    My dad had one of these in the 1950s and 60s when he was a boy, I looked and looked, I've found a model for him, but I showed him this video as well, it made him happy, thanks for this video

    It's so good to see these old Tri-ang models in like new condition. I have quite a lot but they are mostly well played with and beat up. I only have a tender and the caboose from the Davey Crockett set, both damaged but they are precious to me. Thanks as always Oscar. David.

      Glad you enjoyed seeing these models David. I think its great fun this locomotive with its coaches and caboose. The locomotive was a birthday present from my wife a couple years ago. Then the coaches turned up one at a time and very luckily last autumn I was offered the caboose. Makes me smile each time I see it run.

    The price of these are through the roof now. I might add I am extremally green with envy how all your trains just glide through points, no hesitating, faltering, just smoothy pass over them:

    Nice to see one in lovely condition and running smoothly. If I see any at train fares, they are often in need of further repairs etc.
    The caboose is a rare one, also in good condition.
    Regards, Cliff.

      Hi Cliff, I thinks these would have been well played with as toys back in the 60s They are just a great looking toys. Probably why there are so few of these items around today in good condition. They are not the strongest of Tri-angs models/toys!

    I sooooo wanted one of these when I was a kid (never did get one), but I don't understood why it was called "Davy Crockett". He was dead before railways even really took hold in America and so far as I know he had nothing to do with them anyway.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Před 7 lety

      It could have been called "Minnehaha" but the chaps at Tri-ang didn't think it would appeal to boys. Davy Crocket was in cinemas at the time so this is how it got its name! so we could blame Tri-ang or Walt Disney or both.
      Still a great looking toy.

    have you got a track plan of your layout? i can only piece together bits from shots.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Před 7 lety

      Thanks Ian I don't really have a track plan. But here is some information I gave to Antony Beaton a couple of weeks ago when he asked a similar question. The layout is based on track plan 9 from Hornby Railways 1976 book of plans. Plan 9 is for an 8x4 feet board. And I had 10x5 feet to play with. So I stretched it out to fit the larger size. This made the inclines more gentle and created more space in the central area. Once it was layed out it was clear that there was scope for a third circuit. So I took out the siding / engine shed area in the bottom left of plan 9 and put the super 4 track circuit in. Radius 1 at the right side and radius 2 at the left and found I had space for the turntable in the left hand area and sidings. The track geometry off the R.480U turntable dose not allow for the tracks to be parallel so track was cut to make this work! There are two crossovers at the station at the top of the layout. With converters from system 6 to super 4. And the there was space for three 4ft sidings at the top station. All of the super 4 track has has working catenary with the exception of the lead into and across the turntable and its sidings/engine sheds. 21 electrically operated points. Its possible to run it as three separate lines. But you need to keep a constant eye on the diamond crossing! So I generally use it as Two lines. So there are no real plans apart from plan 9 witch I cut up and pasted together to give me an idea of how much track was required. Then it just kept evolving, and still is! at the end of last summer I replaced just about all the nickel system 6 track with steel system 6 track. This has greatly improved the the running of my collection of locomotives with magnadhesion!
      Thanks for your interest and taking the the time to watch.

      Good morning Karl, I have only seen a picture of one on Dave McCarthys website www.tri-ang.co.uk/cabooseA.html and Pat Hammonds Book The Story of Rovex Vol 1 dose not mention one but does suggest that there may have been a CN version for the Canadian.
