    Your blocks at 2:03 inspired me to get Lego out and this worked a treat with my 5 year old. It made a real breakthrough as we had been using number lines with a lot of frustration.

    Thank you for the video! With covid I last minute decided to homeschool my kids and my one son is in kindergarten. He is delayed and I really want to help him learn these concepts well. I'll check out the links you posted.

    Thank you Susan, this was really helpful. With a child that has gdd and home learning as we deal with covid, I struggled with the hands-on teaching. This has answered a lot of questions on technique.

      Kan j: In homeschooling there’s no such thing as gdd. No child should be compared with other children. We all learn differently.

      That is the best video I have seen on decomposing. It is long but so worth it. I use her movie theater idea throughout the year and my kiddos love it. I also use her 5 little ducks (and change the number sometimes) song with cubes. My students really grasp the concept of decomposing and can independently do the worksheets by end of year.

    I teach this way but I'm getting a bit nervous as I've been seeing how their teaching kids to not count like this and to learn patterns and placement values to quickly come up with the sum amount.

    y LOVED this activity czcams.com/video/PSN7WhTrGxY/video.html .......... BUT i t think that using a BLUE 6 in the upper right corner may be misleading...also the RED 6 after the "=" that is written in crayon...i mean, for total sum i think i should use black, or any color different from blue or red

    Hi, you said free print & play addition games but there are all need to pay. Please don't lead us the wrong way when our salary is less to purchase all these right😅. Please tell us if there are free print copies. It's okay if doesn't have. Thanks.

    Be careful with the word equal in kindergaten. In the examples given, students will associate equals with "is the answer." A better habit is to say "is the same as" or "makes a total of."

      I'm unsure about this. It's called an equal sign... why teach anything else?

      @veniqer Před 2 lety +4

      It's an equation. Equations should balance. So each side should equal the other side.
