +1

      We ripped out the inside of the roof out so our interior of the roof is the same as the top, no insulation
