You don’t event know how your instructions helped me. I’m really appreciate you. Lord please save this man.
I'm so glad I could help you!
I found you through the suggested videos, Your videos are awesome. Tnx
Thank you for the comment!
Thank you very much for the detailed instructions!
You're very welcome!
great video, you really helped me out thank you
Happy to help 😊
Very nice and detailed video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello! I found the video very usefull for disassembling the xps 15! Do you know, if the keyboard, touchpad and palmrest assembly is the same on the 9510 and the 9500? I need to replace it and I can only find a replacement part for 9500...for 9510 I cannot find anything...
All parts on XPS 15 95xx except the heat sink are completely identical.
Thank you for the instructions! I used it to replace the keyboard on one of our laptops. In case anyone is wondering: The keyboard is welded using bits of plastic. To remove the keyboard I pushed it with force to the inside against the welds, eventually got it free. The new one is glued in place with bits of super glue to replace the welds. I recommend using a glue that is viscous, to prevent it from leaking. The part of the motherboard that is over the keyboard is exposed and the replacement keyboard was not isolated, so I glued a piece of adhesive over it to prevent shorts.
Good job!
Hi which sell did you replace keyboard
actually it really looks like a great project it has 50m cap
Is the left side the way the lettering is facing on the back trying to make sure I got the right fan assembly
Those fan can be installed only to the correct side and there's no way you can install them to the wrong side.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Many thanks for the instructions. However, on my XPS 9500 it was impossible to start from the corner as recommended. Even with a tool the size of a razor blade, I could not open the very tight connection there. Eventually I was able to (carefully) start from the hinges. It took me 30 minutes to remove the cover, a "nightmare".
I'm happy to help! My instructions were based on the Dell service manual. I've opened dozens of those models in my repair shop, and some of them are very easy to open, while others are quite tight. It could be due to different revisions of some parts with varying tolerances.
great video, one of my fans has died and I am replacing it this weekend! Question, do you need thermal paste on the heat sink when I reattach it?
No! You don't even need to remove the heatsink to replace the fan. Simply unscrew the fan, replace it, and put everything back together. If you're not confident in your skills, disconnect the battery. Otherwise, a dropped screw on the board with the connected battery can be fatal to that motherboard.
Sorry, regarding the bottom case screws, how much do I have to tighten them?
Don't overtighten the screws. When you feel resistance, stop immediately, otherwise, you risk stripping the thread.
So I am trying to install upgraded RAM and sure enough 1 of those 8 screws has become striped (its a corner one on the front 'lip'). I am going to try to place either a rubber band, small cloth, or electrical tap between the screw head and my tool so see if I can get it out. wish me luck.
I hope you'll make it work.
Ok so its been 2 months. What I had to do was use a 1/16th drill bit to drill out the tiny TX5 screw. Make sure the measure the length of the other TX5 screws and mark your drill bit accordingly (I wrapped blue painters tape around the drill bit that was longer). After drilling out the split screw I was able to pop off the chassis like you did here.
I think Dell XPS 9520 have a BIOS setting that will detect hardware changes and may require your BitLocker key if you have that enabled on your system.
Can you remove the usb c port ? mine is completely loose and doesn't stick so I need a new port
On the right side of the laptop, there's a small PSB module with USB ports that can be easily replaced. However, on the left side, it's not as straightforward since they are soldered to the motherboard. Nevertheless, any repair shop should be able to handle it; it's a pretty basic repair.
If I spilled water in my 9520, but shut it down shortly there after, should I disconnect the main battery, drain any electricity, then connect the battery and restart the computer?
Yes, you have to disconnect the battery as quickly as possible and dry your laptop. If you see some residue on the motherboard, clean it with rubbing alcohol. In most cases, the keyboard doesn't survive liquid damage.
Where the CMOS battery located in this laptop?
It's the main battery itself in this laptop.
will it make it difficult to repair?
@@PMRony If you want to reset the BIOS then simply unplug the battery and leave it for a couple of minutes.
Is there a cmos battery?
No, the BIOS is powered by the main battery.
Hi, I just followed your tutorial to clean my laptop, and it was so helpful! I did run into an issue, I noticed my trackpad and keyboard are not functioning after reassembly, what do you suggest I do?
Check the connectors, that's the only place where something could go wrong. If it doesn't help, then try to reset the BIOS.
@@ElectronicsComputers Should i just try disassembling again and then reassembling? And do I need to look at any specific connectors? That’s what i was thinking of doing. I’m not well versed in this so I’m asking so many questions sorry☹️
@yearthy2529 Just reconnect those two connectors that you see on the bottom right side. Maybe you didn't plug them all the way in.
@@ElectronicsComputers I fixed it! Reconnecting the connector was the only thing I had to do, and I just had to restart one time after rebooting my laptop. Thank you so much!
@@yearthy2529 Great job 👍 . I'm happy to help.
Hmn... Still don't understand where's a CMOS battery location?
The CMOS is powered by the main battery.
@@ElectronicsComputers thank you
@@ElectronicsComputers Sorry to piggy back on this, but you are saying that when you remove the main battery, it automatically resets the cmos battery too?
@@Ajvkorn89 There is no CMOS battery in most modern laptops with built-in batteries. A large lithium-ion battery, provides power to the CMOS chip. Therefore, if you disconnect the main battery, the CMOS settings may be reset.
@@ElectronicsComputers thanks man. Was going crazy trying to find it cause the fan is extremely loud. Already replaced it, reset bios, nothing works. Immediately turns on high when you start the laptop. This least lets me know not to focus on the cmos resetting the settings. Appreciate ya!
