    Hey Everyone, sorry this is a little bit delayed, our workstations have started to refuse to render using GPU acceleration so this render took over 11 hours! Any questions let us know here and enjoy!
    EDIT - I at 10:53 constant compression ratios should be 3:1, 5:1, 8:1 & 12:1.

      The footage you've shot with the 6K and 6K Pro are phenomenal and I love these long form videos to give potential users a good grasp of how things work on all the cameras you've reviewed. I would love to see your video of the ATEMs and how it works, especially for people who wants to dip their toes on some live streaming.

    Your decision to do this deep dive came at just the right time,....at least, for me. This is not just a review, but a real analysis. I've looked at numerous "reviews" of the BMPCC 6k Pro (Blackmagic is great with those catchy product names, ain't they?). Most range from irrelevant to...uh, more irrelevant, from the inane to the prosaic. None even approximate this. It's not just a review, it's a great reference I plan to consult many times (My new 6k pro arrives tomorrow). Internal NDs, tilty screen (Gott sei Dank that they didn't have the screen flip out!), With the tilt screen a lot of shooting that was difficult or just not doable is now going to be child's play---depending on the child, of course.
    Thank you SO much for doing this. It's really great...easily the equivalent of your S1H deep dive.
    Now, just one more thing and my work is done here:
    How about a video dedicated to how to set up the audio.
    I've got a 6k and have never been happy with the audio results. What to do? Blame the user! I'm sure my confusion is my fault.
    If I were in the UK I'd be ordering the BMPCC6K Pro from y'all for sure.
    So glad BMD just made a great camera much more usable rather than reinventing the wheel. Spare us, O Lord, from yet another accurséd cube!

  • @nathanwoodsheart
    @nathanwoodsheart Před 3 lety +3

    Thank you for the terrific review as always! I have a couple of questions and would love your help. (1) I look forward to the lab tests of the 6K Pro on the specifics of any color and/or other shifts from the IRNDs, and to hear if these changes are consistent across all units. I also look forward to the latitude test. On the latitude test, can you include the differences between both the general chroma noise and horizontal striping on the 6K and 6K Pro? I would love to know: a. Is there more frequent chroma noise on the 6K Pro? and b. Do the 'chroma noise stripes' on the 6K Pro behave differently than on the 6K? On my 6K Pro unit, I've noticed horizontal striping even with ND Clear at ISO 400, and read about unusual and uncharacteristic chroma noise, reported in other situations, for example, during backlighting. For the latitude test, I saw that out of all the cameras you've tested so far, only the Canon C300 Mark III did not have the appearance of those lines. Therefore, I recognize there may be some minor banding in the darker and more solidly colored areas of the image on occasion, but am curious if and how the 6K Pro, on average, is handling chroma noise and those lines any differently than the 6K, and to determine if the appearance on my unit is related to QC. (2) What is the flange focal depth shift, if any, on the 6K? I saw you recorded it starting at 60 microns for the ND Clear on the 6K Pro here, but I can't find the measurement for the 6K and was wondering if it was different.

    I love the new features they’ve added to the “pro” version. I still think it’s amazing that this camera has such a good variety of high quality internal codecs (Black Magic Raw and ProRes) at such a low price. As others have stated .. if some form of good autofocus was brought to this camera .. it would be amazing.

    Outstanding. One of, if not the best review video on the 6KPRO! Congratulations.
    I received the unit a week ago from B&H, and have to say it’s impressive. My only big issue (other than the NDs/tint, bluish LCD) is the internal fan noise/rattle. Can you comment on your observations?

      I’m with you... it’s a disappointment that they didn’t nail the nd/Ir cuts and I’m all for calling them out on it. Same with the monitor issues, the QC control and particles on the ND’s...
      That said. The Ir pollution is BARELY still there, not “mostly”... We’ve all seen the maroon soaked images of previous models... his hat doesn’t come close to that.
      Also, the slight Ir pollution, while annoying doesn’t “defeat the purpose” of internal ND’s. It means you still need to grab a low powered ir filter. This is still WAY better than having to have a matte box and separate filters or using a variable ND. Worth mentioning, this is an issue with the $6,000 Ursa mini G2 pro as well.
      By all means, BM please get your shit together, but just sayin’... I’ll throw an Ir cut filter on mine and get to work. I just hope they fix that screen and that I get a “better copy”.

    Crop factor was incorrectly counted!
    Kf = diagonal 35мм / matrix diagonal = 43,3/26,5 = 1,63
    23.10(squared ) + 12.99(squared) = 702,3501
    extract the square root 702,3501 = 26,5

      We didn't use diagonal to calculate crop factor, we used sensor width. This means aspect ratio can then change. Diagonal is more common for stills CF's, not so much for video & cine. However, if you matched aspect ratios between the formats you are wanting to compare, the maths will work out the same! Jake

    Thanks for the review, I did however not really understand the backfocus issue you mentioned with the ND-filter. Do you mean that the glass that the filters introduce breaks the light slightly differently so that the infinity focus on some lenses can be affected? Or does this only apply to zoom lenses?

