2023 Global Leadership Award Honoring European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

The Chicago Council on Global Affairs honored European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the 2023 Global Leadership Awards Dinner for her extraordinary leadership and commitment to creating a more open and promising world for all.
In acceptance remarks delivered via video, von der Leyen explained how Europe and the United States are joining forces and building global coalitions for collective action on critical global issues. “This is the great power of the transatlantic partnership,” she said. “Together we can deliver prosperity for our people and progress for the world.”
Since becoming President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen has managed multiple crises - Brexit, Covid, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, China’s economic coercion - with pragmatic excellence, steadfastly reinforcing freedom and democracy as the founding principles of the European project.
