It's so hard to describe those experiences. You, unsurprisingly, describe it as well as I've heard it explained. I feel humans spend many lifetimes trying to find this stillness. It's almost impossible in today's world when technology is outpacing our minds' ability to adjust to it. I'm happy you have begun the journey. Hoping for more stillness in the months to come! 🤘🕓
So great you’re on trail again. I’m in Dunsmuir on my trek north on PCT I just saw your #4 video notification , so I had to check your prologue and #1 first of course. You do such great work covering the experience of thru hiking these trails. Good luck & god speed. The snow is nuts here too! Thanks for the videos!
I’m so happy for you that you’re out there on the PCT! I know the snow is even worse there than here, but the trail will help you find a way. It’s such an amazing trail - enjoy every minute of it!
Yep . . . that's what it feels like. Each hiker, some sooner rather than later but usually all of us get to this point where we connect with creation, something bigger than us, and we are a part of it.
Peace: feeling like everything is as it should be. ❤ that moment you shared under & almost among the stars. Your videos always include the spiritual connections that make it so much more than another hike.
I agree with ER's comment -- it is no surprise to hear Spielberg doing again what he is so great at. He gets it, and can tell it. It's awesome to hear and see this adventure begin.
Started my day with you once again taking us all along on your amazing journey! Thank you! For the breathtaking vistas, for your inspirational narrative, for your willingness to film your journey so the rest of us might experience a little bit of it with you! Stay safe my dear friend. ♥
Nice to see you back on trail 😁 I still remember watching you on the AT and so many of the stories you told and can still visualize lots of the footage. I still remember all those spider webs for example. I think it was approaching Virginia but could be wrong on that part. Happy trails, we’ll be with you in spirit.
So glad to have you following in this trail, too. Great memory! I totally forgot about all those spider webs that morning on the AT - I think you’re right that it was in Virginia.
Videography is one thing but your story telling is a gift. I probably won’t comment on each video because I am viewing you on my big screen. It’s like almost a sense of being with you. Wow
Thanks for sharing with us the start of another epic journey. Those wide open vistas just look so appealing. Great filming as ever and great to see you cowboy camping. Thanks Craig - Bon Voyage!😊
This is GREAT. Will be rooting you along as always. Stay safe and heathy. I failed at three tries at doing an AT Thru. Tough at 71. Issues with my right foot and a pretty bad fall hurting my knee and ankle. You will be the highlight of my evenings.
So good to see you out there again. Your videos calm me almost as much as thru hiking itself 😅. HotBuns and I are looking at 2025 for the PCT. So excited. Great video, we are looking forward to following your journey.
Wow how exciting Spielberg going for the triple crown!!! I’m hoping to do the Colorado trail later this summer so will be sharing a portion of the CTD with you. Another great video so glad to see you back out on trail!!!
Another beautifully shot video.. I am very much looking forward to many more of these. My one concern though is there is some hiker in your shots who is wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a CDT ball cap that looks a bit shady ;) Have fun out there!
I think over again my small adventures, My fears, Those small ones that seemed so big, For all the vital things I had to get and to reach; And yet there is only one great thing, The only thing, To live to see the great day that dawns And the light that fills the world. --- Inuit Quote The desolation of the desert is filled with wonder and mystery. Opening yourself up to reveal your true self and shed layers like snake skin or shed your exo skeleton like a crab inside you will find your self, the shining light a beacon of life. The mountains, chapparal, flowers, and sand every grain of sand are interconnected in this ecology, in this human ecology.
I wear Rail Rider pants when I hike and love them. They’re made for hikers, and are the best pants I’ve ever hiked in. I don’t have a gear video for this trail, but will be compiling one once I finish the trail.
I am seriously considering abandoning my wife, job, my life in general, hopping a greyhound, and going to one of the three American trails, maybe the CDT. Once there, I'll survive for a while, until I decide I don't want to live anymore. Then I'll simply die in some extremely remote place.
I’ve worried about cowboy camping in the past, and still do occasionally, but I’ve never been bothered by any animal, nor has anyone I know… and a lot of people cowboy camp. Animals really don’t want anything to do with humans, so they stay away, unless they are addled, starving, or protecting their young. Mice, however, have been known to get close, particularly on the Appalachian Trail.
I still like zPacks for when I’m light, but they’re definitely not as good when you’re carrying over 20-25lbs, which I have to do out here with the long food and water carries

Agreed ER
Thanks ER! Wasn’t certain I was articulating the feeling accurately - so glad it worked. Any hiking plans for you this spring/summer?
@craig.m.spielberg still debating the trail...Sheltowee Trace? AZT? Oregon Coast? Can't decide yet...
I haven’t heard of the Sheltowee Trail - going to have to look into that one. Whichever one you pick, I’m looking forward to seeing it on your vlog!
Such a great thing to start the day with, a thruhike contemplative video. Thanks Craig, a beautiful begining!
Thank you for vlogging this adventure. Will be hitch hiking along with you.
Happy Trails! Wishing you lot's of trail magic from many trail angels.
Thanks Susan!

Finally. A philosopher. It sheds light on the real purpose of a long hike instead of the rat race from point to point it now is.
Loved how you camped near Pyramid Peak which makes a great backdrop.
Great start! The desert is pretty but harsh! Happy Hiking!!

Thanks Michele! I’m so glad you like those spiritual moments - they mean a lot to me.

Great starting video to your trek. Very cool metaphysical experience in the desert #WhatWouldAlanWattsSay
Thanks Papi! Looking forward to seeing you in CO
So great to get back on the trail again with you! Amazing video. Good luck. 👍✌️😎😃
You are on your way. So beautiful as you pointed out. One has to be in the moment. God speed C.S.
Yeah, you are back on the trail 👏👏👏. After watching you AT & PCT videos, I can’t wait to watch you hike CDT and become a triple crowner 👑 👑 👑
This is GREAT. Will be rooting you along as always. Stay safe and heathy. I failed at three tries at doing an AT Thru. Tough at 71. Issues with my right foot and a pretty bad fall hurting my knee and ankle. You will be the highlight of my evenings.
Thanks Kirk - so glad to have you along for this hike, too!

So proud ❤
Thankyou so much for sharing your journey with us!
Beautiful video as always!
Breathtaking!

Hey Stan! That would be so cool if we got to hike a little of CO together. I’ll be on the lookout for you!
I am very glad for you

That dude in the blue hoodie is always photo bombing my videos 😂
So many emotions…embrace them all… 😊

Beautiful! Love the metaphor of the snake shedding its skin, the crab shedding its shell. Thanks AG!
@@craig.m.spielberg stay strong. We are following and supporting.
So you noticed . . . It. Where did it come from? (Nice video n narration). Thanks.
Thanks! I’m not certain what you’re referring to with “It”?
Nice video. Any idea what kind of bird eggs those were?
I believe the eggs were of a bird called the cactus wren.
Gear question. What brand of pants are you wearing? Also, do you have a video about what gear you carry?
I wear Rail Rider pants when I hike and love them. They’re made for hikers, and are the best pants I’ve ever hiked in.

I hope you don’t. Definitely get out to one of the trails if you can and start hiking - it will renew your faith in life and people.
is it safe to sleep in the wild, how do you deal with wild animals at night, is there special measures, or is it safe? i really want to know

Glad to see you switched up your packs. Zpacks backpacks are absolute shit.