    • @yuan-jia
      @yuan-jia Před 2 lety

      Backfocus is as important as front focus, the two go hand in hand actually, as when you focus to one meter the lens should backfocus relatively to the flange distance so that the sensor sees what’s 1m away as in focus. But glass in front of the sensor and not « from » the lens might introduce some shift in this backfocus thus breaking the relationship between front and back focus. This is hence valid for any lens, prime or zoom, parfocal or not :)

    Hey there! Looking for a camera to do small client work with and have the option to do some more professional work. Stuck between bmpcc 6k Pro and A7sIII. I understand bmpcc6k Pro has amazing image and colour, but how close is it really?? Because the advantages of IBIS, autofocus, battery life and a smaller footprint of the A7sIII are big ones for run and gun, as I work on a gimbal a lot. Internal ND's are a big help in the 6K Pro as well! Already have an A7III and a 28-70 f2.8 for the sony, but the would need to buy Davinci studio, and on the flip side, the 28-70 f2.8 EF Sigma art lens for the 6k Pro. Cannot Decide!

    Does the 6K Pro output 4K from the HDMI? I was very disappointed that the 6K doesn't and no one ever advertised on mentioned that before I purchased it.

    Also i wanted to say this,
    Its a bit weird seeing to different companies come out with a new camera with the same sensor as their old camera but with a 'pro' body and some new features.
    Im talking about the fx3 and pocket 6k pro.

    • @antonybui9257

      Why is this sus? A new sensor would be great, but internal NDs, an EVF, a tiltable screen, etc are also extremely useful and worth a purchase.

    I am an actor and have regular self tape auditions. I wanted to grab this camera for self taping, shorts/skits, possible features and taking photos/headshots. I know that the still capture functionality on this camera isn’t the best, but I was wondering if it would make do for professional headshots? Also I know that the autofocus isn’t the greatest, do you think there would be an issue of dropping focus during self tapes?
    I was debating between this camera and the canon r5. Which do you think would fit my needs better keeping in mind the video will be my main focus?

    • @DineshBhadwal
      @DineshBhadwal Před 3 lety

      Blackmagic cameras are for narrative filmmaking and need a pro cinematographer behind the camera. Always. The autofocus is non-existent. The canon is a good choice but overheats whether you record internally or externally. For your requirment, the Sony's are the best. Right now you can grab a A7iii on a big discount.

    So
    I'm not dedicated to any one system right now and looking to get into a video kit. Short films, video portraits, some commercial work.
    I'm a little dazed by all of the options available at this price point (6k Pro, Z Cam E2-F6, Sony FX3, etc) and I'm struggling to make a decision on a kit I can grow with for the next few years.
    If the 6K Pro isn't one that fits my use case, what would be?

    • @CVPTV
      @CVPTV  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey UmDot, There are SO many options at this price point, it really is a bit of a mind field! What kind of work do you normally shoot? Do you own any lenses or acc's already? What budget do you have? Thanks, Jake

      @@CVPTV Hi!
      I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
      Right now I photograph on a Fuji system, and have nothing specific to video. There are a few options to stay in the Fuji ecosystem, but I don't see it (right now anyways) as a system I want to stay with for dedicated video work.
      As far as what I plan to shoot - Short films, some commercial work and digital content, possible documentary work at some point.
      From what I've gathered - the 6K Pro or a similarly priced body from Z Cam seem to fit the bill, but I can't ignore the convenience of hybrids with strong AF.

    • @CVPTV
      @CVPTV  Před 2 lety +1

      No worries! Ahh ok. The 6K Pro offers excellent bang for buck. The Z CAM systems are great too but will require some rigging and optional accessories to get it to a similar point to the 6K Pro. I would say the S6 and P6K Pro are pretty close image quality wise but the F6 is a stepup. Both systems have poor AF, if you want good AF I would look at the Sony a7 IV or FX3, but thats a different price point. Let me know if you have anymore questions! Jake

    • @SneekeeMonkee
      @SneekeeMonkee Před 2 lety

      @@CVPTV Wow!
      Again, greatly appreciate the reply.
      AF Isn't a huge deal for me for the work I'd like to do, and from what I've read into - a Super 35 sensor like the 6k Pro or E2-S6 looks like it has more glass options for it.
      So realistically...
      6k Pro - More usable out of the box
      S6 - Needs rigging, but seems to be more flexible due to it's smaller form factor (gimbal, etc)
      It really seems to come down to work flow and what codec/file format you want to work with?
