A reason for so many cyclists on the ferry may be that you can no longer take your bike on a Eurostar. Not in any way. (its never been allowed in the carriages, but there's no longer a service for the bike to be shipped across, and the maximum dimension for luggage is now much smaller than a bike box). So UK cyclists wanting to to take a bike to the continent or people on the continent wanting to take a bike to the UK now only have three options: Flight, Car and Ferry or EuroTunnel, or just cycle and the ferry.
Indeed I was planning to go with the Eurostar from Amsterdam to London with my bike. The Dutch internal train travel website said to call to make a booking for biking, rather the it not being possible.
Also. The excuse mentioned on the Eurostar seems to mention Covid measures as a reason not to offer the service, but I thought we were past that by now… disappointing, I think it’s more that they just don’t really want to deal with the extra hassle of bikes.
@@ivarbrouwer197 Eurostar did say early in the year that they would announce a new bike service by "mid May". September is now the earliest date for an announcement. Truly crap service from a company supposedly supporting more sustainable travel...

Yes. It seems fairly clear that Eurostar has used Covid as a convenient excuse to kill off its bothersome bicycle service. From May to September. Oh, that's the summer. Eurostop.
It's a really rubbish service and is now apparently out until 'some time in May' but has yet to re-appear. Was always some bizarre sub-contracting arrangement and they appear to have had a fallout with their sub

I did the same thing but the other way round. Flew to Geneva and rode back to Bournemouth. It’s an amazing route. The climb over the mountain to Geneva is an epic road

Great stuff! I was laughing the entire last three minutes or so of the video. By the way, before you start complaining about the heat, consider it’s been 39C where I live in the US for the past week and will be for another week. Rides have been at 5am all week! 😄

Francis, I really like your videos. The topics you cover are great and alot of what you have on the channel is very useful and informative. Just wanted to say that so that you understand that this next bit is said as supportive, constructive feedback, not having a go. Please position the camera a little higher. At 26 and 41 seconds in, it feels like I'm looking up your nose. Just have your tripod or whatever a little higher and hold your arm up a bit higher as well. Otherwise enjoy your trip. Also it is a bit of a faf, but when doing a piece to camera it will look better if you change the FOV from wide to medium.
Poor Ben. He should have known better going on his first bikepacking trip with you guys that you'd find a way to stitch him up!! Well done you guys! Now we need photos like the traveling gnome everywhere you stop!!

If you're coming from Amsterdam riding to the south, Antwerp will probably be the first Belgian city you will pass when crossing the border. If you're planning to do a stop (which I would recommend), I'd be glad to show you guys around.

Not cycling related but i remember my first time hiking with my seniors as junior classmen. One seniot put 1kgs monkey wrench on my bag, one of my friend got his bag loaded with 4 bricks, and the funniest one got his bag stuffed with pot for plants (ofc w/o the plant). What makes it the funniest is he didnt realize about the pot until day 3 of the hike, in the middle of nowhere

Euro ferries are like a mini cruise without the bad entertainment. At some point Francis you will need to do a real tour on a mega loaded touring bike. Unless you have a tent and a cooker you're just perusing. 🤔😉
I kinda think Scott should have given you the Scott Addict endurance model instead of the Foil. A lot of times you’re using the Foil which is more of an aero bike as a bike packing bike for those long rides. It’s weird seeing so many bags and gear on an aero bike. But hey you gotta go with what you got :)
