How To Change Lawn Mower Oil (New Bobcat Lawn Mower Break In Oil Change)

The FX Kawasaki Engine makes engine oil changes very easy. We will perform the break-in oil/filter change on the new Bobcat ZS4000 mower. According to the user manual, should be done at 5 hours. We are at 11.3, so just a tad over. It won't hurt anything.
As far as I can guess, the break in oil change the manufacturer recommends (but not Kawasaki) might be to hedge bets in case some contaminant was introduced to the engine during assembly of the unit. I can't imagine the oil itself would need to be changed after 5 hours, so it must be because something might be IN the oil. Just my guess.

To perform an oil change on an FX Kawasaki engine, you need something to drain the oil into, new oil (20W-50 is preferred for the temperatures I run in), a new oil filter (I use some generic one you can see the model number of in the video), lots of rags, and if this is the FIRST oil change, you might need a filter wrench to get the oil filter off from the factory.

This video couldn't be more timely! It reminded me that I want to get something to collect the used oil when I change the oil on my riding mower. Currently using an old ice cream tub (plastic with lid) and wanted something a bit better for carrying it somewhere for recycling. Now I know what I want to get! :-)

I would NEVER change the oil and NOT the filter! If by chance there are contaminants of any sort left in the filter, they WILL be recycled through a used filter. ALWAYS change the filter.
That's just my opinion of course. I'm overly protective of things I own. Have a great day, ALL! Good video, Brother!

I couldn't figure out for the LIFE of me how to get the drain tube down. The stupid cover comes out with a thumb screw hidden underneath the framing on top...? Dang. Finally I can change this properly.

How do you like the bobcat mowers I have used a lot of mowers in my 11 years of lawn care and I have had my business for 5 years I love the wright mowers I have a 72 and a 36 but how does that bobcat compear to like wright or Scag or the all the other big dogs

I demoed a SCAG VRide 2 and preferred the Bobcat QuickCat to it. The ZS4000's are improved QuickCats so I have very high hopes for them.

The old Shiller Motors Bob-Cat for me.....not the new ones. My Bob-Cat Pro has rear oil change and filter, you can have the new ones. Will move on to Scag, Kubota, etc
