We charge our Powerwall2 with our Kubota 1100 diesel generator. Unfortunately the maximum that the Powerwall accepts is 1.7kw although the generator can operate at over 9kw with a 11kw surge.
From what I've read you'd need to re-provision your powerwalls and limit the max charge from grid speed to stay under the max running amps of your generator. After that (from what I've read) you may or may not get the powerwalls to charge based upon the quality of power that the generator outputs. I think you'd also need to have your transfer switch between the main disconnect and your backup gateway so that the system thinks the grid is up. This will all also void your warranty.
Wonder if you can set the powerwalls to only pull 50amps at 240v from the generator, similar to how you can set how many amp you are pulling when charging a Tesla on the app.
I've been waiting for someone to try! But hey at least the generator can still run the house if needed! . Where does the generator hook into. Going into house breaker box or subpanel?

@Miss Vi one powerwall only pulls 5000w max charging. Is your generator wired to your panel? I think it would need to add the power from the solar input side so that the powerwall knows how to charge from it. This is just a theory. If the Genny is on the output side you might be getting some sort of feedback making the Genny overload. Just theories.
