  • Odiva, vilaiyadi vaa, in Ragam Desh, is a composition of Smt. Nirmala Nagarajan. Set on Udupi Krishna, the Padam talks of Lord Krishna as a child - his mischief, his playfulness with the gopikas, and the wonderful melody of his flute. The animals and birds in the forest are mesmerized by the sweetness and come from all over just to revel in divine tune.
But even in his childhood, in all playfulness, Krishna shows glimpses of his true nature - the sanchari begins by showing Yashoda’s anger when she finds him eating and relishing the taste of mud. Krishna pretends to cry and opens his mouth to prove his innocence. Yashoda sees the entire universe in is mouthful of sand, and stands stock still when she sees herself in that universe, scolding Krishna for having eaten mud. In the transport of ecstasy, she hugs him, unable to believe the miracle that is her little boy.
The piece concludes with the dancer worshipping Balakrishna at Udupi, just as Kanakadasa did, through the nine small holes in the window of the temple.
