Trump urges Americans to 'stand united' after assassination attempt | DW News

- Former US President Donald Trump has told Americans they need to "stand united," after he was shot and injured at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the incident that it has called an assassination attempt.
Trump was in the town of Butler, Pennsylvania, addressing a crowd at an open-air rally, when gunshots rang out. The Secret Service says the shooter opened fire from the roof of a nearby building. The suspect was less than 150 meters from the stage, on which Trump was speaking.
One spectator was killed, with two others critically injured. The suspected shooter was shot dead as well.

Today it’s victim blaming by these guests. No accountability for everyone saying he is an existential threat. People saying he must be stopped by any means. As a Pennsylvania resident it should be stated that it is not surprising he was a registered Republican due to our state having closed primaries. I live in Philadelphia which always goes Democrat in order to participate in local politics you have to register Democrat to have any say. Butler is a red district so anyone who cares about politics is likely a registered Republican regardless of who they actually vote for.
Bethel Park is in Allegheny county, which is democratic leaning. I live a couple miles away

MOST reporters are using this as a golden opportunity to hopefully unite both camps, using conciliatory tones in their interviews in the hope that this may cause a turning point between the 2 sides and things might just become more civil, with a bit more mutual respect.
