Trey Gowdy Is Counting Down The Number Of Flights He Has Left Until He Can Leave D.C. For Good (HBO)

  • South Carolina Republican Trey Gowdy is retiring from Congress an unhappy man. He's even counting the number of trips to the airport he has left until he can leave DC for good.
"[T]o the extent men judge themselves based on what they do for a living, I don't have a lot to show for the last seven years," the departing Congressman told VICE News.
Among the most prominent members to be elected as part of the Tea Party wave in 2010, Gowdy gained national notoriety as a fiercely partisan interrogator of Hillary Clinton following the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.
He said he doesn't relish the reputation, or think it's justified. And it's helped drive him out of Congress.
But at least he made some friends along the way.

@@kristianfussell9153 do you all know the main reason rome fell? Ill tell you: the state became so corrupt and chaotic that nothing could be done, the whole economy was in the hands of a few. The same people who controlled the state. Until they were brought down. No italians would serve in roman armies anymore, the armies were filled with outsiders and germanics. Then rome split in two. The east unshackled itself from the corrupt and dying west. And survived for another thousand years. The east made reforms and decentralized the state. The main power was in constantinople. But vassals would rule communes or provinces. Much like early roman republic/empire. They made changes, they removed a super corrupt sentralized state like a cancer in a body. This all worked really well for around 400 years. Then mongols, turks, arabs came rushing at Constantinople. They fought a loosing battle for 300 years. Finally they got help from european nations. Crusaders. Letting them in to constantinople. What happened is one of the biggest betrayals in history.

He can give pointers on how other representatives can deliver what sane Americans want from the federal government (screaming hate-filled libs are not sane). And I don't mean popular in the sense of "liked"... I mean in the sense of "known at all". It's sad and unfortunate that low-lifers like Trump, Bush, Clinton, LBJ, Nixon get pushed by media and are "made" presidents. The last good men who were president are Reagan, Eisenhower and Kennedy. Obama was "ok" but he also was someone who didn't really have the "power" to change stuff. He was controlled / held in place by the establishment.

I've never seen Gowdy as super-partisan on party lines, more so on individual ideological ones. For instance he hasn't really kept the line of being against marijuana, infact he has even criticized its scheduling. Along with alot of other stuff that doesn't really fit the Republican agenda.

    • @chippychin

This is a true loss for the American people. One of the most decent, honorable people to ever serve in Congress and a man who I personally think would make a fantastic president. I don't know where the description of Trey as "hyper partisan" comes from, imo he has always been led by his conscious, not political affiliation.

It’s hard for a truly fair honest person to be in politics. One who thinks out loud weighing all the possibilities. I feel in my heart that Mr Gowdy is just such a person. Thank you for your common sense approach to the issues. Something you find no joy in doing and yet you gave your all for America. Thank you.
