I have a Samsung Android Smartphone with the Phonak Tap Control feature and in sync with Google Assistant.
I especially like the feature where I can receive and make phones calls while driving.
However, I receive text messages and do not want to check them out while driving.
Now I know I can send text messages using the Tap Control with Google Assistant, but I was wondering if there is a hidden gem where I can tap and have Google Assistant or another app read a received text message to me?
Does anybody have any experience with this?

Hello. You would need to contact Samsung to see if this is a feature on your phone. The Bluetooth in your hearing aid is simply allowing any sound from your phone to stream to your hearing aids. Thank you

My audiology said I could set up the tap control on my Phonak app, but I can't find a setting for that anywhere.

Hello. If you have a Phonak Paradise or Lumity rechargeable hearing aid from the 70 or 90 technology levels, you can select the tap on feature through the myPhonak app. Please make sure you have updated the app. Go to Device Options at the bottom of the main app screen then select ON for tap on feature. The tap on feature is not available with the 30 and 50 levels or with Marvel generation of hearing aids.

The feature is on your Phonak app and I was able to do this on my own. Just work through the app features and you should be able to come to it and disable it.

I find tap control a mixed bag. It doesn't seem totally consistent. Some times I have to whack myself fairly hard to get it to function. And I'm never quite certain it worked. Nice idea, but appears it still needs some work.

The tap control feature may be affected by glasses and size/shape of the ear, however, reliability has improved with new software updates so I suggest you ensure your audiologist has updated your hearing aids. My clients have received more success with their latest hearing aid platform, Lumity. If all else fails, you can use the volume button on the hearing aid to answer, reject and end calls.

i just got them and i am very impressed, the tap is cooler than cool, and the audio is blown away for a hearing aid @@AudioLogicHearing

I cannot stand it! I am a Boomer so that might be the problem, but every time I am on the phone talking to someone, if I yawn too wide or even touch the top of my head, the tap control disconnects the call. I have to stand there or lay down like a corpse with my hands under my butt to make sure I don't accidently set off the tap control and end an ongoing call. HOW CAN I TURN THIS STUPID FEATURE OFF?????

This is an easy fix. Your audiologist will be able to turn off the tap feature in the software. You will still be able to answer phone calls using the button on the hearing aid.

Interesting. My experience is just the opposite. I have to whack myself pretty firmly to get it to function. Sometimes, in public, I suspect people think I'm disturbed or potentially violent.

I finally turned that feature off mine as well. Mine would connect with Siri when I chewed. I would be eating and constantly connecting with Siri wanting to know what I wanted or reacting to something it heard me say. Great idea but not great in functionality at this point.

@@bobbyelliott1117 Your audiologist can deactivate the voice assist feature in the fitting software and keep the direct streaming of calls active, which will be answered via the button on your hearing aid or on your phone.

Partially deaf people like me, even with hearing aids, find it difficult to hear your commentary with the obtrusive background music. You, of all people, should know this.
