    • @LucyLucky7580

It's to avoid significant escalation - striking deep into Russia with western weapons would bolster the narrative that the west is "using" Ukraine to attack Russia.
That will gain massive support from the Russian public, putting Russia in a more active war state - it may then lead to mobilising the entire population, things like officially declaring war, introduction of martial law, several rounds of mobilization raising millions of soldiers.
For now, it seems like Russia is only focused on capturing the Donbass and trying to shield its own population from the war as much as possible, that could however change if they officially declared war - with their advantage in manpower and production Ukraine wouldn't be able to resist that full might given its smaller population.

It appears to developed nations that appealing to personal gain of the elite at the expense of their people is winning for China and Russia. Africa has so much potential to help itself but it's people are voting with their feet and fleeing in the face of pointless wars and economic gain. Few dictators in Africa have their people's intests at heart; it's easier to call our leaders to account in democracies, howver imperfect they are.
