- One of the Lake Districts Premier Hotels, 4 miles outside Keswick in the Borrowdale Valley. We stopped one night, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast in a Prestige Room and I do a full review of the room, service, food and also a comparison to the sister 'Inn on the Lake Hotel', which we had previously stopped at last year.

That is so awesome! Thank you for the tour! I still have letters written in the 1800s from family in Cork County Ireland that they wrote to our family here in Ga. Before that family moved to Ireland they were originally from just North of there but south of Glasgow. So it's really cool to see all of those places where we came from. This is our home now but we still feel very much a kinship to you guys!

You probably will see some McTyre's around there or they may spell it differently but it's the same Klan. McTire McTeir and McTyre are all the same family.
I looked it up they were from Ballentrae Ayrshire Scotland. On the coast south of Glasgow but north of you. A fair piece away from where you are but close enough for me being this far away😊
So cool! It's great when you have a family history like that, so you can trace back where your family came from. Obviously we all feel that kinship with people in the US and its great that we can see some much of the US on CZcams. Tanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Well done Alan on a great review. It certainly helped to have that glamorous model strolling through the various areas. No dogs should EVER be allowed in hotels such as this one. £1000 a year dog license for all bloody dog owners! Weddings, another complete waste of money, just live together and enjoy life. Haha, thanks Mike and we were slightly worried about dogs being allowed but the room was spotless and a real nice fresh smell when we got in there. Just as we checked in, the weather turned real nasty with gale force winds and heavy rain, so is was nice to watch the weather from inside in front of an open fire. What a gorgeous setting this hotel is set in! And what lovely accommodations! Wow - built in 1866,... Amazing - so historical too! Thumbs up on the Metalman approval!
We both loved it, especially with it being so old, really gave me buzz, although, Mrs Metalman got a bit worried when the bathroom door kept blowing open and I said it was a ghost lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

This was a very nice hotel! It is hard to believe that it has 40 rooms by the size of it. It looks like you guys had some amazing meals there as well. It is very romantic for you and your wife. Thanks for sharing 👍

What a beautiful old building, inside & out. Plenty of character as well. Also a stunning location. We loved the log fires. Didn't you look all posh dressed up. Lol. Wow, what a beautiful room, and the building itself is beautiful inside and out. The view out the windows are gorgeous! You had what looked like a very delicious dessert, similar to bread pudding with raisins and rum sauce. I don’t know what it was 😋. Thank you for sharing Alan. God Bless!

Wow what a stunning room,such lovely views,and i love the sofa and the end of the bed,wow 40 rooms looks like a tardis tiny on the outside and massive on the inside .boy what a stunning place.i wouldnt eat pigeon,proberly eat a seagull thoo as they get on my nerves here so much,but the apple crumble is my fav afters,this is makeing me hungry watching this!!.Love winston churchill ,love the wallpaper map.This review was very well done,abit quite i had put tv volume really high.To me what makes a hotel is the staff,i have left hotels before if people are rude.this is yet another place for me to visit.Loved this all i would say maybe price? have a lovely weekend and stay safe debs.x i be away from the uk soon,so if not commenting,i will when get back x

Loved having a nosy around this hotel Alan! Really different enjoyable video😊👍. We have often driven past this hotel and have always wondered what it's like inside! We took Pete's mum for afternoon tea at the L'odore hotel up the road from this a couple of years ago, was so lovely, some really lovely hotels in that area. I must have driven past this hotel about 10 times and always wondered what it was like inside. Looked spot on in their mate, room was fantastic, didn't expect it to be as good as it was, this is my girlfriends favourite part of the lakes, some amazing hikes around that area, btw the wallpaper with the map was class. great review Al 👌

Nice review of a lovely looking hotel Alan. I'm impressed that Mrs Metalman let you film the room before opening the cases and unpacking :) I was interested in your comment about smelling dog. I never smell dog but maybe that's because we have one and I don't notice it so much. Or maybe because my sense of smell is hopeless :) Looking forward to warmer days ... best wishes, Rob
We both love dogs but Mrs Metalman has got a nose like a bloodhound and we have stopped in dog friendly rooms before where the room was great but you could smell doggie as soon as you went in. To be honest, it was real fresh when we went in to our room, so the cleaning and the service were both top notch, so we will be stopping here again. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Very honest review Alan. The place looks amazing I love the elegant and timeless decor...it looks very cozy with the fireplace. Also, don't get me started on that food it looked outstanding. Apple sorbet. Oh man oh man. And apple crumble. Yes. I'd definitely be in for a stay.

Yes, it is a lovely hotel. We go there most years pre Christmas plus go to the festive lunches. Staff have been there some time which helps. I like the "cubby holes" also. It is a bit more oldy worldly compared to the Inn on the Lake which we also enjoy. I agree I prefer this hotel especially on the quieter times.

Haha, yep, that was the only real problem, me being on a diet but had to bin it for the weekend, I was not missing out of that food, which was awesome by the way. @@AlanMETALMAN sometimes a diet can be just so inconvenient lol. That’s why I have a cheat day. It gives me a break from it for a day. If you’re too strict about dieting I think you’re more likely to give up on it. 👍

Hi Alan, thanks for the video, we have passed this hotel a few times on our travels and never been in so really nice to see what it is like. It looks really nice from what you have shown and you stretched the budget to get Mrs Metalman a lovely room which I am sure she appreciated. Food looked great and looked like you got more for your breakfast here than at the Inn on the Lake which I am sure pleased you. We have stopped at the Ladore Falls hotel up the road a couple of times for a drink and a sandwich at dinner time whilst out and about but blimey that place is expensive to stay. Interesting to hear that you would both prefer to stay at the Barrowdale again above the Inn, whilst the Inn's views at the back are stunning and hard to beat, we would prefer the smaller more personal hotel like you with several little places to sit and enjoy a drink together, a cosier affair to relax in. I think you have a bit of a thing going with these hotel reviews mate, really enjoyable so keep them up if you can. I think all us subscribers should all club together and send you both to one hotel a month and get a review from you, that would be FAB and I am sure Mrs Metalman would enjoy haha. I am sure Mrs Metalman would love to stop at a place like this every month and has already been hinting at a a return visit and a longer stay (ohhh my poor wallet) lol. Never stopped at the Ladore falls before but seen it is not that cheap and that is also part of the same chain of 6 hotels. I would say Mrs. Metalman like staying in these nice hotels, she was always smiling! I like hotels with lots of little spaces and nooks, too; it makes it so cozy. Will this hotel be a candidate for the next anniversary? Sounds like this one might just win out!
I totally agree, so nice to find a nice quiet corner with a book, especially as the weather was awful outside. Mrs Metalman was real real happy with this hotel and already hinting about a return visit! Good of you to stop by, cheers Alan
Thought I was watching Cliff Mitchelmore interesting video. I think a lot of the older hotels struggle with heating sometimes think they over look it because you can’t see it 👍👍

We have just extended our stay in June as we stay a week at Hillcroft in a lodge but we have just booked another 3 nights after the lodge at the Haweswater Hotel, looks very nice and reasonably priced, if you dont mind staying there and doing me a review 😀 I'm sure Mrs metal man will enjoy another stay 😀.
Did look at the inn on the lake but in June its quite expensive, thanks for the review and all the best.

Sounds like a nice stay you got booked but the Inn on the Lake is real expensive in peak times but over Winter and Spring, you can get a canny deal if you book direct on their website.
